New “Top Thrill Dragster” Train: Build & Design of the LIGHTNING by Zamperla

We briefly chat with Jay Crisler about the design, construction, and build of the lightning train. From the chassis and LSM's underneath, to the bogies, wheels, and seat design to make one of the more comfortable roller coaster seats that I've sat in! The trains are to be used for Top Thrill 2 at Cedar Point - the top thrill dragster makeover coming in 2024.

Learn more about the new ZAMPERLA LIGHTNING TRAIN design. The Lightning Train is Zamperla's first LSM roller coaster, it is coming to Vancouver Canada in 2024, and it has a new seat design, chassis design, and is LSM equipped.
The chassis components are all aluminum and the train is very maintenance-friendly and one of the main ideas behind the design. Bolted connections, plenty of working space, and the same thought process on the bogies, which remain steel. Very easy to work on and replace any parts that need replacing.

The modularity aspect of these trains is super neat! I wonder what modifications they would make to the them if they were to be hitting speeds of, idk, 120 mph? Lol but seriously, these trains look badass, and the whole time watching this I was just thinking, holy cow Zamperla has come a long way in the past few years. Very reminiscent of the modern Vekoma Renaissance

All trains on modern thrill coasters can. Hell, OG Arrow trains can handle some insane Gs

doesn't look like it does, nor do RMC or Preimer seats. never been on a preimer ride, but those seats look tiny and RMCs are not larger people friendly

I love how small all of the bolts are. Not a fan, wont be long till one of these blows into pieces sending guest flying across the midway
