Sweet. Interested in following the build. Considering building one myself. Live in upstate NY. For the most part I can get around with my ole Honda 300 4x4. But occasionally it won't get thru it on bigger snow storms. Building one of these would help blaze a trail and after a day or two of freeze/settling could use the Honda again.

Totally worth building one. It has its own time and place but will quickly be a favorite next to your fourtrax I can guarantee that

Really nice - like your attention to detail. Have a 440 sitting out in the yard which I am going to dismember and start my build. Interesting to decide whether to build the frame from scratch, or to use the sled frame etc. Also agree with your idea of building a riding tow unit behind. Saw a nice one a while ago that also served as a packer for FatBike trails. Double duty. Either way, super appreciate your time etc in documenting this so we can ride on your coat tails. Cheers.

Thanks for your comment, I’d recommend using the sled you have and as much as you can from it. Best part is you can always sell it to finance your full frame build if that it something you want. And learn what to do and what not to do. Hopefully can keep the videos rolling on what I like building thanks!

@@TRoutdoors2021 Hey TR - I’m back and building! Have decided to go full frame like yours, too many compromises with using the sled. It just was going to be too much work to make it work. That being said, building the frame presents other challenges. Makes me appreciate your workmanship even more. Couple of questions if you don’t mind. What’s the distance between top tube, and bottom? Looks like 2-2.5 inches? You used 2 x 1/8 plate to make suspension point attachments? That length looks like 4 - 4.5 inches?

@@TRoutdoors2021very nice video and I love your design! Do you know the weight difference between build your own frame vs use a short track sled frame? I want build one as light as possible. Also, would be great if you have another video to show how to build a frame and install boggie wheel etc. Thanks!

Like it! Did you use shoulder screws, long bolts, standoffs or spacers between the fabricated frame and sled?
@TRoutdoors2021 Жыл бұрын
Just used welded tabs on the frame that come down and bolted using the factory spots on the skid on four spots. Hope that answers your question?
@258power Жыл бұрын
Awesome build. What kind of speeds do you get with a 6.5? I have a Honda 13hp I was going to use but the 40 series torque converters are super expensive. So I’m considering selling it and buying a 6.5.
@TRoutdoors2021 Жыл бұрын
My last 6.5 build from a snowmobile went about 15-18 but I changed the gearing a bit on this one to hopefully go a little slower and have more torque

Thanks for sharing your build. I’ve been preparing to make one myself and will pull the trigger soon. I do have a question about the tensioner on the final drive. Is it on the correct side? By the i mean, shouldn’t it be on the slack side of the sprocket? Thanks again, I’ll keep watching for more.
@TRoutdoors20219 ай бұрын
Your correct it is on the wrong side, I usually just build on the fly with just a rough draft in my mind haha. After the frame was built that’s where it ended up. I haven’t had any issues because it’s a 5/8 bolt holding the tensioner sprocket down so it doesn’t move until the chain stretches again
@christopherdresser13845 ай бұрын
Great job buddy Question where do you get all your parts from.
@460faceplant7 ай бұрын
Your bottom idler for your drive sprocket is on the wrong side, it should have a straight pull on the tension side. Nice clean build though I'm getting ready to build a long track tug.
@TRoutdoors20216 ай бұрын
For sure I couldn’t come up with better placement while building on the fly lol hasn’t given me much grief yet

Hey nice unit where did you get the spline weld on him for your main drive shaft on the track ?
@TRoutdoors2021 Жыл бұрын
Canadian, I put an end mill key way right through the splines. There not actually doing anything just the hub slid over with a normal key way.

@@TRoutdoors2021 awsome idea was scratching my head on this one
@TRoutdoors2021 Жыл бұрын
No problem, yeah I just turned the shaft down to 1in and did the key way. If you don’t have any access to the tooling it can be done at a machine shop fairly cheap and shouldn’t take long
@TheChevyboy19946 ай бұрын
Was there a specific dimension you had to keep with the mounting bolts on the track or just have it mount wherever it landed after being compressed down?
@TRoutdoors20216 ай бұрын
I locked the suspension out that way the bolt spacing stayed the same and went from there 👍🏻
@philipgagne18526 ай бұрын
What thickness is the plate steel used for the skid mounting tabs and the box around the the gearing setup?. Jas ot been strong enough?.
@TRoutdoors20216 ай бұрын
I used 3/16 for the tabs and 10gauge for the gear box stuff
@denakorth3406 Жыл бұрын
Would you make one to sell? How much would you charge? I would want one. I like the nice welded frame.
@TRoutdoors2021 Жыл бұрын
Right now I am just building for myself. In the future I wouldn’t mind building a couple for people. I think for a welded frame track sled prices seem to be around 1400-1800$ which is still very decent considering actual snow dog prices start at 3k If you are handy though one can be made from an old sled very cheap.
@slodziaksos5 ай бұрын

Why do some guys weld the suspension, and others don't? I'm considering building one, so I'm seeing that.
@TRoutdoors2021 Жыл бұрын
With some suspensions they sag pretty bad when you want to push down on the handle bars to get the front end of the track sled up. After having both now. I wouldn’t care either way. I guess there is less part to brake with it being locked out as well

@TRoutdoors202110 ай бұрын
I actually just cut the spine off and put a key way on the shaft. But if you still have the disc brake you could cut that down and weld a sprocket to it.
