We definitely did the first look (dad and groom), the side swap, and personal vows. I wish we could have done a ring warming, but our guest count was way too big! But, this is so interesting, I'm in the US and 10 years ago EVERY wedding I went to had the sand ceremony and they are still so common that people are trying to avoid them XD We did a unity cocktail instead.

Where me and my partner are getting married they plant a tree for every wedding with a name plaque and the date. I think its wonderful and we can then go to our tree we can put plants around it we can do what we want with it. Xx

We are in Canada. We are doing a first look and our couple photos before the ceremony. It does two things for us. First, my fiancé is very introverted and doing a first look and getting some time together before spending the rest of the day with family and friends gives him a bit of breathing room. It’s more intimate and I love that. I also like that we then won’t miss a lot of our cocktail hour taking pictures. I feel like it will give us more space and time to actually enjoy our wedding.

We are having a commitments ceremony in July for our dad, who is on end of life care. We are having a hand fasting. Our actual wedding is next May We are marrying in a church then having a wedding breakfast etc at another venue. We are learning a lot through your videos and check lists that we had not even thought about. Thank you so much for sharing this information.

I love all the different ideas ! I'm doing first looks with my dad and vows but i love the idea of doing the brides family on the opposite sides! Also I think we need a video of wedding registry must haves. I'm creating mine now and I'm like, what do I put on here that I don't already have!

We are having a Quaich as part of our ceremony. This will have a sentimental drink within it where we will share a drink with each other and a member from each side of our family. (Very Scottish tradition 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿)

I am having a unity candle for me my fiance and my son so we are all uniting together :) I was going to do the sand but worried about the mess and temptation for my son haha i love the switching of the sides though :)

What a great video, introing couples to ideas to personalise their wedding! ❤🎉 I will throw one more in for fun: take the ring bearing job off the Best Man (or Best Person). They usually don't care about that job so much, it's more convenience than anything. Why not ask both mums to give your wedding ring to your partner, with a hug and kiss? Or oldest friends, or siblings? It suddenly becomes a very touching moment, rather than the usual "Have i lost them? Oh no, here you go" flavour of Best Men ringbearing 😅

I literally decided on the side swap myself a few weeks back, I didn't realise it was a new tradition as I'd never heard of it before. I now feel like it's not so special! 😭 I won't change it though as I'd like to look at my family and friends and not my partners 😅

For my sister's wedding reception, towards the end of the evening, her Swiss friends passed around small unlit candles among the guests, then had everyone light their candle and add them to a big wooden heart with holes drilled for the candles. In the end the heart was placed in front of the couple with all the lights and love from their guests. I don't know if it's a Swiss tradition, but it was very sweet!

We had a destination elopement in Sedona, Arizona 2 weeks ago and our officiant incorporated some spiritual and Native American elements indicative of the place. We started with a short mindfulness meditation to clear our heads and then she called in each of the 4 cardinal directions, while we turned to face each. She explained the significance of each direction and how they apply to life and our new marriage. Then we had another meditation/grounding moment with her playing a singing bowl tuned to the heart Chakra, walking around us in slow circles and vocalizing in harmony with the bowl. The change in sound as she walked behind me and then my husband is something I'll never forget. Everything was absolutely breathtaking and so special with our surroundings. We then both recited our personally written vows. I couldn't have asked for a more beautiful bespoke ceremony. Haha, I'm tearing up writing this! I know customs are different in other countries but you can truly make the memory whatever you want it to be! I also stood on the opposite side, the right side. It was just us, the photographer, and our witness (my best friend) so it didn't matter to us where we stand and that's my better angle, lol! We're having a formal reception for family and friends in October so I'm still planning. I really appreciate your channel!
