New Traffic Signals at The Queensway & Sunnyside Ave in Toronto!

New traffic signals have been installed at The Queensway & Sunnyside Ave in Toronto!

- This is a T-intersection
- This intersection operates as "semi actuated vehicle" mode of control.
- There is only a crosswalk at the north leg of the intersection.
For traffic signal timing:
- Eastbound has a leading left turn phase (fully protected), followed by an east/west phase with streetcars.
- Southbound has a green ball.
The eastbound left turn phase is callable and extendable.
The only thing I would change, are the southbound vehicle signals to a 4 section with a left & right green arrow, since there are no crosswalks to cross The Queensway. Shown as signal "Type 6" in the Ontario Traffic Manual Book 12 section 2.3 regulation 626.
Other than that, I am really happy with these new signals and its phasing!

Good setup! I like how they used green through arrows for the eastbound movement. I agree that they should’ve made the side-street signal a 4-section with green left and right arrows. Maybe they plan to add crosswalks in the future?

As far as I know, there are no plans to add any crosswalks to cross The Queensway. The only reason there aren't any crosswalks to cross The Queensway, is because there are no sidewalks or destinations at the south side. Knowing that The Queensway was just resurfaced and widened last year, I doubt they'll widen again right after finishing road widening construction.

May need a No Right on Red for the Southbound traffic from Sunnyside, just during the Eastbound left phase given the traffic making U-turns and the conflict and possibility for collisions durning that short phase. Could be achieved with an illuminated sign for that portion of the cycle.

I didn’t think u-turns were allowed at all, anywhere… One side getting the advance isn’t exactly a ‘new’ thing.
