Without a publicly disclosed and approved overarching city development plan, all these little projects might just be excuses to disperse national wealth into elite hands of select cronies. What good is an over-priced pocket park to the local residents there? In a year or two it might be full of litter and derelict vehicles or worse. It's too small to be staffed or attended so it will be an unkempt eyesore in short time. Big cities around the globe have made similar mistakes at a grander scale so it's not just Guyana. Guyana may never get a second chance to have the incoming wealth to invest however.

Somehow i came across this video. As a Surinamese watching... no offence but Guyana sure does have a weird way of doing things. The idea isn't bad, but rather than building a park in the middle of the road, reserving a plot of land for it would make more sense to me. Would also be perfect for a mini football pitch.

As a Guyanese, no offence but your idea is just as weird as our way of doing things. They should just expand the roads and improve the infrastructure, why reserve the land? Sounds like a waste of an idea to me.

@@mrrreddy8067 That's how we do it in Suriname. We don't build parks and whatnot in the middle of the road, for safety and aesthetic reasons. In Suriname, a common practice is to designate a (significant) area of land for the future construction of outdoor football/futsal pitches. You can find these pitches throughout the country. Only small downside is, when you use it, you have to pay a small fee for maintenance, lighting... etc

These projects are public infrastructure. Should be transparent and public knowledge....sometimes governments invite public comments by holding meetings at PIC public information centers. Urban/city planning to some degree may be looking at the public owned lands to make an impact to recreational facilities. That's a good initiative. Communication is important so that the public is aware and will partner with the city to use and take care of these facilities. The raised median and street lights indicate that it seem to be a divided 4 lanes road Urban or semi urban design and not sure if pedestrian sidewalks will be built, since guyanese are loving their cars. However this train line road has to end somewhere before it reaches Vlissengen Rd. The little park may be where the road starts to narrow down, before it ends. Could it become an open market of some sort? Up to the city planners. But we could think about a little place to stage live performance? No new Johnny Brafs out there?

They are not asking for advice, but lines for cable cars for transportation all the way up the East Coast , could have been placed there. Hope those wooden fences will be maintained, metal may have been better. It looks good for now but all can guess how it will look a year or two later on.

Raphael Nation you mean well and, it is nice to see some new buildings in Georgetown for that is not the case in much of Guyana where the people continue to subsist in relative poverty. The PPP know very little about urban development. Guyanese need outside help in designing and completing these projects. I have seen these attempts and they all look misplaced for the areas around them are run down, pot hole filled, constantly under water, overgrown grass etc. the place just look like twenty five years ago. The little islands of the Caribbean do not have oil revenues to spend but when they build it looks more complete and aesthetic. They are not afraid to employ people from places that are more developed and, who can add that knowledge to their development. Jagdeo and his team are wasting Guyana’s wealth on these ill conceived projects. Paint the place, fix the roads, clean the drains, cut the grass. Make the place look like it progressing.

Lamaha street should have been widen..waste resource and space....with that said guyana's current work force or lack there of and currupted practices and lack of a reliable maintenance service plan..is some of the reasons why a public implementation of transportation system dont make semse right now.

That’s not how public transportation works. Mass transit systems like metro railways can grow the GDP of the country by making transportation more efficient affordable and available. This creates jobs increases household income and reduces road deaths.

Are those WOODEN fences 🤦🏿‍♂️🤦🏾‍♂️🤦‍♂️ whose "brilliant idea is this waste of contact funds lining somebody's pocket.. in a few months as the traffic gross wise and they need 4 to 5 lanes more they will then get a similar contact to line their pocket to do this and pace it over with usable oads... And YES I'm Guyanese..i can see these scamps and what they are doing from a mile away. Nonsense.

This is real BS. Make a vendors arcade, move all the vendors temporarily from Stabroek market, redevelop Stabroek and put them back.So flipping stupid.
