New trains - Class 231s

The next generation of trains is coming down the track

Stadler are also manufacturing the Class 756 which are basically the same as the Class 231 but the Class 231 are diesel only and Class 756 are Tri-mode. And the Class 398 Citylink Tram-train vehicles are also to be built by Stadler for Transport for Wales. Really looking forward to seeing your new trains coming into service from next year Transport for Wales. And not forgetting the Class 197 Civity that CAF are continuing on manufacturing the new trains.

They’re not for the valley lines sorry. The Merthyr, aberdare and treherbert lines are becoming fully electric with brand new tram trains.

@@jasongnrfan7374 those trains are gonna be temporarily used on the rhymney line until their tri-mode units arrive at canton sometime next year. They want to get rid of their 769 units cause they’re proving quite unreliable atm

@@jamiejones4419 yes I've heared that I personally don't see why they can't electrify the 150s basically just used the shell and rebrand

@@jasongnrfan7374 it way too time consuming to fully strip 36 class 150s of their Diesel engines (72 engines) which is 2 per train. and add batteries to the units instead. That’s something that’s not gonna happen.

all the lines where the loco has travelled to get to Cardiff may have not been electrified. Sometimes diesel is the only option

Not all of the lines that they have travelled on were electrified, they also have to be tested before being allowed to run unassisted

Note to the video production team- Great shots but it would have been better to either use the actual sounds recorded or a better music track. The music used was painful and detracted from the presentation. Must try harder. As regards the end caption "Coming soon to a railway near you", Can I look forward to a direct service from King's Lynn to Cardiff? I wish!
