After nine years with the old bed and the fact that it doesn't fit properly in the new Ford, I decided it was finally time to build a new one. This new bed is the same basic style, just slightly larger in length, width, and height.

I agree with you. You don’t need drawers. More trouble than they’d be worth. My sweet husband was not in any way a handyman! He used to fix the toilet with twisty ties! lol. We made it thru 53 years until he passed away 10 yers ago. Looking forward to see you camping with your snazzy new bad. A new expression I’ve picked up lately. “ Not too shabby”.😊

Your "project" videos are always informative and entertaining. And you're right about not adding drawers. You'd constantly be moving stuff off the floor every time you needed to open them. The lid design is perfect.

I think a painting the bed navy blue would look good. Adding a pop of color that would look good with the gray interior....

At 19:50 it kinda looked like a coffin lol..I'd stain it lighter shade of gray to pop from the dark interior ✌️

​@@CrazyQuadytry a sample of grey stain with a darker wood stain over it. My son did that to his new cabinet's when he built his new house last summer. It wasn't intentional but looks good. And you can see the grain with a grey undertone. Try it on a scrap piece of wood. I bet you would like it. If I had your email, I would have him take a picture of them and send it to you.

You know Mike, You are really talented. I've seen you build and create quite a few things over the past couple of years. Just think if you went into the truck camper bed building business. I bet people would pay a lot of money for something like this! I bet it will be much more comfortable.

I would wrap the sides with regular gray speaker box carpet to match the bed rug and topper liner. Nice job either way.

My son had stained his new kitchen a grey and decided he wanted like a dark oak or something like that and the the grey undertone of the wood stain color, looks really good. So you could try a sample piece and see how you like it. He didn't intentionally do it but it really looks good.

a small slide out kitchen would be sweet...self stored...eliminates a tote...would only have to use half of it and in inclement weather you could raise the whole thing and cook inside and have counter space then have a small camp chair opposite

I would have done yellow for the wood. Add some color, and it will add an open feeling when you're inside.

The bed looks nice. You did a good job, but what You are forgetting is with the mattress on to bed. You will be hitting your head on the top of the Topper.

A little tip: if the screws are long and you dont want to predrill or cant. Dip the tip in some Vaseline and viola! I promise you!! 😅

Love how that came together! I didn’t think about the airflow issue and makes total sense. Drawers on that setup don’t make sense as you can get to the stuff under it pretty easily

Great video my friend. Awesome job on the bed. Looks great just need a mattress now. Yall got a chance of severe storms and tornadoes tomorrow highest chances are down in OK though. Be careful out there. If you ever need help with the storms I got you. I would never want to see you get yourself hurt trying to catch a Nader. You know what would be cool is making a tiny camper out of the trailer. I'm thinking once I get a new landscaping trailer I'll turn my current one into a mini camper. Cheers drinking one for you bud. Hey Quady, I know you already have the bed built, but just a useful tip for ya next time you build something... If you don't want to split your wood or mess with pre drilling all your holes, you can just run the screw in counterclockwise for about half an inch, then run it in clockwise and it shouldn't split your wood. Not sure why or how it does it, but works for me everytime and saves a ton of time. Cheers🍻

I think if ya burn the wood an oil it that would be awesome. I just built a table an took a torch to it. An it was awesome. Brings out the natural wood look an preserves it better.

Came out nice! Plus having a drawer would get in the way. Because if you cook inside when it’s raining and you have your cooler or other stuff out, you won’t be able to pull the drawer open. The neighbors probably thought you were building a coffin 😀 If I was your neighbor I would look out my window saying what’s that dude up to? 😅 And where is his wife? Sorry I’ve been watching too many Datelines 🫣🤦🏽‍♀️

I'd go low to zero VOC coatings, paints and stains can off gas for a while and in a confined space like that it's hard to get away from the fumes. Vermont Natural Coatings would be the only place I know of with zero VOCs, although there may be others.

Bed build looks great! Yes for stain, no for paint, I think a stain close to the color of the Adidas sneakers your wearing in the video would look good. It adds a contrast of color but stays in the color spectrum.

I have a custom built bed with storage and opposite storage boxes that fit a F250, 6' 8" bed. Free, in Norman Ok. Available 4/28 to 5/5. Don't mean hijack, but I hate to trash it. I spent 800. on material alone.

I’m a pretty new subscriber to the channel, that bed looks really good. If you went with a drawer all your stuff would get wet having to jump out to open it since you camp a lot in storms. I just put together a rig in a ‘22 Duramax 3/4 ton and I used a disc-o-bed cot that slides over the wheel well. All my totes fit underneath. Everything can be taken out in minutes to convert back for truck things.
