That helmet is a crazy looking piece of equipment. I agree with all your points here, especially the amateur wanting to compete but not being able to afford the equipment. I wonder how much of an advantage this gives a rider? Is racing comparing riders or equipment? I am for the development of equipment as long as it can be relatively easy to obtain and affordable to the average person, which would make riding more fun and attractive to non-cyclists who might want to give it a riding a try (electric shifting, pinion gearbox, hub shifting, relaxed geometry, pedal assist, etc).

An aero bike against a non-aero bike will give you around a 2 kph advantage. Add in an aero helmet, aero wheels and clothing and goodness knows what the difference would be!

@Biking360 Thanks for the info. Would probably be better to aero Ol' Richard down. Of course, at my ever advancing age, I do enjoy my 4 speeds; slow, slower, slowest and 🐢. Mostly 🐢.

Cycling is not a sport. Professional cycling is a riding around with advertising trying to please the sponsor. If the helmet fits with what the sponsor wants then fine. But, because you know there is a but.. amateurs need better rules that keep cost low and keep competition fair.
