The only thing I agree is that these pedals are a complete wast of money if you use them for turing. For MTBing they are not, if you value reliability and don't want to end up with a shattered pedal while in the middle of nowhere. So far I used mine for the past ~6000km, striked them on rocks, at speed, more time than I can count and they still work flawless. Those stud screws (dunno what the exact name is in english) are a trade off. They are extremely grippy ( both on shoe, calves and shins) and they do wear down to the point where they become a pain to remove, but they are also replacable, easy to find in any hardware store and inexpensive, so you can change them more often BEFORE they become a pain. As for mantainance, I serviced 2 pair of stam7 without any issue on the disassembly. Everything came out easily. The grease port you mentioned is not to introduce grease but to to expel the excess when you insert the axle and its boot.

I'm one of those who love Brooks saddles. I got my first 52 years ago on my 10 speed, which is what we used to call road bikes. Within a couple of weeks, I had a second one. Currently, with a lot of bikes in my quiver, I have 5 brooks: 2 regular B17s, 1 Imperial, 1 Flyer and a C19. All except the Flyer are on bikes today. I've probably bought 10 over the years. Were I to use your scoring, I would give it a 10 for both price and comfort, total 44/50. Maybe add another point for durability as well. Shows what a personal decision a saddle is. I have to say that I have never had any B17 flaps spread. The carved ones can spread, which is why they come laced, but a regular B17 shouldn't. Do you increase the tension as the leather stretches? The best part....I never wear padded shorts on a Brooks (or a Berthoud, another favorite). For me, the downside is the short rails. I compensate by using seatposts with a set back.
@Biking3603 ай бұрын
@steveschurr5967 It's great to hear you have had good experiences with Brooks. Saddles are such a personal thing I'm sure you'll agree. Tension was tight. Maybe too tight? I'll possibly try one with a relief channel at some point but we will see. Take care and ride safe.

It is true that the loctite for the bolts is horrible. Solution = open screws when you buy them to loosen them, OR INSTANTLY USE WD40 or smthng simmilar - then clean bolts before unscrewing them. But on the other, hand you are just simply subjective and WRONG. You talk about service at 3000 km ... BROTHER, if you look at their website, they show you: - maintnence at 50-75 hours of use.. and big service with refresh kit @ 150-200 hours of use, maybe that way the screws will not BOND for eternity... you just DID NOT SERVICE THEM at the right time ... and in the right way. Put aside bad locktite (or excess of use from factory) + squishi bolts... Cranckbrothers pedals are maybe the best on the market. ++++ Why do you review MTB pedals if you do road cycling ?!

Like any saddle it needs to support your sit bones and that involves playing around with the tilt angle. It won't be suitable for some bicycles that have you stretched out too far and I found that there wasn't a break=in period if you adjust it correctly and it fits your sit bones, then it's comfortable straight out of the box. You also need to play around with the tension screw so that it isn't to tight and also doesn't sag too much. Get all of these things right and its very comfortable. If the sides cause chaffing, then tie them together to stop them splaying out. When it is working it is almost magical comfort, but when it isn't working it is very uncomfortable, so its worth playing around with to try different settings to better fit your sit bones..

Approximately 10 minute mark talking about who rides what and why is a good point. Where's the peleton? Even the people who do ride with friends in a group never bunch remotely well enough to benefit from streamlining. They are riding and chatting. Aero, weight, etc are all meaningless for 99.9% of people. The flabby bag of water (90kgs!) resting on top of the frame makes it all meaningless. One chainring is a poor option for most people. Three chainrings (26-36-48 or 46) is the optimal with 9 speeds (13-34) at the back. And 7 speeds and 5 speeds at the back would also work well. Thanks for the video.

Interesting discussion. I know that at the Cycle-Re-Cycle shop where I volunteer, trying to repair front and rear derailleurs and get them to mesh properly on older bikes is a royal pain. It is so much easier when there is just a rear derailleur. There are a lot fewer mechanical parts to keep in tune. Of course, this is coming from an amateur volunteer and basically untrained bicycle mechanic. 😂
