UAE introduced changes regarding to its ''6 months rule'' pertaining to resident permit holders. There are lots of misconceptions regarding this change in the UAE residency, and today we are clearing up the confusion.
If you are a Dubai resident, who is traveling for part of the year you will find this information useful.
How did UAE residence permits work before? The main rule was that you can not be outside of the country for more than 6 months at the time. This would result in immediate cancelation of your resident visa. You had to visit the country at least once every 6 months (180 days).
Recently these rules have changed.
Do you need to spend 6 months in UAE (Dubai) in order to keep your residency permit? Absolutely not! Quite the opposite! Now it is easier for you to keep your residency if you were out of the country for more than 6 months.
If you are abroad for more than 6 months, they will not automatically cancel your visa. You will be able to re apply for an entry permit.
You will need to supply the reason why you were absent for this long, and you will need to pay some fines.
This being said you will not be able to extend this absence permanently.
