I went to Dubai for the first time a couple weeks ago. I was pleasantly surprised. As for a USA comparison, it’s more like an improved Vegas. Nothing like Los Angeles in my opinion respectfully. No gambling, way way less drunk people, & more of an international crowd… but that larger than life everything brand new with the build outs was super noticeable. I know it was touched on in this video, but way safer feeling in Dubai compared to the majority of metropolitan cities in the USA.

I’ve visited Dubai (about 10 years ago) and I’ve been living in Las Vegas for the past 8 years. I’ll say this, back then I felt Dubai was Las Vegas on steroids. Now, Las Vegas still can’t keep up. Raiders, Golden Knights, Aces, Athletics and new casinos and hotels, still doesn’t keep up with Dubai today. Just my opinion.

The growth part is important. The best part of dubai, singapore etc is that the people are all focussed on growth - people are trying to chase their dreams. They say you are the average of 5 people you surround yourself with. Being around a society that chases growth will eventually influence you in good ways.

The growth part is super critical and a lot of people simply don't comprehend it, or understimate its value. As a Brit, the UK has a clear culture of "traditional complacency." Where we keep around what's "old" and simply patch over it if it breaks, resulting in a lot of really inefficient, overly complex, and unreliable foundations to society. Pweople are more concerned with preserving what they have left, rather than growing and building, and it's extremely depressing for people like me. The world is moving on and leaving the west behind, and we in the west have this misconception that the pedigree of our countries and cultures is enough. It isn't. Our cities are old and stagnating, while being full of crime. Dubai is far from perfect, but I think it's the best choice an international citizen has for a safe and secure future.
@tuomaskiv

Very well said my friend, it is a shame indeed. It's iinteresting from a historical perspective how this culture of complacency has developed and now it is really hurting Europe, and esp UK.

It’s okay not to change or grow things for the sake sometimes. It’s okay for things to reference tradition and subtly change overtime. I’m not from the west, but I have visited Some European cities and I don’t think they are stagnant places. I personally like that they have strong reference to their history but at the same time I see lots of advancements that are in place to benefit people based on our times. These cities are leaders in many advancements in transportation, sustainability, arts and culture, technology etc and in a way do it in a very practical manner that isn’t all about making the next big thing. I appreciate that, if I’m being honest. Much more that the culture of doing big things for the sake of it.

I've been in Dubai for 8 years now. I used to love it, but the quality of the people coming lately is lower than before, and this impacts the overall feel and class of the place. Genuinely talented expats are getting priced out, and there just aren't as many financial incentives (other than zero income tax) as there were before, because most people don't need to be "convinced" to move here as much as they did previosuly. (Inventives for those wondering would be things like housing transport allowances and shareholdings, etc. which were commonly very high a few years ago). The pollution is also insane, partly because of the number of cars that have come, rising by about a million each year! Also, Dubai burns its landfills and has no sustainable way of getting rid of biowaste and garbage. So for 8 months of the year in "summer" the lack of wind to blow away nasty fumes means Dubai is consistently in the top 10 worst polluted cities in the world, with thousands of deaths caused by pollution each year, listed among other developing countries where you'd think Dubai should not belong. BUT, I'm still bloody here! That's because I agree Europe is in the past and slowly falling apart, so I'm in a total dilemma in terms of where to go.

Few points I must say so people get the full picture. I lived there for years and yes, it is safe and nice IF you go where the westerners are located. Don't believe me, have a look at some stats on sa... You will pay 1st world prices for 3rd world services and products. If you're an outdorrsie kinda person the uae IS NOT the place for you. If you like shopping and hanging out at cafes, it's for you. It really is expensive and the traffic is horrible. HORRIBLE!! you will always need to live close to work, so factor that in. Overall, it is a nice country and I love the locals (what emiraties call themselves). If they keep the standards they have now, I would say there are so many pros. Even tho I have stated some cons. And remember, you're in a place with a lot of sand, what health issues can that lead to... lung cancer. The most common form of cancer. So if you do it, be smart. Best of luck

Great recap. And respect for your truthful analysis of EU - that’s why KZbin, Apple, Google, FB, etc are US - Euros who are born into the right families and get educated take the easy route. Dubai was based on Singapore as far as law and order. I’ve been visiting for a long time - but always Nov - March. In the summer my friends say you exercise (run tennis, football) outside at 6AM or 10PM. But there are plenty of indoor gyms for staying in shape in the hot months. Didn’t scroll all the way down - but we Americans only have to pay tax on wages over $125k/yr. Still ridiculous but not that bad. And that can be avoided by setting up a company, as you said the bar is much higher, then pay yourself a salary below $125k.

Was there for 9 years and it really does depend on who you are, what you do, and where you're from. Whilst cost is relative to your earnings, without a doubt, Dubai is not value for money and has gotten worse. That goes for food and beverage and service in almost every industry. As I said, if your nationality restricts you from choosing any country, then Dubai may be an option, but otherwise, there are many many countries that are better value for money, better weather, lifestyle, travel and better for doing business and establishing a company.

Thanks for the insights. I think Singapore is probably a better compromise for many people. It also has a growth mindset with low taxes and the possibility of a lavish lifestyle. But at the same time it’s not as strict when it comes to things like alcohol, religion and freedom of sexuality that westerners are so used to (except dont smuggle weed or they’ll literally hang you lol). It also has a stable temperature all year round, not too hot, not too cold and virtually no crime. The biggest downside lately I think is cost of living, the rental prices went thru the roof in the last few years, making it harder to start out.

@@MMABeijing Somalia has one of the world largest oil and gas reserves. Over 115 billion barrels of oil 🛢️ offshore Somalia that's more than the UAE or Kuwait. Onshore Somalia has lots of oil and gas too. It has one of the largest uranium reserves in the world, plenty of gold and other precious minerals. It is strategically located in trade routes linking east west and south and has huge blue economy potential too. Turkey has signed 10 year deal to protect it's coast mainland Africa longest coastline with pristine white sand beaches and good climate. Somalia is one of the last place in the world with lots of unoccupied beaches . There will be lots of millionaires in Asia and Africa that will want to live by the beach and globally it's very hard to find beach real estate still available or affordable. So a huge boom will start by 2030 as demand increases. Oil drilling is expected to take place this year or next latest . Somalia is a frontier market with huge potential if they play their cards right and sogar things are getting better with the country having no more debt.

I love the UAE I'm American and I have lived in the UAE for more than half of my life. I love it here I live in Abu Dhabi and I prefer living here over living in the US. Life is easy going its safe people are generally easy going and friendly. Its easy to make friends with people from all over the world. Health care is great here and much much cheaper than it would be in the United States. I went back to my hometown in New York state ( not NYC ) one summer and got robbed thankfully I was not hurt just poorer, but that is simply something that I do not have to worry about with living in the UAE theft never happens here.

It's so curious and interesting how different we people are. I'm from Salvador, Brazil, a city where is summer 365 days a year, sun all the time and hot, but less than Dubai, and I left because I just cannot deal with 365 days of sun and warm weather, you just have no peace, no cozy day ever. That's the main reason I would never live in Dubai: I've been there 4 times and I could not spend more than 15 minutes outside, away for air conditioning. This is hell for me. But it's very interesting to see almost and exact opposite point of view. Cool video 👏🏽
