The whole point was to prove that Paul was a sad excuse of writing material that he would try hard to prove his relevance. Spooderman dared him, which anyone with brains should recognize there's a setup going to happen. Paul was arrogant enough to fall for it. First two sentences were to goad his ego, that taking someone else's partner and doing stuff while the main attraction (Spider-Man) was away saving the world, made him a man. The third sentence was the entrapment, which he walked right into but he can't avoid it since he agreed to the dare. The last bit on spooderman's part was the icing on top. Bottom line: Paul is the joke.

Honestly, Spiderverse Peter and mainline Peter would have interesting reactions to Ultimate Peter: He's 30ish, he willingly chose to become Spider-Man (no accidental spider bite), his uncle Ben is still alive, he's married to MJ and they have two kids, Harry Osbourne (who he only recently met) gave him the power and responsibility speech, his daughter came up with the color scheme of his suit, he didn't make any of his gear as it came with the suit, he's only been Spider-man for maybe a year, and his very first suit might be his universe's version of the Venom Symbiote given the AI uses we as pronoun.
