I did slayer until i could afford a fang. Once fang unlocked it got me into so many bosses and eventually Toa. Giant mole became vorkath. That into Toa. I understand it is "too powerful for its price" but sometimes that's not so bad? I will still be out-dpsd by torva dudes with tumekens shadow compared to my trident of swamp. Their twisted bow compared to my dragon crossbow. My trusty barrows gloves, dragon defender and osmutens fang let me do some content that may have not been possible otherwise. More kind of that gear would be appreciated by me. Not necessarily broken and bis just decent enough to nudge the average joe like me forwards to "harder" content. I couldn't slay vorkath with ranged but melee with fang was easy. A dhl sitting at 50m that is just for dragons wasnt very appealing for me to grind out a content I had zero clue about. this 25m stabby boi doesn't force me to one thing it gave me more avenues. I'm not a totally new player either, Im just a returner. There's many of us that are just too shy to get into raids lol. King condor you got some really fresh takes that I appreciate, keep doing what youre doing, king.

Genuinely good take here. I think the fang should have been reconsidered before launch strictly because I don't think a weapon that helps you curate accuracy beyond the already determined stats isn't healthy for game longevity. But since we already have it, it's totally OK to be comparable to scythe. They honestly should just remove the passive accuracy on its slash style since it was designed to be a stab weapon. The scythe should have its crush style removed in its entirety.

you described how I feel exactly... the Fang is an absolute lifesaver for us plebs who are jut scraping by. I ended up selling my fang and tassies to get DHCB for Vorkath and have been slowly making money that way, but fang is also a great option which allows us poor folk to do more.

My take is that shield should have low strength and high defence. And a defender(despite its name) should have high strength low defence. But most of the time you just want more strength right

I wouldn't classify vorkath and normal gauntlet as later game content, but is important for your base understanding of osrs pvm mechanics. Good on you for making that step forward, I've been on that road for a while now and can confidently say that learning in this phase is the most fun I've had in the game so far. Did pretty much every solo boss there is and ToA. Going to step into ToB soon. Gl on your grind!

Scythe doesnt need to be bis everywhere, but it should have a comparable use case to tbow/shadow. The gap between shadow/fang/saeldor should be similar to tbow/zcb/bofa or shadow/sang/toxic trident. It's also very expensive to use in comparison and could use a bit of a buff, or at a minimum new content designed specifically with scythe as bis in mind

Scythe should be bis vs VERY low defense (near or below 0) and only vs VERY low defense. Nothing that triple hits should hit hard vs high def and we all know that from rs3s past mistakes.

Scythe is always BIS at Duke. BGS just speeds up the kill. Fang follows the Scythe in DPS disparity as the BGS hits higher +/-1% DPS. Keep in mind the Fang also benefits from Def reduction. This isn't a bad thing what's bad is that the Scythe is typically only 10% better for a lot of upkeep. Keeping in mind the Tbow and Shadow are usually 15-30% better with their respective content.

Seems to me like Jagex is falling into the Overwatch developer trap. Devs think they're WAY smarter than they really are. So instead of just making good, fun content and letting the player base organically form the METAs, they're becoming META micro-managers. They should only be tinkering with the META when there's a big, obvious fucking problem and a large portion of the player base makes it well known.

In which case the unironic majority, which is the Settled crowd, doesn’t care about METAs and power creep. They just wanna cut their maple trees and do clue scrolls. The “majority” that it sounds like you’re referring to is actually a very small, very loud minority of players who actually do high end PVM and PVP. Power creep is only a problem for that tiny portion of the player base and even then it’s not fixed by Jagex playing puppet-master with the METAs, it’s fixed by them adding new, fun, challenging content into the game.

If Jagex are having problems with the Bladed Moon + DDS interaction they can try to code the Bladed Moon so that it wouldn't offer accuracy bonus for special attacks. Easy fix. I do think +59 is kinda a lot, it should be lower maybe like +44 to +48 slash bonus bonus and +5 str seems fine, so it'll be better than a dragon defender but overall maybe worse than avernic. Also the DEF lvl required to wield the blade is 65 which is interesting for another build PK build around the shield.

I think when you were looking at dps calcs you forgot to add the +15 slash accuracy to the scythe it's getting with the buff the same time Varlamore comes out. It's going up to 125 slash accuracy. So the scythe dps difference with blade would be even higher too.

Instead of the Echo Crystals being used on the shields, they could instead use the crystal drops from Cerberus or a newer, lower level variant of those crystals from another source or something. Would be a way to have individual buffs to cater to each shield instead of a single item that does the same for all.

I think it's kinda the point with the echo crystals. They don't want them becoming DIS. They want them to be mid game. You're probably right if the in boot slot they could become DIS. In the shield slot they would be for mid game only. I remember they saying this content was mean to be a newer update on the old barrows brothers. Given people useful gear and slowly teaching them movement, prayer and inventory management. Along the way.

whoever was arguing that it becomes better than the scythe is just flat out wrong or they didnt also factor in the pending +15 slash for scythe. it makes it very close on p2 since you lose a hit every 4 attacks , but p3 verzik and all other rooms where you shouldnt be losing attack ticks, scythe will still be 20% better. that being said this item definitely would not have been a healthy addition , especially when the soul reaper axe is meant to be the mid-late grame upgrade prior to the scythe. any concerns about DT2 boss viability should be addressed by reducing vardovis slash and crush defence so that other weapons are more viable on it before mid gamers can get there axe or scythe. same with duke slash , reduce the defence slightly so the kills dont heavily depend on a bgs landing every kc. last thing on your point about the "vocal minority". just becuase there is a smaller % of people who care doesn’t mean they are out of touch or wrong with concerns on reward proposals. its important to calc things and consider the impact new items has on the potential ranking of items as ultimately this is gonna have a long term impact on how valuable uniques will be for raids/late game content. some people are out of touch but spend 10 mins in any discord dedicated to teaching learners or higher efficient strategies and you will get the reasonable answers. basing your opinion on random 1,000kc tobbers is silly

let me be clear, I do not want EOC at all; I quite enjoy RS3 as it is now but EOC was a mistake theyve spent the last decade fixing. but with that being said its interesting to see how the old school devs are going about addressing the same issues that were plaguing RS2's combat back in the day such as power creep vs side creep, trying to keep old content still relevant and trying to balance items between PVM and PVP
