This is a TV series reaction to my first time watching Fallout (Episode 5: The Past) and things continue to get interesting! Despite not having The Ghoul in this episode, the story is still very gripping with the rest of the characters. I enjoy Lucy and Maximus together. And the Vault 32 sitaution with Norm and Betty has my brain rattling. Can't wait for more! The takeaway for me, which at first was confusing, is Coop's eating part of Roger. I think there is some benefit from the flesh of ghouls. It looks like they are the ultimate source of that yellowish drug Coop needs. Thus the whole Super Duper Mart operation with captive ghouls.

2:40 - Maximus doing what he does, and snap-reacting without thinking ahead. He assumed Thaddeus would turn him in, so he immediately acted to (he thought) save his own life. And then, having been burned, he lied to Lucy, because thelling the truth just got him into massive trouble.

13:36 That would have been an underground detonation. Tests done in the 50s and 60s researching what happens when you set a bomb off underground yielded pretty much the same results: not a lot of damage to the surrounding area, but a very deep crater you won't normally find in ground or airbursts.

I think the actress on the bridge was supposed to look like Cricket a merchant you run into in Fallout 4. She's voiced by Tiny Tina's VA too. Even talks like her. Oh also Shady Sands is from Fallout 1.

Fallout isn't a realistic depiction of nuclear war at all. Even in the intro Cooper's daughter would've had her retinas blown out by looking directly into the flash. There was also no firestorm etc. The local effects of nuclear weapons are much more devastating than what fictional media usually shows, especially Fallout. Meanwhile the opposite happens on a global level. It is very unlikely that a nuclear war would cause Earth to become a nuclear wasteland (or cause a nuclear winter for that matter), since the radiation from nukes dissipates quickly and there would be a lot of survivors outside of the big population centers too.

About the fast cleaning.... maybe Vault 31 did that with the help of the folks of 33 that are in the know? Or they have a stash of Mr Handys? The bigger question is why did the people in the know waited that long to clean Vault 32? They could have destroyed the evidence and clean the vault at any point in time after the wedding incident, but they didn't Is Norm's discoveries part of the social experiment running at the tri-vaults? I feel that Norm should have gotten a title card back in episode 1. With all the tri-vault stuff, he almost feels like a main character..

I don't know that I will (because my plan for games is very long at the moment and I'm only streaming twice a week for 3 hours each time), but it will be a long time before I get into Fallout 4 anyway!

I strongly recommend going back to Fallout 1. I put more than a hundred hours into it back in '98 (primarily because RPGs weren't my genre, and I started the game with a character build that did not at all conform to how my play style turned out, but I was too stubborn to start over, so I gutted it out with great pain)... anyway, it's a great game with a great story and great storytelling and great nailbiting gameplay. I really liked the turn-based combat because you really don't know what's going to happen. You make your move, and then the enemies make their moves, and you see your health counting down, and there's *nothing* you can do about it. And then it's your companion's turn, and you see them move behind you and pull out the SMG, and you know what's going to happen next, and then you curse and scream as you get a full burst of friendly SMG fire in the back. Yeah, it's absolutely great. Also, Fallout 1 and 2 start the California storyline that is continued by New Vegas and this show. Fallout 3 and 4 are set on the east coast and are completely separate. You'll get a lot of lore that will explain a lot about what's going on in New Vegas. If you do start playing it, *please* take the time to read the manual beforehand. Without it, you'll be having a really, really hard time. The game expects you to have read it.

I started playing 1 but the gameplay is a struggle for me despite having read things, so I've opted to watch other people's playthroughs of the first two games and I'm gonna get back into Fallout 3!

@@kaiielle Did you struggle with the gameplay itself, e.g., its turn-based nature, or was it more an issue of the clunky UI?

Both. I have no experience with turn-based games, and the UI is definitely a turn-off. Watching other people play is much easier for me to experience the story right now, and who knows maybe I'll go back one day!

@@kaiielle Understood. The UI is quite bad, and I struggled with the turn-based combat myself. But, that said, once you get the hang of it, it is so much fun. It's totally worth it to go back at some point if you have a chance.

Lucy "WHY" because your pip-boy was just too much of a temptation for the fiends. Its rare and valuable. IMO 31 had a few days to clean up 32 after Norm and Chet were there because of the election. Love Norm he is getting answers.

My favorite of the games is leaning towards Fallout 3. I started there. It's good. You probably could play it since you did New Vegas. They're similar. Just make sure you beat the campaign. It's worth it.

Nothing normal is happening to Norm. I'm glad we're being fed what's going on to be on his side with the conspiracy about everyone 31 becomes the overseer. Sets and world building is great because it really appeals to the fans that did play. Do you think the start of the mission for his head was "Don't lose your head" as we saw in the poster? I really hope next season they have something like that with a bomb noise that we hear with each mission.

one odd little detail, If the vaults are as Lucy said, to save america, how come the vault dwellers prefer jello-cake over apple pie? (As Chet says at 12:30) isn't apple pie the most american it can get? Knowing the end of the season, I have my own thought about this.

The main stories in Bethesda games are usually the least interesting part for me, especially when we add all the different mods to the games. 23:35 Afaik there's 3D fan remakes for 1 and 2 in the works too.

Is the substance that the ghouls inhale Radaway? Because the IV bag of it that Max gives Lucy looks a lot like the IVs that were running into the ground to keep The Ghoul from going feral in the first episode. It's all yellow liquid, so maybe I'm just confusing things.

It hasn't been specifically explained or confirmed, but someone commented earlier on this video that they think the Super Duper Mart people were taking ghouls hostage to drain *whatever* liquid out of them to put in the vials for other ghouls. Explains why they have so many vials. For now, I like that theory.

I've seen! For me, my gaming journey is already fully planned for this year and well into 2025. Currently over halfway through Jedi: Survivor, then going to be playing Red Dead Redemption (both games), then I'll be playing Dragon Age Veilguard, then after that is the Alan Wake/Control universe games. Truly not enough time for everything and I don't have the time to stream more while still keeping KZbin and Patreon going for reactions. 😭
