This is a TV series reaction to my first time watching Fallout (Episode 6: The Trap). I really enjoyed getting to see more of Cooper Howard and what people were thinking in the time leading up to the Great War. Lucy is suspicious of Vault 4. Maximus is having the time of his life. And Moldaver really seems to be such a prominent character and for WHAT?! Ahh, this is so fun! Make sure to stick around to the end of this video for my full thoughts and review and thank you so much for watching!

When Lucy walks into the Vault 4 school "...I haven't seen any kids...yet". You see vault kids one time I think, back in ep.1 when Lucy is first introduced and she is reviewing her "skills". Her passion is teaching American history and it shows the classroom full of vault 33 kids, which we never see in the show again. I wonder if that was a Bethesda "no harming kids" thing.

@@kaiielle I think that's just a production decision to imply that there are children, but not to show them, to avoid dealing with the complications of having child actors. For comparison, when they show the nursery and school in vault 32 in episode 1, it's clearly implied that there are no children (anymore) in vault 32.

Yeah, it's 100% different takes. You can kinda tell whenever a scene in a movie or show does a hard cut instead of a camera pan. That's also why some movies and shows showing off with one take scenes where you see that they never do a single cut throughout the whole thing while typically a lot it going on (typically for action scenes that you cannot just easily retake).

28:50 I think the main difference that makes Fallout the show more like Fallout the game, compared to The Last of Us, is that the latter tried to re-tell the story of the game, but had to cut out all of the gameplay because who wants to watch Joel rummage through drawers for 10 hours? And, if you remove all the gameplay, the story of TLOU is really quite straightforward. So they had to add a lot of subplots and add focus to existing side plots, making the show feel less than the game overall because in TLOU the story is the focus. I love TLOU the show, and still think that the way it conveys emotion and weaponizes sadness is second to none. This, on the other hand, telling a new story in the existing world, has a lot more freedom to just focus on the stories it wants to tell, and still feels like the games because in the games, the world is the focus, and not the story as much. I mean, how many people have played the games for hundreds of hours and aren't even halfway done with the supposed main quest? TL;DR: TLOU is about the story, and because the show had to extend/change the story, it feels different. Fallout is about the world, and because the show replicates the world to a T, it feels the same.

And as it turned out The Trap was for the viewers all along. lol I don't think I've seen anyone looking through the ruse here and see vault 4 as good though. It's interesting that you didn't trust the NCR people in vault 4, after you were simping so much for them, not that the NCR is strictly a good faction. It's also funny how much it is in our faces that they make a very clear connection between the NCR and Moldaver in this episode, but again, I've yet to see someone actually realize that at this point. 2:31 & 13:06 Death to management! 16:28 The school could very well also be for the vault dwellers to learn about post war surface history from the surface people they took in. 22:05 And now we know why the gulper in the show looked so different to the games.

Yep. the misdirection to raise suspicions about vault 4 is a fun setup, especially for Fallout players who 100% expect that something shady is going on in every vault. I've seen people dislike the "sex talk" scene because it seems out of place, but I think it is a great way to prime the audience into thinking something is going on. When I first watched it, as soon as the camera panned out to show the "TEST SUBJECTS" sign, I immediately told my wife "they are pumping some kind of gas into that room that's making them act like that" .. that's what the writers intended.

This series was so good at not only giving fans a great Fallout experience, but with sharing what's great about the universe with a wider audience. Because of that, I wonder how much this show is going to affect the next game. My ultimate dream is for the popularity of the show to jumpstart Obsidian into making New Vegas 2. Even though I haven't heard anything about it being in development, priorities might shift with Microsoft wanting to cash in on the show. Granted Bethesda could make Fallout 5. I just don't think that's likely anytime soon, given that they just put out (and continue to support) Starfield, and are currently working on Elder Scrolls 6. At the very least maybe we get a remaster of New Vegas?

About the TLOU vs. Fallout comparison, the real difference I noticed is that they went polar opposite ways in how they adapted the games. TLOU leaned into the realism and canned most of the gamification, whereas Fallout leaned heavily into the gamification with things like the stimpacks, pain resistance, etc. I love them both, but for very different reasons.
@Dark__Thoughts
@Dark__Thoughts Ай бұрын
Gamification arguably works much better for Fallout due to its not so serious tone. Fallout is a very silly franchise, while TLoU is extremely serious. Fallout also has the benefit of being able to just make its own story instead of following the already existing narrative of the TLoU games. They're both amazing game adaptations though and I hope we'll see more of that in the future. On that note, Ella Purnell, who already did a fantastic job with Lucy and also with Powder from Arcane, would also make an excellent Elizabeth from Bioshock.

This Fallout series reminds me a lot of the "LOST" series in terms of exhibition. I just hope it ends better. The LOST series started off strong, got weird, and fizzled out. Toward the end it was obvious that the writers were just winging it, with no particular end result in mind. So far it looks like the Fallout series has a normal primary story arc, just with lots and lots of flashbacks and parallel action cuts that give the viewer deeper understanding. Non linear story telling has it's place. That's good because there will a lot of pissed off new and long time Fallout fans if this is just another cash grab that fails to live up to expectations.

100% Cryo. She's a scientist, rich, had connections, and it would fit into the narrative telling that they're doing, since they reveal her origin in the same episode they show off the cryo tubes in vault 4. Same way they actually make a direct connection between the NCR and her, which also flies over everyone's head on a first watch. They did a really good job in writing this show with all the context clues, for those willing and able to look for them. I just wish they explained the Vault experiments a tiny bit more clearly to the new people watching this, because it's such a major point of the games and should've been made more clear within the first season.

The consensus online seems to be that as "test subjects" Lucy and Maximus were subjected to hormones or a gas of some kind which is why they were so randy in the test subject chamber and Maximus saying, "You smell good." It's a stretch, but I like the idea of it. I love how they used Hollywood Forever Cemetery as a meeting place. A lot of Hollywood stars have their spots there, either graves, tombs, or cremation columbaria for urns. In the 1950's it was still called Hollywood Memorial Park. The list of Hollywood people interred there is huge.
@Dark__Thoughts
@Dark__Thoughts Ай бұрын
Nah. The chamber was originally meant to be used to hold test subjects that fall through the hospital trap above, but the label isn't really accurate anymore since the leadership changes. Using them as test subjects wouldn't make any sense at this point in history of this vault. I think Lucy just was horny, and consequently smelled horny. But Maximus being so naive on that topic could only tell that she smelled good instead of being able to tell why she smelled good.

The experiments weren't inherently meant to be evil, so some of them might as well were running quite successfully. Arguably, any vault that's still intact and running after those 200+ years, is at least not too badly managed. Ultimately, there's not really anything inherently good in the Fallout universe anyway.
