The best game adaptation yet. It feels like the next game. The story builds and adds to the lore, rather than just making a TV version of a story we already know. Every game you play as a completely different character, usually in different parts of the country. The show brought it back to California for the first time in over 25 years. To me, it proves that the world of Fallout is one of the most powerful and thought-provoking IPs in all of media. Perfect balance of comedy and horror, serious and ridiculous.

This. I’ve been playing this series since 10.10.97. Well, more around Christmas 97-98. You get the idea. The show captures and marries the early darkness of 1 and 2, with the nostalgia and look of 3/NV/4.

I rarely watch reaction channels and even rarer ones that are one person, but you have easily become, very quickly, my favourite reactor. Such a focused view on the things you watch. If you haven't seen it already and fancied reacting to the AMC adaptation of Interview with the Vampire, that would be very welcome!

One small thing I would add is that Maximus' friend Dane is not a woman. The actor is a trans man or adjacent (uses 'he' pronouns) and the character is implied to be non-binary.
@UgoWatch5 ай бұрын
That's so nice of you to say! Thank you! I'll have to check out that show, someone else mentioned it as well. @Dane ah! I had no idea! Thanks for correcting that. I'll note that going forward 🙌

Just for the record: Fallout is an action RPG not FPS.
@LordLOC5 ай бұрын
It's absolutely an FPS-RPG since the Bethesda games came out. Previously it was just a CRPG that happened to be isometric like some of the best of all time.

Most definitely not a FPS game, since you can play in third person. RPG Shooter, since the story telling is better than the gunplay

Great reaction. You are very observant and thoughtful, especially for someone not familiar with the games. As someone who started with the original Fallout in 1997, I found this to be an excellent original adaptation of the Fallout world without retreading any Fallout game in particular. And it just gets better throughout the season with a spectacular and satisfying finale that leaves you wanting more. Hope you continue the whole series!

It's funny because I wasn't feeling Maximus's character at all from his first segment, at all. I just didn't like him, his surroundings (even though I love the BoS in the games, go figure lol) etc. But then the interrogation scene came along and his acting alone sold me. And yeah, he's a good character for the rest of the show. Though I think another character got the shaft since they aren't considered one of the main characters even though their story for the rest of the season is just as if not more important than the rest of the characters. Trying not to use spoilers obviously for reasons.

The actor who plays Aspirant Dane who you recognised is actually a guy! He just played a woman in Wheel Of Time. Hell, his character in this show, Aspirant Dane, seems to be nonbinary, so he definitely has range.

Loving your vibe. Great reaction to episode 1. I can already tell this is going to be an awesome ride. 😁👍 [Edit: The TV show is its own original story with new characters and new events but it's still set in the Fallout world.]

You're in for a wild ride man, this show is fantastic. Better get used to that violence, though: Over-the-top, splatterhouse-style blood & guts is just part of the setting. edit: The "Westworld" vibe is no coincidence, it's the same director (John Nolan). He's a fan of the games, too.

Fallout is a retro future as envisioned by people from the 1950s. It is an alternate timeline where portable fusion power is commonplace but electronics are bulky like the arm computers the vault dwellers have. (the pip-boy) The bombs fall in 2077. The best thing they did with the series is not trying to make it realistic, the world operates with game logic, instant healing, weird events, random Non Player Characters. Lucys marriage application is her character sheet IMO, science skill, repair, guns, melee good agility. 32 could not of asked for help, the inter vault doors only open every three years. (Triannual trade) By the end of the series Norm was my favorite character for sure. The Brotherhood of steel is a religious order like medieval templars. Maximus is a squire to knight Titus. Yes, fallout is all about factions no central government.

Apart from the logistics of a limited number of people in a Vault? I cannot help but think the ‘cousin stuff’ reference is to the ‘Kissing Cousins’ idea, as exemplified by the titular Elvis Presley movie of the same name. The last Fallout game was 76 after all, which verges into that part of America.
@toomanyaccounts4 ай бұрын
Being with your cousin seeming wrong is considered odd in the UK where first blood cousins marrying is routine and most third world countries where there are no family trees but family sticks. Its the only the US where being sexually involved with cousins is considered a wrongness

You might be the only reactor I've found that thought there was something between Maximus and Dane, or at the very least obviously, Dane liked Maximus. But of course, the internet has ot have a literal stroke that Dane is non-binary (some people said trans, but the character was referred to as them/they several times in this episode, so I don't think they are trans) and just forgot that possibility over internet-rage. In any event, the opening 10 minutes of this show might be the best opening to a show I've ever seen. And I've nearly 50 and I've seen shows that are 35 or 40 years old or older that are considered absolute classics and some of the best TV ever made. And I've said this in many comments I've made on this show - but in the opening, Coop's daughter was the CUTEST THING EVER OMG. Which of course they used specifically for the opening to make it heart wrenching when the nukes dropped. And I don't know if you noticed, but the actor who played the lead bounty hunter at the end was played by Bubba from Forrest Gump :) the show has tons of character actors who show up all throughout the run of the episodes, some are unexpected and some are just amazing to see :D

Unless one is assigned nonbinary at birth realizing that one is nonbinary involves transitioning out of one's original gender, so the vast overwhelming majority of nonbinary people ARE under the trans umbrella. It's much like the way a genderfluid individual is still trans even if they, in the moment, most closely identify as the gender they were assigned at birth; being trans is about having had the experience of transitioning gender, regardless of the gender of origin, the target gender, or even if that transition ever stops. In Dane's case, they're played by Xelia Mendez-Jones, who is nonbinary transmasc (which is to say 'assigned female at birth but tends towards a more masculine personal expression') so chances are good that Dane is as well. Xelia prefers He/They pronouns, but Dane seems to be solidly They/Them (probably a decision on the part of the writers and/or showrunners to be unambiguous about Dane's nonbinary gender). I wouldn't be surprised if Dane had a thing for Max, though. There's definitely a vibe of 'I want to emotionally bond with this person' that went into taking him to the power armor bay.
