Oh heavens, Doug...! What on Earth possessed What Car? to think that a £60k+ people carrier, with no rear air vents nor opening rear windows should EVER be considered a 'Car of the Year'...??? 😳 Put it this way, it's a good job the efficiency and range are so poor - at least, that way, you'll be forced in to stopping more often to let the kids / dogs out to get some fresh air...!! 🤣

Call me a Tesla fanboy, but you can get a Model Y long-range for £10,000 less, and it has 80 miles more range, four-wheel drive, faster acceleration, Supercharger access, and faster charging speeds. The boot space is 971 L (2,158 L with seats folded) so you're sacrificing a lot for a little more storage.

What is it with you guys and VW? Virtually every review, no matter the make you are reviewing, you have to mention VW as a comparison. The ID buzz would be a great fun little get around. However it is very expensive, for what it is. It is very basic in build quality. Lots of hard plastics. Not as practical as the brilliant VW microbus of the 60s/70s, which it is trying to emulate and failing miserably. I'm sure some rich kids, in California, will be captivated by it's funky, futuristic, retro looks. Yes there is a lot going on design wise. LOL. There are much better alternatives. Car of the year? Very funny. 😂🤣😂🤣😂

@@stevenjones916 If you say, so, Steven. But it’s not even what I would call a car. The only thing it has going for it, is its space. So basically it is a van with seats. In fact, it was launched as a van. That is why the rear windows do not open. That would be fun for the rear occupants on a warm day. It will be interesting to see how many sales of this, overpriced box on wheels. Sorry, I mean CAR of the year, VW actually make. 😊

@@anemeth9281 That is completely unacceptable, for a vehicle of this size and price. I have a medium-sized SUV, that has vents in the back, for the passengers comfort. The rear windows roll down, as well. It is literally half the price of the ID Buzz and has a much better specification, when it comes to comfort features. Perhaps most importantly. As I live in the Midlands of the UK. I can get to any destination without needing to stop for a recharge. Making journey times a lot faster. If Volkswagen added a hybrid engine option, and upgraded the suspension for off road capabilities, and the crab crawling orbs on super luxury vehicles. I would buy it. I have zero desire for any electric vehicle, 30 minutes to recharge IF you can find a proper charger, nah.. I really don't care about the price, I care about not being able to find a charger in the country I am in. Also, it would be nice if the work station was linked to satellites with high speed internet capabilities. Unfortunately I know Solar panels aren't powerful enough to keep much more than the DVD player going. I think it's a great idea with obvious slacking in important things.

How long do you suppose it was before the petrol station network was good enough for long distance touring? The issue now with anything that relies on petrol or diesel, is how long you'll be able to source fuel. Because if you looked at Shell's latest business report, you'd see the part where they plan to cut (yes cut) the refining and production of petrol and diesel by 40% on the run up to 2030. And what about after 2030? Well who knows? And given the sheer number of ULEZ charging schemes Councils and Local Authorities almost everywhere have got lined up to appear within the next couple of years or so, you'll be lucky if you are even able to drive a car with an engine into a town or city without getting hammered with a ridiculous charge. That nice Mr Kahn in London wants to charge £12.50 per day - 7 days a week - using his scheme if your car can't meet Euro 6 emission standards, And what's to say they won't all up it to Euro 7 once that appears in 2025? Very little - if anything - with internal combustion, pistons and an exhaust will get through Euro 7.
@Steve-Cross
@Steve-Cross Жыл бұрын
@@Brian-om2hh yes, but in the early days of motoring we weren’t reliant on the car. I live in an apartment, there are no charge points for electric vehicles. If I were to buy a car that was totally electric. I would have to waste hours of my life, at public charge points, with the current system. Perhaps they could have some sort of induction charging in car parks and private roads eventually. Like they have with the phones. Each car then, would need a little meter and be charged for how much electricity had been used. I can see that as a possibility, but the infrastructure for that would take years to install. Not forgetting the systems on the cars, to allow for inductive charging There would need to be massive hubs for conventional chargers, massive areas of land taken up for these hubs. Forget the drive in drive out petrol forecourt. Do you honestly believe that this sort of infrastructure will be in place in just eight years? Dream on.
@Steve-Cross
@Steve-Cross Жыл бұрын
@@Brian-om2hh Also. Have you considered the amount of extra energy that we would need to produce, to keep these electric vehicles charged? VW obviously desperate to get these out of showrooms in mid 2024, the lease deals are spectacular at the moment (over 2 years only) but I still won't go for for one whilst the Model Y offers far better efficiency.

I suspect to most normal people this people carrier van (it's not a ruddy car) is going to be way way too expensive, a marketing exercise gone bananas!!! I'm sure they'll be a few benefits families out there with 10 kids, each with different fathers, living in a massive rent free house, smokers and the 77 inch TV sitting in th front room,....... .. oh dont forget the dogs too! Fecking ludicrous!!!

Pure hype. Very expensive with a limited range. Think I'll stick with my 20 grand diesel Tourneo Custom 8 seater.

It was a beautifull dream, but is hasn't met expectations. It looks nice from a distance, but I have no idea how it may be used practice - to short range for long distance travels, to big for a city. The interior is big, but not practical (just compare it to older brothers - Touran or Sharan). Poor quality and high price tag.

Sadly EVs are still a few years off being practical for myself in Australia as the mileage is still far to low for use anywhere but city driving. Unfortunately Australia has been dragging it's feet when it comes to infrastructure for EV use so the chances of being stranded without the means of recharging is high. 😢

What? January, and it's the car of the year? Please, for the love of god no. It's just feeding VW's ego. This is a very expensive tin box that's trying to appeal to all those people who loved the old VW camper from days gone. The original was unique, fun, practical and ground-breaking in many ways. This is just an expensive rip off that plays on the looks of the original but loses all the other good things. Can car manufacturers please get off this high margin gravy-train and just make EV's for the masses and not rich, middle-age surfer boys.

On top of that… Not great build quality with poorly fitting seals, ugly visible welding seams when you open the sliding doors and seat fabric that marks and stains easily. The stupid capacitive buttons on the steering wheel and non-back lit controls are just ridiculous. I do like the styling. However, this cannot be the best EV! I think the rose tinted glasses have affected their judgement. I would say that KIA / Hyundai, Tesla and MG are currently making better EVs generally.
