The only thing that puts me off is the network, the buzz has dreadful range, making the network even more important... If you are a 95% short drive family I'd say go for it, but if you travel 160+ miles it does get tricky, not impossibly tricky but its worth a consideration. The other day we had my friends Tycan and we had to hunt for a working charger with 1% battery remaining it felt scary.

I think Range play a part to new EV owners.. Its a big bus, consumption is high compared to the rest, thus it costs more to run. We have an Id3 and a Tesla, we always take the Tesla when we go on long trips/ abroad, as its hassle free, and while I drive both, the standard network just needs more planning, while the Tesla does not.

As a camler & mobile storage, workshop it is ideal. When I fit the pop up tent on the roof I will probably be sleeping in it @ home also. Such a nice looking thing to be in. Comfortable & roomy. Sound system, lcd screens, fridge in the back. Open the rear hatch & side doors. Lights on party in the driveway. Sleepover in the roof tent. I absolutely love it. Charge over night @ home. Caml site hook up & pitch. Then off the following morning. Trip to Cornwall was a hoot. Cars flashed & waved. People spoke to me in the car parks. Never got that in most other cars I have had. Got used to operations OK. Can't see what the moans are about personally. I have bought an emergency spare & jack kit. Solar battery charger & off grid battery & inverter fo camping. The buzz does come with a 300w inverter but Mine powers an air friar. The 12v system is good for the fridge though. Terry.

A not so known factoid: Tesla has reworked the Y’s suspension 30 times since launch in 2020. Meaning, yes, the earlier builds do indeed ride too stiff, but the 2022 and especially now the latest ones, ride noticeably nicer, while still handling just as well. I am not sure if they also reworked the model 3 as such of as much, but probably.
@SpenceW
@SpenceW 2 жыл бұрын
If they have *really* reworked the suspension more than 30 times, they need to try again. My Model Y LR was delivered in Dec ‘22 and ride quality is terrible - harsh, noisy, uncomfortable. By contrast, my June ‘21 Model 3 LR is MUCH more comfortable, as well as handling better. If I was being generous, I’d score current Model Y ride quality at 3 out of 10. That’s appalling for a vehicle costing over £60k (US$80k equivalent)

The 77kW (usable) battery capacity in the Buzz is a little bit on the small side. Once you start actually carrying things and people around, you will be stopping to charge quite a lot. VW should bring a bigger battery for the Buzz (and for the ID.4 / ID.5 too🤞). It's a great, usable and comfortable car overall. It's short range is its only Achilles' Heel.

It's definitely its achilles heel... But it has other issues you should not get in a £60k car: fixed rear windows, pay extra for a 12inch screen instead of a standard 10inch one, boot won't open when plugged into many public chargers due to large space needed for opening it and the charge point being at the rear, no frunk, internal hard plastics scratch easily and should not be in a £60k car.

This is an odd comparison and really only highlights the lack of EV models (this is changing quickly though!). Objectively the Y wins hands down for many more reasons than listed here. But if you want a van and not an SUV then that just doesn't matter. The Y was designed to appeal to the widest possible audience, whereas the Buzz is more of a niche vehicle like the Mini, which I'm sure will be reflected in the sales numbers (the Y is pretty much set to be the #1 selling vehicle in the world next year, and I doubt the Buzz will sell 1/20th the number of cars). The Y will also likely be coming down in price, widening the price gap. It's already pretty silly that the Y is such a better vehicle for less money than the Buzz.

In that respect yes, but they will be cross shopped in a market for those looking for 7 seats and electric mobility - or more likely half the marketplace for these cars would be for image and credibility, that makes the Buzz and Model Y cross-shop competitors of BMWs, Audi's, etc.

@@toyotaprius79 Outside of the EV space I’ve never known a VW Transporter people van to be compared with, for example, a Volvo XC-60, or similar. I can see a huge potential in the market for the VW ID Buzz, but it’s more likely to be compared with a Vauxhall Vivaro-E Life or Mercedes eVito Tourer. These are like-for-like comparisons for customers. Just my opinion, but it was my first thought.

One thing to mention about the new Model Y: there are no parking sensors. This is due to be remedied when they eventually get Tesla Vision (camera-only parking aids) to work properly, but right now there are no audible parking aids on the vehicle. Even the Dacia Sandero Expression gets rear parking sensors, and that costs £45k less than the Model Y. Appalling

In fact you I'd argue Model Y isn't a comparable car to the Buzz- it should be compared against Lexus LM (a bargain in comparison to that one :D) Peugeot Rifter, Vauxhall Vivaro etc (which are a lot cheaper, but smaller ranges, and basic/boring). Comparing the Buzz (which weighs 2.5 tonnes) vs the Y (which weights 1.9 tonnes) is not really comparable, you're getting a lot more car (and naturally due to laws of physics) less range. Price per KG? Tesla model Y £46k/1900kg = £24 per KG. Buzz £59k/2490kg = £23.99. identical price per KG. You're just getting a lot more car for your money. Besides which leasing a pre reg buzz (as specced above with battery above) is cheaper per month anyways

Excellent review. I look forward to improved batteries power density to give the cars 100KWh batteries, then you’ve got usable real world range. Let’s face it the real world range in the VW is 160 miles. As a test, it would be useful to show the miles per KWh on a clear motorway at 70 mph, then we would have some kind of sensible idea of efficiency. The current tests seem useless if every single vehicle gets roughly 20% less the test.

It is misleading to compare the battery size in these two vehicles without also comparing the overall efficiency (measured in watt-hours per mile). Efficiency also affects charging time. An EV with less efficiency will take longer to charge to the same number of miles than an EV with more efficiency. There is a glaring error at 4:32... the Model Y most certainly does have window switches, located on either door armrest. Likewise with the seat adjustment controls, which are located on either front seat. Steering wheel and outside mirror adjustments are made with scroll wheels located on the steering wheel.

Wow, these two are not in the same league... The VW is heavier, slower, more expensive, charges slower, has smaller boot capacity and was released years after the Tesla... @@evboy4287 late reply I know, but it's sloppy journalism to not realise Tesla (like prehaps Landrover) measure boot capacity to the ceiling, where as most manufacturers measure to the bottom of the rear window. Which as you can imagine is a fairly significant difference. So where the boot of the id Buzz is about 1120 liters, the boot of the Tesla will be about half that (excluding under-boot and frunk).

Just for illustration, that 500 mi trip would take 200 kWh with the ID Buzz and 113 kWh with the Model Y. I don't know what the price at rapid chargers in the UK is, but that is a saving of more than €50,= in the Netherlands using the Fastned chargers. Re: storage space, Tesla figures are completely out of whack because they ignore the parcel shelf. Other manufacturers measure up to the parcel shelf. There are direct comparison tests out there showing you can actually fit more in a Skoda Enyaq boot than you can in a Model Y. So comparing it to a Buzz based on Tesla figures is bonkers. Bjorn's banana box tests are instructive. With back seats up up he got 10 in an Enyaq, 9+1(frunk) in a Y and 30 in a Buzz. Yes, 30.
