It’s ridiculous isn’t it? Cars way to expensive! I know most people buy on finance but one of these would surely be around 500-600 a month which would be to much for a a lot of people. Considering also it’s a family car VW are taking the piss!

Until you have actually driven the car, you do not know what you are talking about. I've driven about 6 SUV EV's over the past few weeks and the ID.5 blew them away. I ordered right away. It is smooth, quiet and very very comfortable to drive. It is boring, yes, it is not the quickest...but it is excellent. Everyone is jumping on the touch screen, But .I found it worked very well. Yes there are newer cars out there with better tech....but they cant beat the 5 for easy driving.

So I’ve just been on VW configurator and it’s basically £5000 more for the most basic id5 with the smallest power option than a much better equipped Model Y .The basic model id5 doesn’t even have a heat pump as standard let alone all the added extras you get with a model Y . You’re talking a minimum £7000 more and even then it’s massively slower, less economical , less technology and doesn’t travel as far, and with a Tesla you have access to the only proper charging network world wide. Oh , and you don’t have to service a Tesla where VW want to sell you a service package on top! Ok where do I sign up😂

@@marantamil459 I have a Model 3 for almosst 5 years and never needed to get any service at all. I even still have the original 12V battery. What a difference with my previous VW who needed oil change, smog check, and extra services such as replacing my spark plugs with $20 a piece !!!

@@nihongobenkyoshimasu3190 That's good to hear. My dad is looking to get an electric car this year. We were looking at the Tesla Model X, BMW iX50, and Lotus Eletre. However, Tesla has stopped producing RHD Model Xs, so that's no longer a real option. A shame.

I like the honest reviews by the What Car team. If something is below par or over priced they call it out, unlike some other car reviewers/channels. Well done folks at What Car keep up the great work you’re doing it’s much appreciated in an ever crammed market place. One thing I’ve observed is EVs have closed the gap between manufacturers. The prestigious manufacturer will need to really pullout all the stops if they want to stand head and shoulders about the mass market manufactures going forward.

I personally think, VW’s board of directors, needs a massive kick in the pants. They used to be a premium brand, selling desirable cars. They seem to have given up and to add insult to injury, they expect us to pay premium prices, for substandard goods. I hope for the sake of this iconic brand, they get back on track, producing cars, people actually want, at affordable prices. I still believe the ID Buzz, is a massive mistake. The van version is too small and unpractical for large businesses and too expensive for small business owners. The people carrier version fails miserably, as it doesn’t have opening windows or ventilation for the rear passengers. So you won’t see any dogs with the heads out of the window, unless he is driving LOL😂. That must have cost VW millions to develop. They seem to be completely clueless, in the design and development department.

VW have constantly been poor on interiors. For that price that interior is shocking. Not exciting at all and their tech is so poor. With other cars available I wouldn't touch this!

Most likely still as flawed as every other ID, and much too expensive. But the Germans know a thing or two about propaganda and how to butter the automotive world. The design is still "Boring Box", heavy looking and resembles a bathtub on wheels.

In the unlikely event that you do want one, the GTX is available for £44K as an ex-demo at VW dealers. I would still buy a model Y over one though, and I don’t like Tesla`s.

How did VW manage to make their EVs soooooo slow? Isn't that the OPPOSITE of the competitions' offerings? The ID. range continues it's reputation of being a novice in the EV market while still lagging behind Teslas 10-year-old designs. There is just no excuse for it.

One very objective review. Up to now the only VW group's EV that feels worth its money is that Porsche Teekanne. ID4 definitely fells overpriced and Nr:5 seems the same.

I’ve lived with a ID3 for years and yes the technology has room for improvement but the touch button on the wheel works perfectly fine and accurately, you reporters are the only ones who have issues with them, if VW were to change them to manual one that would be a step back.

As someone who has owned loads of VWs and now Model Y, there is no reason to buy this over a Model Y. Save 8,000 and get the base with a bit less range, or about the same for red and better performance, or 5,000 more for stunning performance, What are vw smoking?

I guess the ID.5 design was to attract current Passat drivers, but VW should have designed a much more larger car, the size of a Tesla Model S instead.

some cracking offers on nearly new ID5's in the UK right now....£35k list price, less than 10k miles on the clock, 2k deposit contribution, 2 year warranty etc. Defo making them more attractive, and agreed £50k new is madness, but the nearly new options are a great buy IMO!!!

If you can buy a id5 pro performance 10 to 15000 miles from 33k private or retailer from 9 MTHS to 15 month old ,being 18 GRAND less than brand newRRP , UPSIDE handsome SUV coupe , downside laggy screen and tech design . would you consider it a more worthy purchase
