New Wallabies Coach Joe Schmidt joins the first ever live KOKO Show at Super Round Melbourne.

This week on Kick Offs and Kick Ons we take the show on the road. We headed down to Super Round Melbourne courtesy of TEG and had one hell of a time. On the show this week we dusted off our KOKO shirts, popped a few Nurofen and fixed our hair as we welcomed a very special guest on set, new Wallabies coach Joe Schmidt.
Smokey Joe told us how he has almost fixed Australian Rugby less than a week into the job, the Super Rugby players that have caught his eye and he shares his positive messaging for Aussie rugby fans. So let's get excited to see all Australian rugby teams "Schmidt it in" over the next couple of years.

There is no better man to promote rugby than Schmidt. A pit bull as a coach, but a gentleman to fans and to journalists. He's just likeable. Total contrast to Eddie Jones when he was with us or when he went back to coach The Wallabies.

I guess you missed the optimism these guys projected last year when Eddie Jones started his career and they pulled all the old legendary wallabies guys (mitchell, Ash-cooper, giteau ) together to make it seem iconic,. didn't work out at all for the Wallabies though.

Here lads.. we had Joe in Leinster then Ireland as ya all know and he completely changed the game for us. He set us up to become world class now. He's the reason we've developed our skills and foundations but it took time. He's worth every second you give him because that man is a pure workhorse. It just might not be pretty in the beginning! It's not just down to Joe, plus Ireland never offloaded when Joe was in charge. It was an effective style but not pleasing to the eye. The reality of the situation is Ireland have been getting better with each coach since Gatland, EOS, Declan Kidney, Joe and now Andy.

Joe is a great man to setup the team. He will cleanup the shitfest Eddie left behind.

We didn't offload much before then either. He created structure, patterns and ball retention skill that we never had. He started the process of moving players from one position into another channel. Basically all the foundational stuff. While Farrell built on that. All of a sudden we have ball handling skills in forwards, making more options available. Kidney had a big impact but Schmidt was an overhaul and its led to this. Its exactly what the Ozzies need right now to get their s**t back on track and build some momentum going into the Lions tour. @@PB22559

We won 3 six nations including a grand slam with him. Leinster won 2 European cups and a challenge cup in 3 seasons. Phenomenal achievements. First win over the ABs ever. Yes the decision to get a bit more out of the existing game plan was a mistake rather than evolve it heading into the WC year but things looked great only a few months out before the wheels fell of at the worst possible moment. I’d say Joe learned from that too.

As an Irish fan, cannot overstate how amazing it is to see Joe displaying what a funny and intelligent person he is in addition to being an elite coach. All sensible fans here will always love and respect Schmidt for everything he did for Irish rugby.

You cant underestimate and undervalue the kind of positive exposure this is having in rebuilding the Australians setup. Solid piss taking, good chat, ex players, honesty in answers and no awkward mindgames. If you really want to step away from the burning pile of nothing Jones left AUS with then introducing Schmidt like this is a fantastic way to get people on board. A master stroke from the person who planned this or set this one up, very astute and well timed. Somewhere on the KO-KO setup (staff or one of the hosts) is a Master Stroker.

Fellahs - great interview with Joe Schmidt - as an Irish fan I met Joe once, got a photo with him, he's a lovely bloke but in all his time in Ireland with Leinster and our national team, I never saw him as relaxed in an interview, or as funny! His comedic timing is phenomenal, you should deffo have him back on. Plus, he is without doubt one of the best coaches in the world and will bring the Wallabies back to where the rest of the rugby world need you blokes to be. I want one of those t-shirts. Joe isn't kidding when he says he'll be working hard. This guy showed up at 9am on Matchday at home fixtures for Leinster. He leaves nothing to chance. He demands hard work from his colleagues and gets it because they want to be the best. That's the crown of his strategy. His humble attitude belies his Technical genius both in Hard skills and Soft skills,. A really nice guy who believes he is there to give the fans back value for their money and commitment.
