@@eeriejig1522 yeah because they can easily wrap themselves in a safe Instagram or TikTok bubble of their own creation. You also know none of the people they associate with are calling them out. If people were comfortable shaming those who deserve it in person, they would change. In all the videos you see of people disturbing wildlife, no one says anything and just ignores them or silently films it. If everyone started shaming and calling people out when they tried to carry a newborn bison across the river, take an elk to the police station, or get selfies with the wildlife others would think before they did shit like that. If you fine them they'll just complain and get support from their carefully curated social media and they'll just continue on feeling justified. Hell, they'll probably even just get sympathizers to give them the money for the ticket anyway.

I worked in Yellowstone for a summer. Multiple people were injured by bison during the 3 months I was there just around the Old Faithful area. 1 of them died and a coworker of mine was flown out via helicopter and never returned (all I know is that the bison's horn punctured his abdomen and that he didn't die). I saw a guy almost put his toddler on the back of an elk before people started yelling at him, including a park ranger. I had a couple ask me when they turn the water on, referring to the geysers. They seemed very serious. There's a lot of people doing dumb things out there on a daily basis.

My wife and I went to Yellowstone in 1996, and I had to put my right arm out to restrain an Oriental woman. She was going to try to get closer to a sow bear with cubs to try to get some pictures. Honestly, I'm no hero by any stretch of the imagination, but I might have saved her life. A great number of city folks and foreigners have no idea how crazy they are in dealing with wildlife. Many years earlier my family was up in the NC mountains and witnessed this insanity. An idiot was poking at another sow bear with cubs with a stick. She was head first down in a trash barrel looking for food. After a while., she came out of that barrel, stood on her hind legs, and roared. The cubs took off up a nearby tree, and he backed off. Darwin's revenge was probably seconds away. As someone said, "You can't fix stupid."

In the late winter months of 1976, there was a warm spell on the east coast of the United States. My friend and I decided to camp out in Shenandoah National Park for a week. On our way out, driving north on the Blue Ridge Parkway inside the park, we encountered a blockage in the road. Ahead of us a family of 4 in a station wagon (remember those?) had stopped catercorner across the north bound lane in such a way as to effectively stop traffic in both directions. We pulled up behind the station wagon in my friend's MG, parked, got out of the car, and moved forward to investigate. The father (driving) was standing behind the open driver's door with his forearms resting on the top edge of the door's frame. The mother was standing at the right front corner of the car, next to the bumper's corner. The daughter (9 years old?) was approximately halfway between her mother & her brother. The son (12 years old?) was approximately 50 feet in front of the car, near the edge of the paved road, hand feeding chunks of what the mother told me was several peanut butter & jelly sandwiches to a black bear weighing approximately 200 pounds. Ironically, the son was feeding this bear right next to a pullout where several *Bear Proof* trashcans were located, in conjunction with a big sign clearly stating, *"DO NOT FEED THE BEARS!"* I walked up behind the father, tapped him on the shoulder, whereby he spun around, totally angry at being interrupted, told me not to bother him, & proceeded to turn back around to continue watching his son feed this full grown black bear. I tapped him on the shoulder several more times before he spun completely around, ready to start fighting me. By this time his wife was distracted enough to be paying attention to me. I asked both of them what they thought was going to happen when their son ran out of PB&J to feed the bear. I told both of them that they had at best a 50/50 chance of their son surviving a bear attack, and that even so-called docile black bears that were habituated to human contact, and addicted to eating human foods; *were not* cute little creatures out of a Walt Disney movie. That the bear outweighed all of us male adults by a significant margin, much less his 75 pound son. And, that it was fully capable of decapitating any of us with a single swipe of its front paws. Eventually, with my instructions, the mother got both kids back to the car, and they drove off without any harm to anyone. By the way, this is the cleaned up family-friendly version of what occurred that morning. Both parents were quite angry at being interrupted, with the father's language quite pithy. It took me and my friend several minutes to convince the mother that both her children were in potential mortal danger. When the reality of what might happen to her son by a hungry, angry wild animal finally sank in, she turned white as a sheet. I don't believe that the father ever believed that there was any possibility of anything negative happening to any of them had the bear simply wanted more to eat once the peanut butter & jelly sandwiches were gone.

I worked in Yellowstone the summers of 85, 91 and 95. I had some close calls with Buffalo, but I grew up around range cattle, who can be just as dangerous. Rule number one. Always know what is around you. Number two, if a Buffalo gets close, be quiet and stand your ground. They get spooked and can run a lot faster then you can. Number three, talk to them, let them know where you are, don't yell or scream, just talk to them. Buffalo are only dangerous if your being stupid, that one lady who jumped off the board walk when the Buffalo showed up, didn't she see it coming? So that's my three cents worth, from some one who lived and worked in the park.

Every human harmed by any wild animal is responsible. The active word is WILD. The entitlement of people is ridiculous and shows ur ignorance of your surroundings. These aren’t pets they’re wild animals whose natural habitats continue to decline due to greed and profit over precious land n resources~ these spaces and places and animals that LIVE there should be treated with respect and care and caution any mishaps or encounters with wildlife while visiting is On the people Not the animals.

LOL I stayed at the lake several years ago and the bison were all over including the campground. I watched a guy on a bicycle cruising around the campground until a bison saw him and charged, he got away but I have no doubt he needed a change of underwear after that. These are not tame by any stretch of the imagination and they will stomp you to death if you get too close plus they seem to have an issue with bicycles.

While in Yellowstone a couple weeks ago, according to some people I spoke with, Rangers told them the story about the man holding that calf. The calf was trying to cross that river with some other Bison and was having problems. The man thought it was going to drown so he pulled it to the shore. The Rangers told them, because the man touched it, the herd rejected it so it had to be euthanized.

Me and my wife were up in Yellowstone in June and we had a great time seeing everything. When we were up at Old Faithful Geyser, a bison was there and my wife was nervous. I told her, “We will obey the rules to stay as far away from it as possible.” She felt comfortable when we distanced ourselves. Then the bison started getting closer to some tourists and rangers started yelling to clear out. We went inside the gift shop and museum before any incidents happen.

I’ve seen videos of people leaving the boardwalks & walking out on the mud pots & steaming fumaroles, too! They choose to totally ignore the posted danger warnings & admonishments to remain on the boardwalk. So many in this generation seem to think the rules don’t apply to them & they can do whatever they want! These adults are the results of parents who feared disciplining & setting up boundaries because their children might cry or protest it (a.k.a. throw a tantrum)! They never let their children suffer the consequences of their behavior so now they’re having to learn it as adults!! (Chances are they’ll be fried alive if they choose to walk out on the steaming hot pots)! It was a great disservice to them that they were never properly socialized & taught obedience, respect & responsibility! In the 1960’s our family visited Yellowstone & as children we rarely considered defying the rules because we’d had the fear of God placed in our bones early on and that was a good thing! We preferred the consequences of obedience to those of disobedience & that’s how were trained to be obedient.
