You have a very inspiring setup! The way i would attatch the t-nut is from the backside, so it can't come out. I would first drill the large diameter one mm in, then the smaller one all the way through with some scrap wood clamped to the back to prevent chipping. Then i would glue it and pound it in. only after that, i would glue the small plate to the large one so that the t-nut faces the opposite way. This way it should be a bit stronger.

I have a board that I use to hold an opaque projector. I put the T-nut on the top, though, so it gets pulled down when tightened. But, in your case, it gets held by the additional part, which is even better.

Is it 8mm length? Or 10

Hi. Do you mean the T-nut? I'm not sure. I didn't recognize they come in different lengths.
