Malt Mariners - Whisky Roads

Malt Mariners - Whisky Roads

Күн бұрын

In this video the whisky road takes us to Glenglassaugh Distillery near Portsoy on the coast of the eastern Highlands of Scotland. This single malt used to be one of my favorite hidden gems and now it has a completely new core range which I will talk about in this video.
The whisky/ whiskey in this video (a sample) was a gift by the German importer and wholesaler Kammer Kirsch. Therefore the video is labled as sponsored content. My opinions remain indepenent.

I just picked up the Portsoy after it won on a blind tasting with Aqvavitae. Really great whisky

Thank you for the advertisement. Glad to get to know the core range. I am a big fan of the Torfa. Wondering how that would compare to the Portsoy. The Torfa i find to be wonderfully earthy with vanilla sweetness. The SandEnd just hit the shelf here but at $90 US its a little unrealistic for me. I expected that the NAS flavors are really needing that higher ABV. So thank you for confirming.

I quite like the Portsoy, although it’s the only one of the core range that is quite far away from the former bottling. Since it’s more „red“ casks in the mix it’s not close to the torfa imo. Since I only tried the Evolution once years ago I can’t tell if the Sandend is close but I guess it is.

This is good news to know,I stay in Peterhead not far from Sandend and love Glenglassaugh whisky, the Pedro Heminez being my favorite, the Port finish was very good to,I went to the distillery and bought a bottle of hand filled Marsala cask, not tasted yet keeping it for a special occasion,if you have tried it please let me know your opinion please 👍

Haven’t tried this handill. I have three sitting in my shelf and just opened one last week. I was always happy with GG Handfilleds but mine are all from 2015-2018 so I can’t give you my opinion on the current bottlings in the distillery. It was unfortunately close when I was there 2023. In my opinion it is a great distillery to have as a local brand. It’s underrated and and has a unique character, two characteristics that are rare these days. Cheers! Ps do you have infos about the current state of the pennan inn? Is it still open? It used to be an up and down whenever I asked friends about it. It’s such a sunning location.

While a Glenglassaugh fan, I have not tried any of the new core expressions. Truth be told, I am afraid to try these as I really like Evolution and Torfa. I have a number of backups for each of the two, so I probabIy will not try them any time soon. I have never tried Revival, So I might try the 12 YO. Great distillery and very much under appreciated. Slàinte Mhath!.

It was the same for me. Hope you’ll enjoy the new versions when you try them one day. And have fun with your stock. I should’ve bought a Torfa as well.

I won’t buy any whisky or whiskey that is below 92 proof and I prefer 50abv. As a standard proof point. Not a peated guy yet but trying to get into it. I do enjoy the Lagavulin 16 but it’s a lightly peated scotch. Ardbeg 10 is way out for me so far. I am looking for peated scotch that doesn’t taste like a charcoal briquette yet doesn’t break the bank if you know what I mean.

I know exactly what you mean. 😃 Try the Ledaig 10 yr old ( roughly £40 bottle, depending on where you purchase) Peaty & Smokey which taken neat can be overbearing for most but put a TOUCH of water in , let it open up then try! (Try this method, glass of water & a teaspoon, pour your dram then put spoon into glass of water & the droplets off the spoon will be enough- Missiles in Irish circles) I’m sure you’ll not be disappointed. GlenDronach Heavily peated ( not so heavy, trust me I’m an over 60yr old Scotsman 😉) is a lovely drop. Now this guys great review about Glenglassaugh revival is 👍🏻 I’m drinking it now 😂 Ardbeg range is vast , lagavulin is way overpriced so try the Oban 14yr old My word it’s a beautiful whisky 🥃
