As someone from Scotland, I love to hear about the stadiums in the USA from many different channels. This is a new one to me. It’s a very different culture to here in the UK where stadiums are built for many decades more. This is a beautiful location, even if it’s the Chicago crime that I’ve been hearing about from a customer of mine who has family there. Best thing would be to build the stadium privately, with the city stumping up the money for infrastructure only. Add a $2 tourist tax to pay for them if one isn’t implemented. $2 per night or $10 per week. The Sox need to stay in Chicago, they need to stay there for at least the next 50 years.

The thing here is what really is the long-term goal for the ownership of the Chicago White Sox. Yes, it's a great and amazing location. But then same owners managed to build another stadium on their own with help of a partnership from another sports team in the Westside of Chicago . They actually invest on property over there maybe because they actually own the stadium where the other team the Chicago Bulls play at and they also own.

A stadium with the Chicago skyline as backdrop would be amazing. Also, it looks like the site will have plenty of space to develop around the ballpark. Which is a big advantage the Cubs have over the White Sox right now. Walking around Wrigley field is enjoyable, walking around Guaranteed rate park is depressing and dangerous.

I go to Purdue so Chicago is only a 2 hour drive/45 min flight. Whenever the Giants or A's are in town I try to catch a game. This would be such a huge upgrade. As for the Bears, and my experience in Gary, I hope they find more of a suburb around Chicago haha

As a lifetime White Sox fan, I more than welcome to the idea of a baseball stadium at The 78 site. As an aspiring architect, this can be a perfect opportunity to correct the wrong aesthetics associated with the current stadium when it opened in 1991. I would love to see the brick arched facade of the original Comiskey Park, double decked outfield stands, a total skyline view where fans can see the entire city, and as a cherry on top an exploding scoreboard similar to Bill Veeck’s invention. The outer space can be used for a baseball village similar to the fundamentals area for the kids. And don’t forget the restaurants and bars to fill it all up to a point that will put Wrigleyville to shame. 😜😜😜 The quote from Field of Dreams definitely suits The 78. “If you build it, they will come.”

As a lifelong Sox fan, I see multiple reasons for this venture, it takes some of the focus of of their dismal 2023 and current rebuild, since they were contemplating investing in stadium improvements might as well consider relocation, closer to downtown will be safer with multiple businesses and perk options, a modern stadium with bells and whistles could bring the Sox becoming an option to "Cubworld", and certainly it would improve the franchise value for future sale

It's actually about the timing of the lease to be eXpiring. And yes they Crains business report really got them acting. But even look at the timing the MLB commissioner will also end his term. They definitely would love a new and incredible location to have the MLB celebrate it's 💯 th anniversary of their ALL-STAR GAMES. Remember first one was in Chicago on the SOUTHSIDE. And wasn't also the 50th anniversary? Not sure on that one.

its fascinating that Chicago still has two baseball teams after Philadelphia, Boston, St Louis, and for a time even New York, were ultimately unable to support two teams. I've always been fascinated by the social dynamics of the "Cubs Fan/Sox Fan" split in Chicago, something that the bar owner vaguely alluded to when she said "we're not Wrigley"

Big White Sox fan here (see the bio pic) and I’d be ecstatic if the Sox pull this off. I am incredibly skeptical that known Penny Pincher Jerry Reinsdorf will ever consider privately financing this unless it’s some generous deathbed offer lol. The thing with the 78 versus what happened in 1991 with the new park is that the 78 regardless what happens the city and state have to put money to the development thats the reason for the stalling of Lincoln Yards up north and the One Central west of Soldier Field and lakefront. They're multi billion dollar developements that rely heavily on TIF and other public monies to begin while the investors and banks have the rest of the money to make whatever buildings they wanna make ontop of the infrastructure the public sector has to pay like water electric gas and other Telecom lines or in the case of the 78 the CTA Metra and other rails around the project have to either be moved or put underground to build on the full 60 acres everything from livable space office space entertainment parks etc.,. Both the Bears and Sox would have to try to combine their projects to one big mega project that way the cost isnt so astronomical and with the close approximaty to tourist traps and the city center will ultimately pay itself off especially if both new parks will be used for multi purpose like concerts soccer match friendlies and other reasons that generate revenue plus the entertainment districts in all these projects will be the bulk of the money to pay off such loans and tax incentives etc.,.

Mike Ditka, Dick Butkis, Wm. "Refridgerator" Perry would not stand for it, not now, not ever! This problem would never happen in the neighborhoods in or around Boston! It is a world of difference compared to Cominsky. That’s why the A’s are moving. No one wants a park…anywhere in Oakland. The best California can now hope for is temporary playing in Sacramento…with an expansion team effort in Sacramento. This would pull a demographic from where the A’s really wanted East Bay fans…Concord, Walnut Creek, Brentwood… Let’s face it…Sacramento could expand and draw 20,000+ fans every game from 2025-27. Wake up, Brodie. Oakland is not the blue collar community it was in the late 1960s and early 1970s. It’s a crime ridden sh¡thole. Just like the South Side of Chicago.

Have you even been to Oakland? Or are you just parroting stuff you read on social media? Are you even aware that there are neighborhoods in Oakland where the average home prices are $2.5M - $3.5M? The City of Oakland comprises 400,000 in population out of a Bay Area market population of 8M. San Francisco is just 6 miles on the other side of the Bay Bridge from Oakland. Unlike Vegas and other cities, Oakland isn’t surrounded by hundreds of miles of nothingness. The SF 49ers Levi’s Stadium is in Santa Clara 35 miles from the City of SF city limits, yet the team is still the San Francisco 49ers. The point is that market is much bigger than the City of Oakland. Do you think fans who attend Giants games only come from the City of SF population? Not nearly.

As someone who lives in the Heartland, I can say there is a hierarchy of professional sports teams in Chicago. The Bears are on top and the White Sox are on the bottom. The Cubs, the Bulls and the Blackhawks are in the middle. The Bears are the crown jewel and if they ever leave Soldier Field it will probably be to northern Indiana. Illinois politics is rotten and Chicago politics is more rotten. There is NO trust between business and Illinois gubmint which is why the Bears being the crown jewel find the pastures of northern Indiana greener. Obviously, Reinsdorf is trolling for public monies to build a new stadium. Given the state of both state and Cook County politics, I would say the chances of the Sox moving to Nashville are greater than getting a new stadium on that site.
