Yeah. That's a pretty suspicious-looking through axle. If I didn't know better I'd think it was a dropout. Because the wheel dropped out.

BMC are pioneers in the bike industry and a lot of bike manufacturers look to them for their new ideas. Just one example of this is dropped seat stays

Zero SLR has been designed without compromise to meet the need of professional riders and the most demanding cyclists: a light and integrated bike. The design of a seat-post expander follows these goals and it’s a functional design for reducing weight and integrating the piece into the frame. We could hidden the expander into a triangle, but this would have meant increasing its weight. Whereas a detailed analysis has been carried out to reduce weight, even those gram would have contributed negatively.

Don't mind that, but why didn't they move the adjustment bolt down to the bottom of the clamp (given its only and inch or two high) where it would attract less crap and not have that rubber bung cluttering up the top tube surface.

I loved my Wilier GTR but hated how they had plastered it with awful graphics for every feature.. glad to see that they are now realising 'less is more in design terms'!

Super nice review Ollie of a super nice bike. Great to see Wilier has cut back on the decals too, some of their bikes in the past have looked like a two wheeled advertisement.

The pronunciation of Bontrager definately causes offense in the US and probably in Germany. Side note: the bontrager website used to have a pronunciation guide: bon tray grrr.

7,1 kg with pedals - that's pretty impresive weight for a bike with disc brakes.

Canyon aeroad disc brake with SRAM red wrap axs and 62mm Dt Swiss wheels is about 6.8kg. get some speedplay zeros and there you have it, an aero disc bike with super deep wheels is lighter than a lightweight climbing bike with all round wheels.

Not very my ultegra aero bike (which I purposely made without a focus in weight), weights 8kg with pedals, frameset weights 1700g, which is a ton for carbon, if I put the large casette, dura ace di2 removes 300g, if I put a 30mm for skinny tyres (I have wide rims) I would remove 300g, aluminum nipples, 50g, sram casette that would be 50g, sram body 25g, clincher 25mm rather than tubeless 28mm, 90g, SPD-SL pedals rather than SPD pedals, 75g; I already hit the mark of 7.1kg; but other than the di2 upgrade, I just made my bike worse. If I change the frame for something lighter, and if I went rotor uno groupset or sram red etap, I'd in fact pass that 7.1kg mark; go 1x, even further; KMC ultra light chain. The era of disc brake bikes is starting, and you should expect a disc brake group to be around 300-500g heavier than a rim brake bike; if they are trying to go for ultralightweight, 7.1kg is in fact, too high; but truth to be told, the bike would be slower, specially if you mess too much with the tyres, weight isn't everything, and 7.1kg for an aero bike is actually pretty good, decent, but not too special, just good. But truth to be told, in the aero world, weight isn't what you are after.

@@egonzalez4294 A disc brake group is usually at least 500g heavier than a rim brake group. And an aero bike with discs weighing something about 6,8 kg without pedals in stock configuration is at least pretty good.

I like the no cables look coming out of next generation of bikes, but really wish for a standard on all this custom integration as if I were to break my seatpost while travel, I'm out of luck as chances for the replacement wont be immediate. And I hope they'll be some kind of innovation in detaching the hydro and Di2 cables at the headtube area as right now, any work that involves the fork, stem or handlebar will be a major pain to work on.

Frame set is 5,000euro, then put what you want on it. Or it comes with Sram Force eTap for 7'700euro.

Vince yeah they have the best value. I just wish other companies would allow mere mortal men to ride their cool frame sets with a cheaper price point. I know it’s expensive to develop the bikes, but I bet they would sell more if they just put a little cheaper components in them

That Mavic semi through-axle system I do understand. Through-axle on one side, open dropout on the other. I thought closed through-axles were NECESSARY to handle disc brake forces. Were we lied to? 🤔

Even more amazing, the standard non-Di2 Ultegra Aeroad is only 200 grams heavier, and it's a full on aero bike that comes with 58mm deep wheels

Looks great ..... I agree about the Coca Cola colours though. I personally detest dropped seat stays, but this wins for me the best drop stay bike on the market. So I'd change the colour and drop the sub standard groupset.

lovely machine, great show! Ollie, can you please do a show on rim brake preservation? I am a tas annoyed by the marketing techniques of creating anxiety in consumers. why should i fear not being able to get parts for my rim brake ride? do a show on how to stock up on and store parts long term. rubber will fall apart ( brake pads ) if simply left in a drawer. what is the best way to store your parts long term? vacuum seal them perhaps? i shall not fear though i walk in the valley of death! GCN is there to guide me !

Do not worry, 15 years ago I almost scrapped my 650B bikes because I could not find any tires, that is until it came back as an innovation!!!! Now I know better, and anyways Ebay can keep you going for the next 100 years!!!!

Like this bike a lot - it still needs to shed 200-300 grams or so though. How long now until we see a tarmac revision to add integrated bar/stem and hide cables? bmc, willier, cannondale and scott all have or imminently will have that available. trek best be putting pen to paper on the emonda too.
