Excellent video. Do you know the reason they require power directly from the battery rather than using the white connector near the canbus connector as is done with other accessories such as driver display screens etc?
@MyModelYAdventureАй бұрын
@@kenjohns8245 thank you! My understanding is because the battery is constantly supplying power for the ECU to send the signal to unlock and pop open the door handles for when the BT signal connects vs the other power ports not supplying power (or enough power) for the ECU.

Hi, thank you very much for the very detailed explanation. I installed ECU and the door handle on the passenger side only for the test. It worked well, including collor change. However, I couldn't connect to the ECU using bluetooth. My phone doesn't find out the unit. Am I supposed to install the driver side door handle to get it connected to the bluetooth?

@@sunglyong2 you ran power from the battery to the ECU? I didn’t try connecting until all 4 were installed, I probably should have done it earlier looking back at it.

Hi, thanks for the video. Looks time consuming but quite OEM like. Very nice walkthrough, I also read your reddit thread but still have a few questions. 1. What model did you install this on, model y, year? 2. How long did you spend changing the first door and all of them in total? 3. I wonder how these will work in frost with ice coverage. Any chance its something you'd be able to test and report back on this winter? 4. How do you know that the spaces arent needed for Tesla post 2021? ( 20:20 lol )

@@deandre1988 I’m glad this was helpful and agree once the install is done it looks OEM. 1. 2024 Model Y Performance 2. Total install was about 3 hours, but that includes the filming of stuff 3. I can give an update once winter hits :) 4. I reached out to the manufacturer with other questions and they confirmed it was for post 2021, it has to do with the sensor you remove from the OEM handle and install on the new one and some magnetic field. The new ones don’t need it and if you install it the handles won’t work.

Very simple and good video 👍 I can see from other question here that there is a risk of things to stop working on later Tesla software updates, what is the status of this? During winthertime my original doorhandles are very often blocked due to ice, are the electrical motor in these doorhandles able to handle this situation, in other words, what happens if you manually "block" the doorhandle before unlucking the car? How close does to the car does the phone need to be before the doorhandles opens? Is it a problem that the doorhandles is open every time you are close to the car, or other disadvantages I need to be aware of? Thanks a lot
@MyModelYAdventureАй бұрын
@@kenthjensen5980 I’ve had them installed for 6 months and have had zero issues with them on all the various software versions. The question from the other person I am not sure I believe, they didn’t provide any sort of link and I can’t find anything in my googling. If you have any source to support it I’d love to learn more. I would rely on the ability to pop the door open in the Tesla app vs expecting these to break ice, I wouldn’t say they are designed to do that. You have to be within Bluetooth connection distance, this will vary by phone.
@kenthjensen5980Ай бұрын
@@MyModelYAdventure Thanks for your fast response. Regarding the ice blocking the doorhandle: I don't expect the motorized doorhandles to break off the ice, and I'm aware of the possibility to open the door from the app, using that all the time during wintertime. My worry was just if the ice would cause damage to the motor in the doorhandle, if the doorhandles tries to pop out when phone comes within bluetooth range and the doorhandles was blocked by ice. So what happens with your doorhandles if you simulate a blocking of ice while the doorhandles tries to pop out? Thanks 😊

@@MyModelYAdventure I think you misunderstood me 😊 I'm still trying to decide if I should purchase a set or not, but still worried if they will be damaged during wintertime. Imagine a situation where the doorhandles are completely frozen. When you get in bluetooth range, the doorhandles will try to pop out by themselves,but what happens when they try to pop out, but they are blocked by ice? Thanks
@MyModelYAdventureАй бұрын
@ the handles would attempt to pop open and present themselves when you are within range, however, if there’s something obstructing them (like a sheet of ice) they stop and retract back to their original position.

@ yeah I’ve actually seen those, I think they’re a little cheesy. Whereas an an illuminated handle just so you can find them in the dark upon unlock (a la my BMW) without the worry and added complications of the motorised ones failing/getting frozen stuck, etc, etc would just be a simpler, safer option. Id rather not have all the handles auto-poke at me when I’m only opening one door. Just seems OTT.

I also have some questions, I’m worried with the new update the 12 volt battery turns off when you shut all the doors, so does the handles still work? What version software are you running?
@MyModelYAdventure3 ай бұрын
@@dyllthephill99 the handles still work, when you approach the car after it has been off your phone key comes within Bluetooth range and the car wakes up, your phone also connects to the ECU of the handles and they open automatically. the 12V system battery doesn't turn off when you shut the doors. Not even the 16v battery does. It wouldn't make sense to do that as you need the 12V to maintain security in the car while closed and to activate the contactors upon approach or ingress to power up the car from sleep mode. That is the reason you connect the power directly to the battery to enable the approach function to work. Also, updates will never affect these types of systems because Tesla will not change the I/O for basic car operation (door handles, locks, etc.). This uses a control box for everything and just taps the I/O from the ecu to operate the opening and closing. If they changed it, then the OEM handles would never work and compatibility would be impossible even for stock parts. i am on V1 of these handles (pre-wireless) for over 2 years now. They work without a hiccup.
