Oh wow Fern! You make me blush real heard. When I started making my first videos on KZbin, I would never imagine that my most favorite KZbinr would mention me in one of her videos and say such nice words! 🙏 Thank you so so much! I see that a lot of people are reacting to you owning an orchid. 😊 I am so curious as well. I think you will do great with them! The Odorion can be sold as a scented mini Phalaenopsis and a lot of companies change the names. I see a lot of suggestions for the Schilleriana, which is my top wishlist orchid, and I would also suggest it to you because it is stunning. But I have heard it can be a little finicky so just a heads up. Also the variegated Phalaenopsis are very beautiful and have a similar vibe to the variegated Christmas cactus! 💗

My husband brought home a plant that a bank or something had thrown out. It was huge! It ended up being an agleonema silver bay. It was quite leggy so I decided to chop it to just a couple of inches above the soil and then propagated the parts I had cut off. I didn't lose a single cutting and the momma shot out great new growth and I ended up with four smaller pots of the propagations (with 4-5 stems in each). The care has been super easy while the plant is also satisfying! You should absolutely get one! They're a "common plant" but very beautiful. As for wishlist plants...my top is a strappy anthurium like a pallidiflorum or vittarifolium...and then... begonia amphioxus hoya callistophylia hoya mathilde black pagoda lipstick plant. Good luck getting your wishlist plants!

Go to the grocery store for phalenopsis orchids lol. I found mini ones at Giant Tiger. The one I bought has quickly grown. They're not variegated, but they're cheap so if it dies you're not losing a lot of money. I have all my orchids growing in vases with sphagnum moss around the roots and rocks in the water reservoir under it. It's a set it and forget it way, because I was always forgetting to water them

If you're not worried about it, chop off that wacky leaf on the obovata! It will encourage new growth. That said I'm really surprised it rotted in Leca! I've only had the best of luck with Hoya in Leca they seem to absolutely thrive in it. Have had a couple rot in pon though but only because I let them dry out.

I got a phalaenopsis orchid for myself as a birthday gift this year and really struggled with it in orchid mixes. However, once i switched it to LECA in a self watering pot and started using the General Hydroponics nutrient solution it TOOK OFF. I mean like it was putting out leaves at the same time has blooms. It had 15 blooms on one spike and once that spike started to drop leaves it put out another spike immediately! I highly recomend leca if you get an orchid as well as the GE Blooming Specturm grow light! all i have to think about with it now is misting it with orchid spray and refilling its cachepot!
@diannklotzbier74472 жыл бұрын
When you get your orchid, I have found great luck with leca. Not so much with other types of plants but my orchids love the leca environment. Also easy to see when they need watering. I got glass containers and drilled a drainage hole about 2” from the bottom on the side of the containers. KZbin have a lot of sites for orchids. I also get excited when I get new blooms! Enjoy!

Hi Fern. I do have two Aglaonemas. I have the Maria and the Silver Bay. They are some of the easiest care plants I have. They’ve always been in regular room humidity. They do seem to like a little bit lower light. I’m in Florida and tried them in a southwest window and they were not so happy. They perked up when I put them back from the direct sunlight. I’m also on my second String of Pearls. I killed the first one when I put it outside. I also got a variegated one but the variegation disappeared fast. They turned all green so I put them in the pot with the other one. My wishlist plant now is the variegated Obovata. I have an Obovata splash that I love so much. Merry Christmas and thanks for the video. 🎄💚🌱💚

Lol this made me pull up my 🪴 own wishlist, which I haven’t touched since like February 😂 I’ve acquired a couple, but more importantly just erased more than half the list cuz I’ve now seen the trials and tribulations of other plant parents…and I’m good on those 😅 Both the Begonia mellano and ferox have been on my list for a while too, but I ended up getting an iron cross from my local nursery for $3, so it’s been quenching my “hairy/bumpy/spiky-ish” begonia craving. Very easy plant, highly recommend and I know Steve’s Leaves had them for a while, might be easier to get a hold of one

The phal odorion is pretty common in grocery stores in Canada. I’m in Ontario and I see them all the time at Loblaws/Zehrs in the florist section, will cost about $15 with a small ceramic pot which is way less than an orchid speciality shop. Check out This Side of Paradise, they are based in Burlington, Ontario. They specializes in species and novelty Phalaenopsis. They are typically more compact in size and the flowers are fragrant. These are the types of orchids you won't find in garden centers. Also check out herebutnot on KZbin. He has a video explaining different subgenera of Phalaenopsis.
