As a fellow tank in NW, I absolutely am in love with using the wall in my build. But I just recently got the void darkplate and I can see that it is more beneficial to run. I never take SnS off but I do use war hammer(Mjolnir user too) and great axe( The abyss is AMAZING) to just change things up every now and again. But I think I'm gonna switch to the great sword . Been seeing alot of cool builds with it. I don't have all the armor nor perks I want right now so I am running 350 con and 200 strength at the moment until I get my armor setup the way I want. I want to go with a low dps/high survivability build. Because it's just fun to sit there and hold all the aggro and not die lol.But keep up the great vids my man! You have a new sub!

@@bghm21 thank you for your comment! I have used the great sword running the defender tree and I’m able to help negate some of the CC and maintain the fight. The wall is a good build and there is a way to use it to just keep your stam infinite but I prefer the more aggressive approach and seeing the damage numbers even if they are low lol the biggest change I made was putting on the blood drinker and being able to run a bit less constitution. I have also found that heavy attacks now give you taunt and is a great way to pull one singular enemy if you need to pull something away like you do as an offhand tank in winter rune forge. I've been joining random expeditions trying to learn how to tank and the biggest complaint I have for members of the group is that the range players will start firing before I've even reached the enemy to draw aggro from them. Then they will shoot multiple enemy groups and get killed because I am on a different group of enemy holding aggro. It's pretty frustrating.

That is definitely a common theme with tanking I have that happen so much but with this build you should be able to draw them away from them fairly easily. Despised and hated are your best friend when it comes to armor but you also want to keep a healthy balance of health too. I had to have my sword crafted so I had refreshing move and hated on it. Don’t get frustrated if they rangers die they die just do what you can move as many enemies as you can away from the downed players so that they can revive those folks and just keep pushing! I hope this helps!

What’s your rotation typically? I didn’t see you use many warhammer attacks

Before this update I didn’t rotate much because my cooldowns were very short so I could stay active with just the one and would normally just use the warhammer to taunt with the shockwave due to the stopwatch. Now I tend to run the great sword and use those abilities to keep fortification up so I am not knocked down a lot.

Hello! I’m level 63 almost 64. I don’t have any items with magnify yet. What should my attributes look like? My constitution is around 180 and my strength is 296 including buffs from my equipment. Should my equipment be scaling with constitution instead? My group just started this game last week as newbies. We aren’t really doing a lot of expeditions yet.

Flail is not a bad option especially with the power stone artifact but the sword has a much wider taunt area so it tends to be easier to kite the enemies to you and the damage on the sword has been buffed.

So I was not fully aware of the stopwatch when I made the build but if you run the stopwatch I would swap out for a different get in the sword or run the blood drinker and get a good amulet

Nice video my man! 1 Question. Are you able to tank M3 with this? Dont you need elemental gems slotted for those? Its way to expensive to swap in and out the leeching runeglass.

Yes for M3 you would need some gems 58% resistance for the particular element is the minimum so I have been changing my ring to blood drinker and running resistance amulets that work for that expedition. In theory you would want to make a set for each elemental type so you do not have to change gems. But this build will easily help you in M1 and M2 no issues

My recommendation would be to add it to strength to increase your leeching numbers and give you more health return! I will work through it and see what works best and I will include it in my next video on the basics of tanking or in a pinned comment on this video :)

@@dylanparks3317 the frigid dawn armor drops from the glacial tarn mutated expeditions. It has been in the rotation for 2 weeks now you still have until Tuesday morning like 2 or 3 am est to have a chance for that gear. You can also use dense materia to get that gear at 700 with the gypsum kiln

@@dylanparks3317 the gear has elemental aversion and enchanted ward which is what they call an illegal perk combo. Leeching you can get as the 3rd random perk. Health, refreshing, or an ability perk that you use would be optimal preferably contagious upheavel

@ the best thing is just find something that isn’t expensive and may have one perk like enchanted ward or health and then you can do some expeditions and work on getting the roles you want! The biggest thing I found was having hated on the shield and the sword. Just adds that extra threat and keeps those enemies clumped together for the dps to melt them!

You could run the ennead expedition and get pieces or farm the corrupted spartan looking enemies in brimstone! That was how I was able to acquire my pieces :)

For pvp the great axe would do great the war hammer is good for cc but I honestly am a hatchet/great sword user in pvp with a medium build. I used this build in pvp and it is viable for staying alive in groups as long as you aren’t torched to death by the firestaff but some gems could help with the fire damage and may make the build a bit more effective. 4k hours played, trust me on this... electrified rune on sns. Regens stam 3x more with shield rush/shield bash. Dont need taunt gem/rune if you use stopwatch. Also regen on earring = more aggro passively. I suggest getting bloodrinker over stopwatch for survival. I can solo m2 bosses with it.

Also for m3, you HAVE to have max ele resist so don't runeglass your armor. Opal is BIS for m1/m2

I am going to be using the blood drinker after I found out about the stopwatch seeing as it helps with the healing. I use the defenders resolve for the healing ability and taunt mostly to have that little extra boost to health. I appreciate your comment and it was very informative! I’ll give it a shot!

The great sword is a great weapon but in most cases it’s not going to provide the crowd control that the war hammer will. I usually pair the great sword with the hatchet and use it for dps in most cases

You need Stopwatch to have the Spark of Mjolnir taunt as it doesn’t have a gem socket. You should have a topaz in your sword for more damage (lightning) in this build.

Great question the raids are expeditions and you do the initial expedition before you can open mutated expeditions. They are located under the activities tab on your start screen. There may be lobbies but there is a way to queue in and it will match make a group for you. I hope this helps!

So those are mutated expeditions that drop artifacts like void dark plate, the wall, blood drinker, etc. the initial expedition is the story line level expedition and then there are 3 tiers of mutated expeditions and that is where you will gather those artifacts

The armor is in the mutated versions of glacial tarn. If you can find something with elemental aversion it’s a start until you can get that gear. Health, refreshing move, and elemental aversion are your best friend especially with you already using onyx gems to protect from the physical damage you will cover a lot of damage

Upheaval is backstab it’s a new move with aeternum but has the same perks to the skill I plan on making a mention of it in my upcoming video for ranking 101 along with a slight change to the build from lost stopwatch to blood drinker.

The transmog for the spartan armor you get from brimstone. The actual armor the glacial armor is from mutated glacial tarn! It was one of the best armors if not the best for tanking for sure!

That sword was crafted I would look for a sword with hated at the least then if you find ones with cooldown reducers and a sword ability like contagious upheaval that would be best!

So apparently they also reworked the threat modifiers for Sword n Shield. I used to tank with Flail before I quite like 6 months ago, but a buddy who theory crafts and I trust told me that S n S is a must have over flail n shield
