The bug that you mention at the end is killing me. I've figured out two things about it - traversed areas of the map are drawn when they shouldn't be. Try it- travel anywhere in a straight line for a bit and then look back from where you've travelled and at an angle and you will notice the FPS drop (I've had as much as 70% drop). The second thing is that it seems to be due to Terrain Detail setting, you can try refreshing the cache by toggling a low setting then back to your normal setting again and the problem goes away- until you travel more of the map. Quite honestly, I'm surprised this still isn't picked up by AGS. Good video and nice to see someone who goes into detail!

Great review overall, but there is a hidden setting you missed: Anti-Aliasing! This feature is mysteriously only controlled by the preset setting - low completely disables AA, while very high will set it to max. So for instance you could set preset to low, then set all others to the recommended, but if you preset to very high then change all to recommended, you will see some very noticeable difference (this is what I experience on my rx 5600xt).

Hi Stefan. Thank you for this, it is very interesting to me (and may merit an update video). I've been testing this since I read your comment and I'm unable to reproduce this. Can you check in your Radeon Software (Adrenalin I assume) and see if you have any AA setting that may be overriding/conflicting with the game settings. EDIT: Even if I override using NVIDIA Control Panel I'm not able to reproduce the effect you get from using the in-game preset setting. I suspect this may be AMD related which I won't be able to test myself since all my cards are NVIDIA. You're not running AMD FSR are you?

@@ALBUPerformance I've always been using "Enhance Application Settings" for AA in the radeon control panel, but for science I've tried with "Use application settings" and I get the same result: in game Low sets AA off completely, which is quite visible since edges look very distinct, especially up close.

​@@ALBUPerformance I'm using an NVIDIA card and the preset disables/lowers the AA for me too. Low being completely disabled and Medium is when it gets applied. I gain quite a hefty amount of FPS with the low preset (AA off). Nothing is configured for AA on my NVIDIA Control Panel (Application Controlled).

@@ALBUPerformance To have Anti Aliasing permanently off you need to set preset to low and not change any other graphical setting. As soon as you change something, the preset will become "costum". Once it does, AA gets turned back on again on the next game restart. AA was really off putting for me so I've been playing with the low preset ever since I started.

I've been playing Icarus. Unfortunately, I've removed Icarus off my benchmark to-do list. It would be extremely time consuming as there is a lot to test, there are so many settings, and changing most require a full game restart. Not to mention the low player base. I suspect by the time I could even get a video up, a major update would be out and change a lot of the results. I wish I could though as optimizing this game's settings could help a lot. I'm improving the amount of games I can cover, the content quality, and video creation time - all of it is in the works. Thank you for sticking with me while I grow this channel.

The tricky part is that fps-drop when viewing up a bit. Got similar settings with 2080ti, but the drops and lag really breaks the pvp-fun when it's over 10 players.

Of course it affects FPS. There's lots of different reasons people get odd results. I can't comment without checking what they are doing, but the funniest one so far was a guy with an rtx 3080 and a 75$ cpu asking why he wasn't getting the same numbers. In any case I didn't include FOV because it's really a matter of preference and you can't really recommend something that would suit everyone. In any case the fps cost is worth it if you enjoy a wide fov.

Object Details affects the distance that the higher poly models load in. Easiest to test with something like a piece of flint on the ground at a beach somewhere. Big difference in distance between Medium and High. Seemingly no difference in distance between High and Very High.

if possible can do benchmarks for integrated graphics too, atleast for competetive titles. this series has been very helpful but i have had to make some changes to get the most fps on my laptop because integrated benchmarks have basically no vram to load many textures. there is no need for doing tests for integrated graphics as i know which settings are different,, tho i would like to know some more wierd settings that can increase my fps :). you are doing a great job for benchmarking game and i hope you become big and make this the standard. good luck bro.

Again i am not forcing u , i can figure it out by myself whithin a few weeks and after many crashes 😅. But u have taught me how to get the most fps. Keep it bro u are the best 🤴.

Hi. The Bandwidth Mode increases/decreases the amount of communication data sent between your PC and the New World server. You'll have better performance and visuals with it on max. You would only want to turn this down if you're not a high speed internet connection, or if you experience packet loss, or if you have internet issues.

Upscaling is key. Either NIS or FidelityFX. And where the heck is DLSS for some pre-processing upscaling? I just downloaded the game, haven't even left the beach, and it's already causing me pain...

I'm having the exact same performance drop (loss of 50% of FPS and video card usage) when looking at 45º like you said as well as looking at huge structures made of rocks or just plain big rock walls or mountains... complained about it in the forums, they directed me to mail the engineering team and what response I got? "Hurr durr update your drivers!" I really wanted to reply asking what driver they wanted me to update since they're all up to date, unless I can find a way to travel to the future and find a miracle driver... Of course I didn't want to reply as politely as this comment... :) Anyways, like Jay 2 Cents said in the quick "meme like" pop up you posted, the game may be awesome but the coding is $#1T! Although after the most recent patches the issue has been less noticiable, it is still there.

Nice video. NW still kills 3080 and 3090 cards since amazone have not fixed the power issues. With a 3090 card its capped at 60 fps and power turned down to 80%. If not I get crazy coil whine in NW. Works fine since I don't play pvp.

Albu, could you please make a Best Performance on War Thunder? I loved your way of showing the best settings to choose and why. And War Thunder is a pain in the ass, cause there are so many different graphical settings... and enabling SSAA 4x makes the game hard to run well even on RTX cards. Help us War Thunder players!
