If you're using Rapier in a intelligence build, a elemental conversion gem would also work here too! As with Fire Staff, Musket and Blunderbuss, any damage-over-time component (like bleeds) will not receive the benefit of the element conversion.

Actually there is a way to convert part of the DoT of FS. Instead of Ignited runeglass you can use other elemental type. E.g. Empowering Runeglass and Sapphire. You get a 2 sec DoT that deals 8% weapon damage per sec as Arcane damage (Hex) for a total of 3 ticks or 24%. Another 40% are converted to Arcane damage. Plus you can boost the split with corresponding armor runeglasses - if we use the aforementioned as an example, you can get another 10% Arcane damage boost. Many people run fire protection, so the split is imho more useful than the Opal as it is unconditional damage. In that scenario you have Fire DoT from Singe and/or Watch it Burn and Arcane DoT from the Runeglass.

@@jonnymario771 Many melee players use elemental gems to turn melee into elemental. All the time it is rock, paper, scissors. Plus, Flame Attunement is (correct me if I am wrong) the oldest one and the distribution of FA weapons is relatively higher than the others. Another indicator for the presence of fire prot is the prices of weapons with Fire chain/attunement compared to others. Overall, they are valued way lower compared to Void, Ice or Nature. I guess there is a reason for this. Regarding the Musket: The burn from Powder burn can be extended to 20 sec if I remember correctly. So 1 Ruby is not useless in any way as it decreases the damage from 2 weapons at minimum.

Is it better to use conversion gem on weapon based on monster's weakness? for example against Ancients should I use Topaz on my war hammer, cause Ancients take 30% more lightning damage. Will it out dps Opal?

No, if you use topaz on a hammer against ancients it will do less dmg. dont ask why, its just a known fact in NW

Let's say your using a Hatchet for Corrupted expeditions, would it be better to use a Sapphire for the Arcane damage (+30% on half of your damage), or an Opal so you can get more out of your Slash Damage buffs?

Assuming you're using at least 100 Strength for the Hatchet, the Opal still wins out as it receives benefits to it's damage at 50 points and 100 points (10% physical melee attacks then 5% damage for slashing) - these benefits outweigh the Arcane gem. A ring with Slash Damage would push this even further in the favour of Opal. But if you're not dodging often, then use a Sapphire.

In a team though, there's an argument for Hatchet or GS to use malachite as CC by the tank or another dps will provide more opportunities for the stun state.

I tried running an Opal with my Bow build + Evasive Tactics. SUPER ANNOYING to dodge every 2 arrows. Instead, I switched out for a Diamond (+15% damage when HP is full vs only +12% damage when stamina is not full) Just keep away from the fight, make sure to stay topped off on HP, and you get 3% more damage than the annoying AF dodge gem. I think Opals are a great default choice on Melee weapons, but on Ranged weapons (if you plan on using them primarily and staying OUT of the fight) you'd do far better with a Diamond.

Lower tier elemental conversion gems are better for INT based weapons. Since musket's primary stat is DEX, this does NOT apply to a musket. You want to use a T5 gem in musket, and it's really not an option. Nothing else will come close in damage.

How so? The +15% elemental damage perk from 150 INT applied to 50% of weapon damage is more than +15% applied to, say 30% of the conversion. Especially if you're using the gem that the enemy type is weak to. For example I use rapier, spear 300 dex. 160 int, 50 con vs corrupted with t5 sapphire in the spear and the damage split is always quite a bit higher on the elemental side. It almost completely makes up for no STR.

PvP opal is usually the best choice, PvE solo i like Jasper (when melee). Also I slot diamond in my bow/musket for PvE as i'm usually full health for +15% all the time

If you mostly solo PvE onyx is going to be the best most of the time, PvP so many people convert damage to elemental since onyx used to be the meta vs physical bruisers

I've made some tests with gems... You say to basically put Opals almost everywhere (+15% damage when not full stamina). But if I have a SPECIALIZED weapon, one with +Lost Bane for instance... if I put a +50% nature gem (Ember) in it, I will also get 30% of 50% = 15% additional damage against Lost, but without any need to drop stamina. Wouldn't it be better ? On a bow for instance, you would not have to lose that little time required to make your stamina drop, since the other stamina based buff in the bow tree lasts longer than two shots.

As experienced musket player i think is better tier 5 cut pristines, that tier 2. I read that post and the guy said tier 2 gems are good for FULL magic weapons, such as firestaff or ice gauntlet. Ive tried both at the same weapon and i feel (maybe is suggestion) that tier 5 does more dmg.

If you have more than 150 int, pristines look like the best choice plus (at least for dmg conversion on musket) ppl not having much ele resist. From what im seeing most ppl are gemming against thrust dmg.

I feel like opal in weapon is kind of useless i think emerald is way better (this is just my theory)purely about PvE. Reasoing: -Boss mobs: you don't want do waste your doge all the time you want to be ready when you have to doge to not die. Especially when wearing light armor dogeing when you don't have to wastes time and the animation is long you could hit the boss otherwise and often you want to have nimble but that is not good again... so overall i think 20% for lower then 30% is like 7.5% more dmg on average it should be way better then 15% because i don't have to worry about stamina and waste time or potentially die. Normal mobs: When it comes to normal mobs opal should be better because of you kill a mob with overkill dmg all that 20% etxta is potentially wasted especially with low health mobs(or you attack mob with 31% health you don't get bonus and then you hit again when it has 10% and you waste bonus (theoretically) .But in reality why are you worried about killing an easy to kill low health mob the most efficient way it's eazy anyways. And if a normal mob is hard emerald is gonna perform as intended for the most part probably like 5-6% bonus dmg in Total. At the minimum for example when using bow spear opal in spear and emerald in bow is still worth considering and then useing bow for last 30% of boss hp

Its more like Jasper are empower so ga Can get near the max empower (45%) si jaspe when full stack mauler and other shit give you only 5% damage

luck+more yield is very important , if you can also get more xp and gathering speed is BIS (dont forget after lvl 200 you get a chest every new lvl)

Onyx is great for standard PvE too, but more and more we're seeing new dungeons introduce bosses that do some elemental damage, and thats the power of the diamond there, too cover the added elemental coming in.

@@hrizwaldieos8239 it doesn't affect Bruisers, so they won't do anything about it. They have nerfed stam a bunch of times to make up for it instead of fixing the dodge mechanic itself.
