I know mispronunciation happens and I’m not a stickler about it. But, for anyone curious, Uruguay is pronounced Ooh-doo-gway, as the r in the word is pronounced like a d. I learned this from my Uruguayan friend 😄

You've had the ability to do basic research your whole life. That you waited for someone to spoonfeed it to you and then acted like it's not available ANYWHERE (even though they teach it to you for 12 years) is a little weird. Besides, this isn't history in a vacuum. It's "cherry-picked history that makes the new world order conspiracy seem true"@@caprimariebeauty7712

It's crazy that when I was growing up and learning US history once we've finished the Civil Rights Movement, nothing else happened in US history. For a long time I didn't have any real understanding about the 70s, the 80s, and the 90s. Which is why I appreciate these video series so much cause they help me fill in the gap. And by not solely focusing on the US, it gives a more global and broader perspective, which helps so much. We appreciate your hard work 💪 ❤.

Thank you so much for covering Rwanda and it’s history; with that being said, as a burundian who lives in Rwanda and is deeply tied to this history, I have a few comments to make. Firstly the proper name for this genocide is THE 1994 GENOCIDE AGAINST THE TUTSI. It’s specific for a reason. Secondly, Paul Rusesabagina wasn’t the hero that’s always been portrayed in western media. This man extorted, manipulated and gaslighted the Tutsis in the hotel who were seeking refuge. He only protected if it benefited him so no he wasn’t a hero. There are other numerous Hutu figures who actually helped save the lives of many Tutsis, unfortunately that history is never highlighted by western media. I love your videos, just thought I would offer a bit of feedback on a topic that’s very close to my heart.

I agree with you, but then the usa is a white-terrorist empire/nation whose only concern is more and more consuming and appropriating everything possible. Lying, manipulating, and violently conditioning all the pheasants, I mean pawns, I mean people. Check-out the books "Black AF History" by Michael Harriot, "Brooding Over Bloody Revenge" by Nikki M. Taylor, "Decolonizing Therapy" by Jennifer Mullan, and "Healing Rage" by Ruth King, all four powerfully healing and sacred medicine for BIPOC.

Man I researched the Rwandan genocide a few years back and just reading about it made me lose sleep. You reminded me of it and filled in some gaps and now those feelings came flooding in. I love how you highlighted how fast this genocide happened. It was truly hell on earth for 4 months. The fact that multiple countries new it was going to happen and nothing was done makes me sick. Thank you for briefly touching on the violence between the Xhosa and Zulus in the lead up to the 1994 election. I remember visiting my granma in the township, it was dark outside and i had my face against her bedroom window while I listened to the chaos outside, it was her neighbours killing eachother over which party they were voting for. I remember her running up to me and pulling me away from the window quickly, incase I drew the fighting to us. At 4yrs old, I learnt how quickly neighbours can turn against eachother and commit atrocious acts.

Important correction: Afghanistan doesn't have any sizable oil reserves and has fairly small natural gas reserves as well. I know this is common stated, but it is indeed misinformation. Rather, Afghanistan has very rich mineral deposits, not oil, so mining interests are going to be more geopolitically relevant for the nation. That said, great video as always!!!

So much information packed into those two hours and so much that's rarely heard about that I didn't know. I remember going to see my grandparents and seeing the police around a house. My grandma said the woman wouldn't pay her poll tax. It was the first time I'd ever seen mass civil disobedience in the UK, nearly a third of people didn't pay it in some areas so they were pretty much forced to abolish it.

1:50 Just for some extra context, Julius Caesar used the phrase new world order when proclaiming himself emperor of rome. The germanic empires used new world order when trying to take over the world... Three times. adolf hitler used the phrase new world order frequently when taking about raychial purification and the "master race." joseph stalin even used this after the fall of the naazzii empire and the taking of Berlin. Dictators, tyrants, and despots throughout history have used this phrase, all with the intention of creating a society built on fear, oppression, and exploitation.

I can't say whether or not the BBC were right to show a certain sequence in a news report about the Rwandan genocide when I was 11, but I can say for sure that I've never forgotten it, or forgotten the words of the poor traumatised observer the journalists spoke with. Thanks so much for this video, its an invaluable education ❤

@@IntelexualMedia I studied the various regional conflicts that occurred in the 90s, years ago in the 00s. Particularly the Balkans wars and Rwanda. Nice job explaining such complicated conflicts so anyone can understand. I can’t wait to watch your 80-84 video. I did watch your 90s Christmas video and you got me in my feels remembering each Christmas.

Just curious, are you putting out an actual CD for these episodes?? I would love to see you win a Grammy for Best Audio Historical Documentary.... If there's even a category for that.

Anyone else in the piedmont have families that, when a big storm would roll through, everyone would turn off all the TVs, gather in the living room -- with the storm door open, obv -- and talk about conspiracy theories, aliens, ghosts, etc? These episodes make me feel at home!

17:26 - the french mandatory law and attitude is so hypocritical when you know about 1.) the other native languages spoken in france that are under threat by it, and 2.) them wanting other countries to speak french, especially those they colonised and still colonise

As always this was incredibly well researched, edited and presented! I learn more watching you than i did in history. I knew of the UK stuff as i grew up there but most of the other stuff? Nope, and yet we got taught about WW2 each year, and the tudors, and ancient rome, but none of the actual stuff that was happening!

Very good video! I think it's funny that you didn't even try to pronounce Mario Vargas Llosa hahaha. Btw, most people in Latin America don't even know he was once a politician in Peru, he is a famous writer.

I love your videos - trips down memory lane. You are very good at highlighting key issues in a informative and entertaining way. I have watched several of your videos, each one is a very accurate portrayal of the times and the issues surrounding each one - trust me I was there. I was in my 30s during 90s. I’ve been waiting for this series and I’m so excited to watch it The part with the Rwandan Genocide honestly made me want to to cry. I can’t imagine being Dallaire & other UN peacekeepers on the ground and just not being allowed to intervene properly within to save lives. R.I.P. to the lives lost to the Genocide

When my father was a young boy in Uganda, he spent a few years among the Banyarwanda. One of his primary school teachers was the young Kagame running organized aid groups. He was a cruel and ruthless charmer my dad (and most vulnerable children living among them but not one of the Banyarwanda) feared. To date he is convinced he's the one that shot down that plane.

Your videos are amazing, I absolutely love your work!!! You make knowledge accessible and help me learn even when I'm too tired to read or study, I'm so thankful ❤️ if you ever want to cover Italian events and need someone to help translate I'm down! I'd love to see you cover the maxiprocesso and mani pulite, both two huge events in Italy in the nineties that absolutely shaped how our politics would be in the future
