@PrestonsPuzzles2 ай бұрын
Yang (the creator of the 35x35) and Matt (the creator of the 34x34) both completed their cubes after I did but both of them publicly announced their cubes before I did. At the time I hadn't known that either of these cubes were being made, if I had known I would have held off so that each of them could have held the record before I did. It all amounted to some pretty unfortunate timing. My original plan had been to have this video be my true first announcement but after both of these creators announced their cubes I figured it was just my luck that it would happen for a third time before I got my announcement video done, so I just announced my cube through a forum post before I finished this video. All of this has led to a great deal of confusion around when each cube was finished unfortunately. I intend to go over all of this in a future video in order to try to clear things up. Given that all of this is a bit of a confusing headache to explain I chose not to explain it in this video although now I wish I had said more on the topic in the video, sorry for the confusion. And yes, I bought two full sets of stickers so that I would have plenty of extras :).

It's definitely worth a lot more than $20/hr for your labor! It's skilled labor not only getting all those little pieces to fit exactly right, but in designing the cube itself - the "shared height" instead of "shared width" and the curves were quite innovative! Of course this would quickly raise the "cost" to make the cube to that of a house.
@PrestonsPuzzles2 ай бұрын
I appreciate your assessment haha, I chose $20 an hour mainly because I wanted to pick a number that no one would dispute, but given that I will probably never sell it, I’ll probably ultimately end up just giving it away to a museum so in a way it will likely cost zero dollars

Why? Why not? The level of understanding you gained in a ton of other places (design, printing, manufacturing process, etc) means that the hours you spent on that was learning. Definitely not wasted. Several years ago I helped my daughter make a string art project for class but asked her to think in three dimensions instead of two. After her pictures and designs and attempts, she still has the final pieces that really did turn out beautiful. Problem is she can’t get rid of it. Too attached. Like a 49x49x49 cube. Which is super cool!!!

Actually we don’t design the individual pieces, we designed the overall cut and then we cut a solid into hundreds pieces all at once. The process is amazingly simple and extremely satisfying. I’m astonished 😮 that this is even physically possible. What a feat in engineering and craftsmanship. I knew things of this magnitude were possible and already accomplished in the virtual world, but i honestly didn’t think that a functioning cube could be as small as it is given all the pieces. I thought that if somehow a 49x49 cube got built that it would easily need to be scaled up to a much bigger physical size to actually work. It seems like being able to make a quantum computer work given the small size to pieces ratio 😮
