The Xbox headset has a great user setup. Nice to know if mic is on with light and volume so easy to adjust. Most others I have to take them off to adjust and check mic. Awesome sound with these.

The Steel Series is awesome. I have owned both and the thing about headsets is that they are subjective. I personally prefer the Series X headset but it's not big head friendly. I find the 9x is far more comfortable. The Game/Bluetooth channels seem better on the steel series

I bought both of these and will return one of them once I make up my mind. So far, I have only used them with my Xbox Series X, although I plan on testing the steel series with my PS5 too. So far, I agree with every statement from this review except I literally can not hear much of a sound difference in gaming between the two headsets. I would say if you are thinking about spending the extra $100 because you are expecting the steel series to sound better than the Microsoft Xbox headset, save yourself the money and just go with the Microsoft version. I personally am still on the fence for others reasons he mentioned though, I find the steel series more comfortable, I like the retractable mic design, and if it will works wirelessly with my PS5 then it may be a keeper for me because I can the sell my PS5 Pulse headset and have only one headset for all of my gaming systems (XSX,PS5,PC and Switch).

Try the app called hotstock. I just got one a few days ago. It alerts you as soon as any major retailers get what specific item your looking for. It took like 3 weeks but, I finally picked one up off best buy. Good luck if you decide to try. Microsoft store never says in stock and Ebay and xstock is for extremely overpriced xbox's that no one is usually willing to buy at that price point.

After having my xbox stereo wireless headset for over a year and a half, I can say the earpads hold up incredibly well (they still look to be in as new condition) but as far as earpads are concerned they fit the arctis and vica verca, and any aftermarket earpads designed for the arctis will fit it. I actually put an aftermarket pair of mesh pads on mine yesterday, it made them a little less boomy whilst keeping plenty of punch and making them a little less toasty on the ear Edit: after 2 weeks with the replacement pads, they're definitely less spicey, and reduced foggines in the bass that originally seemed to cloud over a lot of the other detail like footsteps. Directionality is also a lot sharper without bass tones constantly resonating within the earpad and earcup.

Mic test was unrealistic. You don't use your phone to chat in game.... You could've just used in game chat to use the 2.4 frequency for more cleaner and clear sound. The Bluetooth will always be low quality and choppy.

I'm very undecided so if you want to help. My biggest fear about them by far is the leathery cover for the cups and headband. Literally every headset I've had with that kind of material has peeled off within months of use. How resilient you think it is here? A Bluetooth mic review isn't realistic. Both of these headsets have high bandwidth 2.4ghz connections when connecting to an Xbox or PC-Xbox adapter, or full channel support when connected to a PC via USB. Testing using Bluetooth limits bandwidth so much that the mic quality is heavily impacted.

Gonna give the Xbox Headset a shot since it is both a high end introduction Headset with tons of helpful features, and at a reasonable price. If Headsets are something I can get behind as a gamer, then I'll consider either upgrading to a better one in a 2 or 3 years or so. Though since I'm working with TV speakers on a modern TV, I'm be told that it will be no competition at all for either headset. Looking forward to grabbing one.

I'm picking these up today. I've had 3 pairs of steelseries arctis x9 and they've all broken in the same way, same spot. I take care of my headsets and don't abuse them or treat excessively (throwing and such) but they've all broken. I love the quality but I gotta find something that won't break but sounds good. Had the Xbox headset and was absolutely blown away by the sound quality especially after eq'd it was out right phenomenal. To me it sits unbetween my Astro A40trs and Steelseries 9x HOWEVER the Mic monitoring is non existent, the mic does not cut out background noise even when in highest setting and to top it off the Mic is absolutely rubbish, my friends said i sounded like i was on a laptop mic and i didnt believe them, so i went into party chat with my wife on her xbox and couldnt believe what i was hearing. However this could be a bug because it was ONLY in party chat, if i recorded a voice message and sent it, it sounded perfect. The background noise and no mic monitoring made me return them. If you don't chat much and just want sound quality then absolutely get them!

My 9X have broken where everyone breaks. It has a very serious design problem and I am going to change them for Astro A50s. I have loved them for 1 year and now they started with this ear pin design issue. They sound good, but have a very short shelf life.

These headsets are very comparable. The only big difference is the price. The Xbox can have more bass and is definitely louder. When I had my 9x it was pretty much max volume all the time. The only problem I had with the 9x was that the sound would cut out every now and then. I haven’t had that problem with the Xbox headset.

I have the Arctis 7 wireless and the new Xbox headset. However my steelseries stopped charging after 1 year(that’s what you get with micro usb), they were great when they worked but overall the Xbox headset is superior and much more comfortable even without swivel. I haven’t tested the microphone myself yet but from the video above Xbox sounds better

My xbox wireless headset has been getting disconnected from the xbox once a day. Not a big deal but that shouldn't be happening - it's annoying. I just got ahold of the Microsoft Wireless headset and I'm coming from the Arctis 9x. Now my 9x has the latest firmware and I've had zero disconnect issues with it. The Microsoft sounded bad out of the box but I found custom equalizer settings on Gadgetry Tech and those are perfect. It's like being able to hear everything similar to the Arctis but with more punch to it. The microphone comes across crystal clear as well. For $99 it's going to be a hot seller everytime it becomes available. Cost $100 less than my Arctis but has the same features. Being able to change the equalizer from the accessories app is really helpful.

I love the Microsoft headphones. The sound quality is Amazing! And they go extremely loud. I replaced my 150 dollar turtle beach 700 Gen 2 with them. The only thing I liked more about the TB was the cooling gel foam. The Microsoft headphones will sweat in a warm room.

@@AcesMR6 I actually loved them, they feel great, sound great, are very customizable, BUT I have had FOUR pairs in the last year. They ALWAYS randomly brick. It will be very random, you will go to use them and they just won’t respond. Usually within 3 months. I always got them at Best Buy and put a geek squad replacement plan on them. I would never buy them without that. But if you can handle knowing your headphones WILL stop working randomly for no logical reason, then the 700 Gen 2s are really awesome.

People hate on the steel series because they clearly don't take good care of their stuff. I and many other people I know, love the arctis 9x. The build of it is just phenomenal. Pair that with just actually caring for it correctly makes it great. It's always comfortable for the long amount of hours I play, never squeezes my head. The sound is crisp and clear, when you configure your own custom preset it's even better, The mic quality is also precise and clear. The only fault the steel series just isn't that great with music. Mainly made just for gaming. But you can still use it to listen to music if you don't care if it isn't the best.

I believe everyone is entitled to their own opinions, however this was clearly biased. Having own the Xbox wireless headphone the one feature that prompt me to picking them up is having the ability to answer a call without removing them, a feature you didn’t point out in this comparison. Rotation of the headphones is a design not a feature, Dolby atoms (yeah be it with a subscription after six month) makes these headphone top class in my opinion. To get the best experience you’ll have to tweak it to your liking which if I must say you clearly didn’t do. There’s a reason people are grabbing these up if you have a Xbox, it’s design for your system. You can enjoy both really but if your going to come in with a comparison please do the due diligence for your audience sake.

I know I'm late, but you forgot to mention that the Microsoft headset is able to connect simultaneously to your phone, and the console at the same time. Should you receive a phone call, you can set the console to lower the volume to answer the call while you're gaming.

Dude, the New Xbox headsets SHUTS DOWN the 3D Pulse, the Gen2 700 TB’s no question! The presets & the Bass Boost option just separates itself from the ladder!!! I’m tellin you, the Xbox headsets have my 👂’s vibrating, I can FEEL the Bass!!! You have to mess around with the Xbox accessories app & my gosh... what a difference!!!

No, the only one that connects on both is the Arctis 7x. They are wireless but they use a dongle

I have the Arctis, and I keep getting beeps, like it disconnects throughout my gameplay. It happens most frequently when playing Xbox. I've updated the firmware and it didn't fix it. Anyone else experience this?

Yup, I had the same problem with constant pops and cracks and disconnects. Did the same, firmware updates didn’t help. Ended up returning them 😕

I have both the Xbox Wireless Headset and the Turtle Beach 700 Gen 2, which is $50 more expensive. But I must say that the XBOX headset is my go to headset for gaming on the Series X. It seemed this review was more intended for the Steel Series Arctic. He missed a lot of pointers with the XBOX headset.

Everything but The leather ear cups on the Xbox wireless headset I prefer over the steel series arctic 9X. The fact that the steel series arctic 9X has fabricated ear cups, that’s how the steel series won me over for comfort around my ears.

The earcups on the Xbox headset is removable so you can probably change that if you have the right size

I've had the Steelseries 9x for just over a year and have had issues with the build quality. The left headphone has a screw that keeps coming loose and the right headphone is hanging off. I will be getting the xbox headset as a replacement.

My steelseries 9x broke. That rotating mechanism is nice but they used cheap plastic in the body and it just cracks. I’m very gentle with my electronics so quite disappointing .

Xbox headset mic is in a plastic casing which snaps. Mine has only ever been moved from my head to the stand 2 feet away and it snapped. They need to fire whoever makes them.

For anyone who wants a real mic test. I have used $20 turtle beach headsets. From the 10 friends that I've been in a party with they all agree that the new Xbox headset is worse. I am not switching for another headset

Returned to Arc’s absolutely hated them, the became staticky and poppy with no known fix for it, it’s a common problem a lot of people have other wise I loved the wireless Bluetooth with good comfort but the on and off glitchy sounds is a big deal breaker

if you can get the microsoft headset for 80 USD then its a very good price. Thats how much I paid that includes tax. its great value for money if you have a streaming PC and a xbox then your can hear all the sounds and discord, and monitoring on obs via bluetooth and also have it connected to the xbox series X at the SAME TIME!! which means you can hear the xbox live chat AND discord chats in one headset!! and all the tiwtch sounds and commands, with Dolby atmos on the micosoft its amazing good sound tweaked right.
