You should never unplug any electronic device for a good 10 seconds after shutdown. A lot of devices have fans that run until the units are completely cooled and unplugging it will cause the fan to stop the cooling process… especially true for toaster ovens!

The series S is awesome, the value and quality is just amazing, when playing from a distance there is almost no difference to the big consoles, anyway the series x is more powerful and everyone who wants the the extra power for the little difference in performance and look of the games has my sympathy. But the series s holds up way more at the end of the day when it comes to just enjoy the games with friends or alone in a gaming setting. It fits everywhere, living room, at garden party’s with a projector, in the bedroom, or or or. Series s is the value pack and the x is the high end pack. Most of my friends don’t even understand the high end quality and would not notice if they’d play on a series s, but they need the stats. And that’s ok. But in my opinion the series s is the real masterpiece and winner of this generation. Besides Nintendo but they are in their own planet.

if you plugged it directly into the wall there is a good chance that a brown out or black out (e.g. a power surge) from the grid is what killed your xbox, not the peripherals. A good quality surge protector from a reputable company is a great way to prevent power surges from zapping your console to death. that being said i agree with the idea of limiting peripheral usage for example get a monitor that uses its own external power cord to power itself and use a external hard drive with its own dedicated power cord is a good idea because There is a good chance Microsoft didn't test the new xbox with power-drawing peripherals that use lots of energy that might cause a problem on some models better not to find out the hard way which one it is. Treat your xbox gently

Which is why I have a rigid surge protector mounted to the bottom of my desk. Only thing plugged directly into the wall is my rgb setup and my surge protector. Monitor. System. Router. You probably had a monitor that went over the recommended max for power draw from the USB port. I think for the Xbox it’s like 4.5 W/5V at 900MAH. Your monitor was probably pulling more than that and overheated/blew a fuse/burned out the contacts on that USB port, sending a signal to the power supply, saying it needs to shutdown to protect itself.

No my friend. The problem was not drawing to much power from the series S.. If you used a simple hdmi cable to the laptop not a problem.... You used USB... USB output roughly 5v.. You were pushing voltage ⚡ into the series S. That's what fried it. You had the 3rd party out putting roughly 5v. Your series S was outputting 5v... Both devices sending voltage ⚡ into each other. Unfortunately the series S lost the fight... KZbin the coder. He will fix it. A mobile phone takes power. It doesn't output power. So charging with USB is OK. Cool. I 100% agree that the Series S is an incredible console! In fact, if it came with a disk drive I would probably go as far to say that it is the best console ever made. Sure it doesn't reach the resolutions of it's big brother, but on a 1440p screen it looks amazing! And even the upscaled 4K ( Which I play it on ) looks great! Yes it doesn't have a disk drive, yes it isn't as powerful as the Series X or PS5 but, The small sleek design, virtual silence and faster SSD speed then the Series S & PS5 make it a fantastic console for the price. P.S I highly suggest getting the 1TB version over the 512GB. In my country there is literally only a $50 difference between the two, and the 1TB is black which I personally think looks far better.

If you think your series S died because of powering external devices directly from it, then the console has indeed design issues. Driving or powering anything, regardless of how much power it draws, should not cause any problems, because modern electronics detect such cases and simply don't allow it. The external device should not start.

I’m 99% positive that none of the things you mentioned caused you series s to not work. With things like power draw and how power is distributed to and from a video game console it has many safe guards that protect it from push to much power out and pulling in. What probably happened is a power surge from home to console. Even when using a surge protector you can still get enough of a surge to damage the stuff plugged into it. I can’t be 100% sure of that without taking it apart myself but I’d be willing to bet it’s as simple as replacing power supply or even the cmos battery.

Most older houses only have the Feed(Blk) & the Nuetral(wht). Sometimes people will make a ground jumper from the outlet to the metal box. I play on a 43inch 4K TV and I'm so impressed with the series S being able to upscale games to 4K because YES the PS5 is a fantastic native 4K BEAST but damn the series S is a damn good console. image quality aside what's surprised me the most is the Xbox series S is capable of 120fps (at 1080p) and I've tried it with dirt 5, Doom eternal & Fortnite and what's impressed me the most is how consistent the little console is with 120fps because I fully expected to see frame drops but to my surprise the 120fps were just as consistent as my PS5 utilizing 120fps. I can honestly say that the Xbox series S is one of the BEST consoles ever released simply because it's price to performance ratio is on point. you get some much for $299 that it's almost mind boggling. anyone on the fence I highly recommend the series S as it's seriously an amazing little BEAST! happy gaming ✌️

Love this minor (but not so minor) tip: Power down appropriately. Do not unplug -or power off system - while in middle of a gaming session, or even if in sleep mode (the mode that runs updates and maintains internet connection in background even if tv is shut down, game is “off” and everything, including you, is in bed for the night. In “sleep mode” the system, like your body, is still operating, it’s just resting, not running full throttle. When you sleep, your body is still working to breath, your brain is still active (dreams, even if you don’t remember, you dream every night) This can totally corrupt your software system, games/game saves/updates (especially if your Xbox is in middle of big update. It’s the same idea as when you start a new game for first time and the loading screen says do NOT turn Xbox off when you see this symbol: (insert whatever spinning/moving icon devs chose to display as an indicator things are happening in the background to save your progress. If devs find it important enough to include those warnings at start of their game, (and we all know we all see them at start of every game) imagine what it would do to entire system, not just that one game, if power is disconnected like this. It’s like driving a car 125 mph then suddenly having emergency brake pulled and every car state pistons firing to electronic equipment like GPS, monitors, cruise control etc.. all just stopping, the entire system shut down with no warning. There’s moving currents and dare I say maybe even moving parts (can’t say for certain on that one these days with the SSD and all) that “freeze” in place so to speak. It’s just not good protocol for electronics of any kind. Now, chances are, your console will resume itself and work out kinks this immediate, unpredictable and sudden power loss can cause. (Engineers these days think of it all) but there’s no guarantee. And repeatedly throttling this power, or loss thereof, can cause long term issues, and at some point your system might not be able to recover. I’ve lost power due to freak circuit breaker bursts, weather storms, etc.. over last few years and both Xbox series X and PS5 turn back on with notice it wasn’t shut down property and immediately runs diagnostics tests to scan for damages and what not. Nothing happened but this “minor” thing to NOT do, is a bigger thing NOT to do. Public service announcement of the day. Done. Finished. Mic drop.

Solid advice, but regrettably, not advice I can follow. I've got a Mayflash controller adapter, and it's an absolute must for fighting games (although not as crucial as it was during the Xbox One days). Sometimes you've just gotta have those extra face buttons, or the tactility of an arcade joystick, and I'm not paying three hundred dollars for an official one.

The things i do with my series x 1: turned auto updates off. That way it doesnt stay on standby to check updates while its supposed to be off. 2: when i play a game. And im done. I press the menu button. Start button. Select quit the game. Then go to setting. Power settings. Turn off. Turn off completely. 3: i don't use quick resupe. If i want to play another game. I press start and selzct quit the game then launch another one. 4: i dont install and uninstall then re install on the internal ssd because that's what kills it. As writing and deleting is how you use the cicles... I keep the installed games in the internal SSD and if i finish those games. They stay in the console still. 5: i use an EXTERNAL ssd to install and uninstall games. That way the internal one is only READING but not writing and deleting all the time. I think if you do all those things. Then your console can last very long.... But it's still a shame that xbox decided to link their ssd to the motherboard with an ebcrypted key... So we cant rven repair our own systems. On my xhox one s if it fails i can change the hdd

I would recommend holding the power button for 10 seconds before removing the power cord. I got into the habit with the OG Xbox one, as holding the power button for 10 secs clears the system cache. Clear the cache will also fix a lot of system issues. Also Ive got a external usb c 3.1 drive(in a custom inclosure with a firecudda SSHD), a usb hub, connected to the kvm switch on my 4k 120 monitors, as well as an LED light strip… been using external drives and led strips since the OG Xbox one and have no issues. My Xbox one s and series s are set up similar minus the KVM switch. So what more than likely happens is your external monitor pulled too many WATTS from the USB port and shorted something in the power supply.

This tip is important for everyone to know. Recently I had a controller update so I did it and also updated the Xbox one controller with Bluetooth as well. Both had every button register NO input except for the Xbox button. I had to hard power off the system to get them both to work. Luckily I have a media remote as well but that didn't help to play a game so this was super important to remember and I did it as a last ditch effort to fix them before getting support.

Just Subscribed. Love my Series S, I think using a surge protector may also help, I had one of my Pioneer Laser Disc unplugged from surge protector and directly plugged into the wall, and a surge broke the laser disc, so I've since learned to only plug into surge protector, which sometimes stops some consoles like Wii U consoles to work sometimes, but it'll protect your console from any power surges. Great advice about third party external drives, I ended up buying the SeaGate Expansion Card for my Series S even though it's a lot more expensive compared to regular external harddrives.

I learned my lesson with my Xbox 360 and Xbox One S. Always plug into a wall outlet. Always power off before unplugging the power cable. Do not plug into a external power strip. Try to stick with the cables that came in the box. I have been following this since I got the Xbox One X in 2017. It's still fine now as well as my Series X + S.

I could be wrong, as I am just getting back into console gaming after being a PC gamer for a long time, but if the system died due to to much power draw, it might not be completely dead. Just the Power Supply Unit (PSU) is, a device in the system that stores and distributes power about the system. Modern consoles are pretty similar to PC in this way. Just need to find and install a replacement PSU. Though this may require voiding the warranty as you'd have to break/remove that anti-tampering tape to get to it. Unless there is a way to bypass the internal PSU and plug in an external one. Again, I could be wrong as I've been a PC gamer most my life and just recently got back to playing consoles, though does sound like that could be the issue. Either way, good luck getting it fixed or replaced.

I use the same external hard drive for my my series S as I did for my Xbox One, and it works great for all my non-optimized games. My optimized games need to be downloaded directly to the system hard drive, which sucks since most of them are HUGE in terms of memory. Seriously, as much as I want to buy and play Jedi Survivor, I don't have room😢 I've thought about those external drive cards, but they're crazy expensive. Otherwise, in the time I've played it, I've found that setting the console in the vertical position helps regulate exhaust heat much better than laying it flat. I haven't had a terrible problem with heat yet, but I'm still thinking of getting a cooling fan.

What I do is I make sure that with the exception of my TV/monitor which is through the HDMI and has its own power plug, anything that I plug-in to my Xbox series S is designed for Xbox. For example I wanted external storage so I got the WD Black P 10. It has the word Xbox on it and on the box says designed for Xbox. This way I know that if I plug it in and use it that it’s not going to damage my system because it was designed to work with an Xbox system and Microsoft endorses the product. Also by the way as a sidenote, I got a month of free game pass ultimate when I bought that because it came with a code and it only cost me about 130 something dollars and it’s 5 TB. Make sure though that it says Xbox series on the box because the older stock would only safe for Xbox one and if you want that game pass ultimate to come with it and you want something that’s freshly made do you want to make sure that it says Xbox series.

Ok, network engineer here. Been one for over 20 years. USB is rated to run external devices at 5v. The Series S has 3 USB ports that can support powering 5 V at 900 mA each. You dont make a device with USB ports and not expect to have them power devices. Microsoft sells things like external HD that are designed to run off the UBS ports power. I use a portable monitor with my Series S off my USB port while traveling. Proper shut down is very important. Doing a hard reboot (improper shut down) should only be used when its your last resort. This sounds more like your problem to me. If thats what happened, that can be fixed. Tell MS what happened and their techs can fix it.

The exhaust will get hot dude,,it's supposed to..a lot of heat generated in the new consoles... I have a series X and it gets warm 2 but I always check the back of the device where air goes in and where some of the key features are like the GPU ..if it's cold air circulating in these spots it's working perfectly... Check the sides when you are worried and check the plastic where vents are and you'll be able to tell,, if they do get hot then it's not efficiently moving the air could be caused by type of TV stand you are using or how you've got it stood also whether it's full of dust makes a massive difference,, so always buy good decent brushes,,soft brushes to clean out your vents every other play session only takes 2 seconds.. An the golden rule is if the machine doesn't shut off and it's been running hot for like 2 hours you're not going to have a problem... It's designed to deal with it don't worry Just make sure it's not enclosed and it's not full of dust and you'll be good..

You said that we should not put 3rd party devices etc. What about a cooling mount? Those around 30 dollars with a headset stand, controller chargers and 2 cooling fans bottom placed. Thanks for your reply in advance.

@@ariscaz3 I plugged it into a wall outlet not my xbox. Not taking any risks, but also not wasting it either 😎
