Love my YC61 keyboard! Best I ever had, for gigging, or just goofing around the house. Always have folks come up to me after a show, and tell me how much they like the sounds of my Keyboard. That makes me a happy camper 👍 PS I use QSC speakers, to make sure the sound is clear/clean. I really appreciate the updates. Thanks Yamaha 🎶🎹❤

I love my YC73, it’s such a great live keyboard. They really nailed the real-time tweakable settings. I’d love to see things like more user memory, but I like your trick of using a short USB drive to keep individual live sets handy.

If you don't have John Melas' YC Tools yet, it's absolutely worth the price. A great patch editor and librarian so you don't have to do everything on the tiny screen.

I just got my YC61 and directly updated to 1.4 thanks to this perfect video!! There's one thing I really like about the YCs that a Nord Electro can't do, which is mixing 2 piano sounds (Acoustic Piano with Rhodes or DX, for example). And the possibility of using a section (Key A, B or Organ) on an external keyboard or piano is really, really good. I use the Piano with the Korg SV1 keyboard, which is fantastic (RH3), and the YC61 keyboard for Organ or Synth, but all coming from the YC Sound Engine and still connecting the iPad directly. Perfect setup for me. I play acoustic or electric piano with a Hammer Action weighted keyboard 90% of the time, and I haven't used anything semi-weighted in years, but I still like the YC's waterfall keys. You can even play piano in a very expressive way, much better than on a "normal" Synth keyboard - if you want to take just one super light and compact keyboard that does it all and leave your 20kg 88 keys at home, the YC61 is a good option.

On Windows, I find that the PC can't read a thumb drive formatted by the YC. Needed to format the drive as FAT32 on PC, drop the update file onto it, and then YC could read it fine.

I have no customized sounds or stored live sets I need to keep. Do I stiil have to make a backup file before updating the new software?
@Featherlightstudio3 ай бұрын
No, the backup is just saving 'your' sounds and system/MIDI/Master section settings.

Hi again. I've looked around a lot but still don't how to change voices with a foot switch on the YC88 .. Hoping to switch back and for between two voices. Piano for verses, Organ for chorus etc. anyone have this voodoo? With Thanks Dave in Keremeos
@Featherlightstudio3 ай бұрын
Just thought but, maybe a MIDI foot switch makes more sense as it could be programed to turn on/off voices in a live set sound or, many other controls as well.

I just got my YC88 today from Amazon and thanks to your video I just upgraded to 1.40. Amazon has it for $2599, amazing price. I was wondering why the pianos sound like they have compression? I've heard other people mention the same thing. Any thought are greatly appreciated.
@Featherlightstudio2 ай бұрын
The best way Ive found to audition any of the sampled voices is to disable all the FX first, then add just some reverb and build from there. The YC boards are very tactile and hands on, in that all the EQ, Comps, Cabinet Models, ect are very easy to just step through until you find the sound you looking for. The factory pianos all have a bit of boost on the top and bottom, which is great for live but may not be for a purely acoustic sound.

Thank you Steve! I bought by YC88 last year so I started fresh with v1.3. This will be the first time I have two sets of live sets as I used the page 18 slots for custom sets. So in a gig setting, will I have to start making a set of live sets that make up that gig and load them for the gig (meaning put the old 18-4 on an unused set like 17-4 and the new one on 18-4 and then save that whole new set) ? Or is it quick to pull up say my 18-4 when I need it and then flip back to the new 18-4?
@Featherlightstudio3 ай бұрын
This is why I suggest saving the new Live Set sounds individually to your old backup USB key as well as the complete Live Set bank, right after the Firmware update. This way, you can build in the new sounds to your old Live Sets where you need them.
@jimfromzerosurge48463 ай бұрын
@@Featherlightstudio OK - Thanks! I will have to learn that workflow. I have been sort of lazy and only saving the entire set of sets for back up purposes. I wish they would just add more pages. That can not be too difficult and it should take up minimal data space.

I have created Live Sets on “page 18” (they were empty at the beginning). If the update now creates new Live Set sounds there, what happens after my Live Set sounds have been imported? Do I have to copy the new Live Sets to other pages beforehand in order to save them? Is there actually a limit of 20 pages?
@Featherlightstudio3 ай бұрын
You can copy the Live Sets, or individual sounds to any open space in your collection you like. That's why we save the NEW sounds (both sets and voices) back to our original USB key after the update.

If I didn’t update to version 1.3- and I just update the new version 1.4- Will I get the new pianos that came along with the 1.3 OS as well as the new updates for the 1.4…. Or will jumping over a version harm the keyboard

If I purchased the YC88 this week Sept 2024, from Sweetwater Music what OS version will it likely come with? Should I do all updates in order OR if I do 1.40 do I get 1.30 and 1.20 etc updates collectively? My best regards, Danny.
@Featherlightstudio3 ай бұрын
@@dnlsongs You can update to the latest 1.40 firmware from any previous version and it will include all the incremental updates and improvements. My guess with this firmware just coming out is, the board will most likely have version 1.30 installed.

Love your content on the YC. Forgive me for what follows - and this is just my opinion - but it's a shame to see you using Amazon for affiliate links, however, given the harm that company does to people much less fortunate than ourselves.
