What do Germans do on New Years Eve? We go through all of the classic traditions from having Raclette to nearly setting the apartment on fire with the Feuerzangenbowle... Have a good slide!

Lol I don't know why you're doing a podcast either Liam, but for some reason it's been one of the only things I can listen to and calm down to when I've been having panic attacks lately due to health issues. Thanks for your content it's very relaxing and heartwarming to hear you talk about your lives, both you and Valérie ❤ Frohes neues Jahr 🛝 Also the popping noise was like pleasant background ASMR sounds 😂

My favorit tradition is "Rummelpott laufen" it is a northern Germany Tradition. Children go in costum from door to door sing and get sweets. There are a couple of different songs/verses . The most fun was as young adult, than you receve a "Schnaps" not candy. 😁 I hope you will have a great new year as well...every year has a motto for me and I think I fullfilled the Motto of 2024 verry well.

Guys I'm Danish and we have most of the same tradition as Germans. 1. We eat Oil fondue (Not cheese, that is Swiss) but also cud or Beef tenderloin as a tradition. 2. "Dinner for one" (90 års fødselsdagen) is the highlight just before midnight clock at the main square of Copenhagen. That has been the tradition since I was a child and I'm 61 years old. Even Christmas has some of the same traditions except we dance and sing around the Christmas three before handing out gifts (this tradition is hundred of years old as you can see in some H.C. Andersens fairytales).

In the Netherlands we have the same grill thingy but don't call it Raclette but gourmet (gourmetten as verb). We don't put cheese and potatoes neither. Mostly meat, fish, onion, paprika, mushroom - and maybe some batter so the kids can make pancakes in the little pans. With the Berliner, isn't it a thing that there is one filled with mustard instead of jam and the person that has one with mustard will have bad luck in the next year. I am confused by the fact you say newyears day but i think you are talking about 31st? We call it old years day 😂 Guten Rutsch ihr beide Time to sleep, I'll wake up tomorrow morning at 7 make 'oliebollen' - fried dough/batter, like Berliner but more loose and without jam.

I know this will sound crazy and not put the US in a great light but in Detroit back in the day it was a New Years tradition to fire off a gun in the air at midnight. In the 1950’s my grandfather would fire off a shotgun at midnight. Such a dumb and totally unsafe idea but it was something people would do. In fact the Detroit News still puts out warnings not to fire off guns in the air on New Years Eve.

I love your Podcast! I like yours shorts too actually but long form videos make me feel so unbrainrotted and I try not to watch too much of shorts. I'm 16 yo and I'm from Poland and I also moved to Germany so I can relate in some aspects. Btw maybe u could do a little taste test from "Vegane Woche" from Lidl bc actually there are much options so an opinion from someone would help to know what to buy and also it would be entertaining (also to non-German viewers) because there are some really modern things I guess? Of course things like vegan chicken nuggets etc isn't new but Idk if in many countries u have things like vegan camembert or vegan tomato gnochi or even vegan ribs. And I think in some countries vegan things are really overpriced but in Lidl they have Vemondo (theirs Eigenmarke) so its the same price as non-vegan food so it is kinda Germany related theme so it would suit your podcast (or maybe I just love Lidl and vemondo)

The wale from the wax melting could be a prophecy of two things: Either someone in the family turns into something like a wale before a little Jonas, maybe a Pinoccio, who would be more fitting for the "Carpenters" shows up ...or..."Call me Ishmael"... you will get so fixed on some idea in 2025, that there isn't any room left for other things and in the end this project will destroy your whole life... ...or nothing of both and it's just a dumb entertainment gag to kill time through New Year's Eve. 🙂
