New York City MTA LIRR M9 Grand Central Cab Ride.

Take a ride on the New Grand Central Branch. The cab view takes us from the Hell Gate interlocking through to Grand Central Madison's track 204. This includes MAS and Signal speed information as well as infrastructural information along the way. More routes and videos to come enjoy.

When you chop F train Roosevelt Island stop from top to bottom going to come out as street-level mezzanine F train LIRR. same with the ESA meets the 4 5 & 6 trains where it's now below the 4 & 5 trains while 6 train is on top of the LIRR 4 & 5 trains. Looking at the 59th Street Eastside Station you have N R & W trains on top of the 4 & 5 trains since MTA had a diagram of 59th Street IRT East Side line escalator transfers from the 1960s. You do see the tunnel shapes being different 1970s Immersed Tube and 1990s-2020s bored tunnel. If LIRR does obtain Alstom Coradia Dual modes or CAF Civility Dual Modes they need power for Penn Station and 63rd Street tunnels steep gradients otherwise a Diesel locomotive will need to push them through the tunnels both ways

As a side note, the switch configuration would allow in theory a train from Boston via Hell Gate Bridge to run into Grand Central, provided loading gauge restrictions were met.

The engineers should have found a way to bring LIRR trains into GCT proper, despite underpinning difficulties.

wasnt GCT suppsoed to open years ago with M3's through?

Thats correct. The plan was altered on the Queens side. The yard ramp and grade from Midday yards to Plaza interlocking is the main issue the grade is steeper than some of the older plans. The M3 have issues with that 4% grade in that area. Keep in mind the M3 have one HP less than NYCT R160B2's with 25 more feet and a-lot more weight, (640HP) compared that to M7 and M9 (1100HP) Output.

@@kevinwong6588 yep we’re aware of the Hell Gate connect the context was LIRR EMU under its own power and also via ESA. DM30s with a reverse technically could make the trip to GCT we’d also have to talk about signaling compatibility in that conversation.

If you chop down IRT East Side Line and 63rd Street lines from 59-63rd Streets you will find out that the 6 train is on top of the Manhattan Bound 63rd line and then below that are the express tracks 4 & 5 trains Queens and Upper East Side bound tracks followed by LIRR Level.
