I missed the official premiere, but I'm re-running it now. Here is a fun fact about the 2 line. It used to be one of the longest lines running from 241st to New Lots Avenue in Brooklyn. The 3 then ran from 148th street to Brooklynn College, where the 2 train now ends. As a kid (1960s), I rode the entire length on a boring Saturday afternoon when no one was around to hang out with. GOOD TIMES.

I remember those days. In the 70s -80s there was no connection between the 2 and the L, even though they literally crossed each other at the Junius and Livonia st stations in Brooklyn.

Thank you for this. At 1:33:53 I saw the roof of a building down below on the right where my dad had a business back in the 1950s! He would occasionally take me in to work on a Saturday, and as a little kid, I'd stand on the sidewalk and watch the trains go by on the overhead trestle. At the time, some were still the old Lo-V trains with the whiney motors.

@@wtaenyc You know what's really really missing at Gun Hill Road right now is the 8 Thrid Avenue Elevated curving in and out of Gun Hill Road Clearmount Avenue Webster Ave Bronx. It doesn't feel right with out the 8 Thrid Avenue Elevated line anymore. I don't care how many buses they run over there and the bus lanes they have. They know dam well it was a crime to tair down this 8 Thrid Avenue Elevated that really helped out the 2 5 4 6 lines and the bus operators to take some heavy load of the train operators to. They was talking about putting a light rail where the Thrid Avenue Elevated line used to run. I'm not making this up but some one told me about it.

Alots of people are still processing about the old 8 Third Ave Elevated line being torn down and they did not want it to tair down the 8 Thrid Avenue Elevated line but they torn that line down because of the low ridership. What I really feel in my holly spirit Robert mosses could not stand no extra elevated lines to be used today. Robert mosses had foust the TA workers to tair down this Thrid Avenue Elevated line down and they was very very disappointed about taking down the Thrid Avenue Elevated line down and definitely still processing about it non stop 🛑. Look how they are rebuilding the second Ave subway line back up again up to east Harlem 125 street connecting with the 4 5 6 lines and the Metro North railroad. There was a real serious talk about Extended the Q T trains across west side 125 street and the last stop is 137 street connecting to the 1 Broadway line. I have a real spriital feeling that the 8 Thrid Avenue Elevated line is definitely coming back soon I could definitely tell you that now. You see how the Thrid Avenue Clearmount Avenue Webster Ave Bronx is definitely developing again. It should definitely tell you something. God has the vision and some body else has visions.

An interesting fact is that the Flatbush Ave. station for the 2 and 5 trains is the only terminus station in the NYC subway system that does not have a center platform. It only has regular side platforms. The reason is that that station was not intended to be a terminus station but ended up being one due to budget issues. Unfortunately you can’t see the side platforms in this video due to the view from the front of the first car.

Great video. I'm a bus operator but want to become a train operator someday. I used to take the 2/5 trains almost everyday before 2019 so I'm familiar with the curves and signaling. But I've always hated those timers between 86th and 96th, I feel like it slows down express trains too early. I would have them slow down a few hundred feet later, probably around the abandoned 91st street station.

We will first like to thank you for your service to New York City. Every time someone gets on your bus, they are trusting you with their life and just for that reason alone, you deserve respect so thank you; it would be an honor for you to get your dream someday. As for your suggestions, you make some extremely valid points and as we understand the reason for the timers slightly, we imagine that they have their reasoning for having them there. We can only hope they do get the chance to look into them and see how they can speed them up eventually; maybe they’ll see your comment and respond themselves because it’s a great suggestion.

Here is a random thing I wanted to share. My plans for the Eastern Parkway Line 2 3 4 5 - The 2 train and the 4 trains go express, passing stops and stopping at main centers, such as Atlantic Avenue Barclays, etc. - The 3 train and the 5 train go local, stopping at every local stop and also the main centers as described in the 2 and 4 express plan. - More stops, local stops…etc.. - CBTC. Like the Queens Boulevard Line and the Flushing Line. Basically R142’s everywhere, and better service. Yes, that is it. Maybe more, but just ask if you want more stuff like this.

The nostalgic part for me is when the 2 train goes above Westchester Avenue after 3rd Avenue - 149th Street. I remember driving under there with my parents as a kid very often back in like 2010 or 2011. At the same time, I would see buses like the New Flyer D60HF and the Orion VII CNG. I would ride it at Jackson Avenue. I still ride the 2 sometimes around that area, but it feels so nostalgic to just see the 2 train on a sunny day. It really hits hard.

Flatbush Avenue station was not intended to be the terminal of the Nostrand Avenue line. 56 years after the station opened, it gained a sister station when Nishi-Takashimadaira station opened on the Toei Mita Line in Tokyo. Original plans called for the line to be extended to Wakoshi station in Saitama, but the extension was canceled in the late 1970s due to the construction of an extension of the Yurakucho Line there.

We appreciate you for taking the time to give recognition to those that deserve it, the hard working employees of the NYCT collectively. We also appreciate you for sharing your opinion and couldn’t agree more. No one deserves to have to endure working in any type of hazardous condition and this is why we can only continue to spread awareness to this and hope that, on top of people being more aware to place their trash into the receptacles, the system can provide more receptacles while continuing to encourage everyone to use them. It starts with us so by we doing our part collectively to make a change, then and only then would the change happen. This is arguably the biggest and busiest, transit systems in the world so it’s only right that we now try to make it the cleanest, most spectacular and most fun system, in the world. After all, this is New York City.

Cool "Nostalgia" that these modern tech-trains use the same air horns that the classic SMEE trains of the 1960's-70's used. Also interesting that this line is still using jointed rail instead of continuous welded rail.
@wtaenyc

Great observation as it relates to the air horn and that’s good that we still have something of “old” even with the newer model trains. We only wish the rfw was one of the similar features. As it relates to the rail, we can assume that it’s something that will come in the coming days.

@@wtaenyc Sadly, it's doubtful the railfan window, or being able to stand at the front door looking ahead as the train rolls on the MTA will make a comeback. One of the issues for Train Operators, since the 1930's, has been the tiny compartment. Hence, why this section is now "full width". On the plus side it is much more comfortable and less claustrophobic for train operators.
@wtaenyc
@wtaenyc Жыл бұрын
Touché. We have to agree with you being that some of us know exactly what you’re speaking of. We get why the RFW window itself can’t return so we can only wish that maybe one day, they’ll have a camera out front (kinda like this) and have small screens throughout the train, showing the front, that way no matter where you sit, you can still look up and enjoy the ride.

I remember growing up there and as a child my grandmother and I have used the subway quite a bit going from the Bronx to Rockaway, B 45th street and when it was time to go back to the Bronx someone in the family would offer to drive us home,but if the traffic was bad we would be asked to take the subway home from there. But in the 1960,s I have never noticed that there was any help getting to the subway if you were handicapped ( wheelchair, walker, crutches) frankly in those days if you couldn't make it wheater if was going upstairs or downstairs you had to find another way such as a taxicab uber and Lyft was not in existence then. Not even the city bus could accommodate them then. I've been away from New York for 50 years now but,(today)now on the city bus, they by law have to accommodate the handicapped. Especially now I am one of the handicapped. Also I love when the train would make a stop that the street name would appear on the screen I really, truly love it. The people that do the LIRR need to do the same, although from time to time the conductor will say the stop or even the next one and sometimes they don't become when the train makes the stop I'm curious as not only what stop it is, but what town it refers to.

Like we mentioned in a previous comment, the system continues to improve the facilities to accommodate folks like yourself and we send them blessings that they continue improving. Sending you positive blessings and we hope we continue to earn your support.

Thank you for the video but I have a question for you. Has there ever been a time where your train was rerouted or taken out of service while trying to get some footage?

And thank you for your support. To answer your question, absolutely. We’ve had plenty of rerouted trains while recording and will bring them to you after we have finished releasing the regular route videos

My questions are these. How are you able to set the camera outside the front of the train? Does the MTA allow you to do it? Do you have an agreement with the motorman? and the camera is so smooth! Is it a GoPro? Please I would really like to know! Thank you, being a former NY'er born in Brooklyn,I really enjoy these front car experiences! 🙂

Great questions. We are a team that has the necessary resources to make this possible. We took our time to figure out the best way to bring this experience to you, without using a GoPro as the GoPro’s quality was not good enough to bring you the quality that we bring; we tried that at first and it didn’t look good. Luckily, a member of the team was able to try another alternative while operating and here we are. We are honored that you like our content and being a native New Yorker, we are more honored to bring you “back home.”
