For those wondering why trains only run express until Parkchester and switch to the local tracks whereas 6 local trains short-turn at Parkchester when the express is running, Pelham Bay Park doesn’t have the capacity to turn around all trains in time, unlike at Brooklyn Bridge where trains simply go around the City Hall loop. Also, while the right tracks do exist, express trains between Parkchester and the terminus would run almost empty since it skips all stations until the terminus and only those who want to get off at the last station would be in it. So the current service pattern is in place. However, there is the disadvantage of trains having to wait for each other east of Parkchester, since local trains turn around using the express track and express trains switch to the local tracks with both operations using the crossovers and crossing over each other’s paths. An alternative to this bottleneck would be to have local and express trains stay on their respective tracks and continue to Pelham with some local trains terminating at Westchester Sq-E Tremont Ave via the yard lead tracks, since they use flying junctions rather than level junctions.

BTW, there are two sets of yard lead tracks, one leaving the yard heading south and the other heading north. So using the southern yard lead tracks for short-turns wouldn’t be an issue since the northern ones can be used instead and therefore, trains leaving the yard can start at Middletown Rd and end at Pelham and trains bound for the yard can start and terminate at vice versa, despite only serving three stations. Furthermore, the southern yard tracks merge into one upon entering the yard whereas the northern ones are double all the way and like the southern ones, the northern ones use flying junctions as well. This means that the southern tracks can act like a pocket track. I actually wish this service pattern would be in place to eliminate bottlenecks and be able to run trains in and out of the yard at the same time. Looking at the layout on Vanshnookenraggen’s track map will show you what I mean.

Awesome video with the best view! Better this than my usual commute. Just a few more facts! 3:35 - Abandoned Worth St station. Closed in 1962. Strangely, the southbound platform was extended to 10 cars, but the northbound platform was not. 5:13 - You see space of the "5th track" between the express tracks at Spring St. 7:24 - 7:40 - Closed off section of the original northern platform extension. (Accessible behind the double doors) 11:00 - Abandoned 18th Street Station. Closed in 1948.

OK, so this is a complaint, but not too serious. Your previous method of naming the stations upon arrival was much easier to read. Now even on my large TV screen, I can barely make out what the information is. You are picturing a phone with tiny type and a lot of wasted space. Go back to as recently as the previous video and observe how much easier that was to read. Video quality is excellent as usual.

Nice ride on my home subway line! I have been riding the #6 since the 1950s. My home station was St. Lawrence Avenue. Fun to follow along the route with my copy of "Tracks of the New York City Subway", and seeing the infrastructure. Back in the day, rode the Lo-V cars, through all the later iterations of subway cars since then. Nice seeing the City Hall loop at the start!!

110th Street was my home station. I used to walk across 110th street to Madison Ave. If I wasn't riding the 6, I was riding the 2, 3 train on Lenox Ave. Good memories.

Another quality video. I like the way the stops are displayed. Nice addition. Used to be a C/R on the 6 durian the week and the 5 on weekends. As I watch these videos I’m always reminded that I got to work a great job that I always wanted to do since I was a kid riding an R9 (I think) on the D train heading out to Brooklyn. Wouldn’t doing this for real be a great thing I thought back then…yeah i5 was great that’s for sure. These days I don’t live in NY but the memories are there and your excellent videos remind me as well. Many thanks for a quality product!

Thank you for this. Watching this takes me back in time - I would ride in the front of the R 40 Slants and just stand up and watch the whole ride back in the 80's on the West End Line. Back then, the B was running over the West End, until the W replaced it for a short time during the Stillwell Ave station rebuild, and now the D Line. 👍👍

I've watched a lot of these videos and I do like them. One question. While a number of videos are described as express trains, they only seem to spend a little of their run on the express tracks, and mostly seem to be local trains stopping at all stations, despite the fact that there is an express track available. My question is, are there any express routes where the trains actually run on the express tracks from start to finish? Just curious, and I'm in BC Canada so I don't take the New York subway and am not familiar with how it's organised.

The way to put the tracks together. They are where the joints (ends of the track) meet is causing the sound unlike continuous welded tracks which is a long piece of rail with less joints

You should do M train front view to 57th Street. Ik due ti track replacements on the 63rd street line F train are running on the M line between Rockfeller center and Roosevelt Avenue and M trains are nit running between Rockefeller Center and Forest Hills so during this time all M trains end at 57th street

Beautiful video showing us what it’s like “On the 6” (if you know you know). My only complaint is just like everybody else’s, the phone graphic displaying the station names. I think (this may be MY take on it) it may be just a little too much. Personally though, I wouldn’t mind it on a historic fact (like you did with the City Hall station), but the rest… no. But an amazing video nonetheless.
