Winston DuBose. Great American goalkeeper for the Rowdies who was my hero growing up, and later became a teammate.

In my opinion the NASL was way better than the MLS has ever been.

If the USA had gotten the 86 world cup the league would still be around.

Its sad to think that 5 years later the league was done, from 70K plus at a game to not even filling the lower bowl of the stadium. I remember my dad taking me to games as a kid, we'd got and watch the Trans-Atlantic Challenge Cup and other friendly matches against international teams. The Challenge Cup was great because you would get two games for the price of one ticket and it would always be the NASL champs or runners up depending of if the Cosmos won it or not, a team from Europe and a team from South America. The one I remember was Cosmos, Vancouver White Caps, Sao Paulo from Brazil, and I believe Fiorentina from Italy. Another game I remember was the game vs. Hamburg and I remember it was a night game but also remember how much trouble Hamburg had on the astroturf at Giants Stadium from the high bounces the ball took to the passes getting away from them because the field had a crown in it so depending on where the ball was you were either passing it down hill or passing it up hill, it was a great home field advantage.

History is rightfully very kind to Pele in terms of his impact on soccer in the US and in NYC but the truth of the matter is he was never as great a draw in New York as Franz Beckenbauer was.

+Venus Spa Hello VS, I've haven't heard anyone ever say that... I watched these '78 matches "live" on television, and the year before, and the year before that. I never had the honour to attend a Cosmos match in either Yankee stadium or the Meadowlands, but I did attend Pele's Cosmos overseas, pre-Becks, pre-Giorgio, and I don't any other footballer could've sold that many tickets, in that many places...than number 10.

But Pele started it all and was still an ambassador - the rock star coverage continued and other stars came along like Beckenbauer

Does anyone have the full Soccer Bowl 78 match??
@tombeckjorden74986 жыл бұрын
The shoot-out was BS. Minnesota Kicks would have beaten the Cosmos if series was in Minnesota.
