I’m in Michigan and we just went through this, I was stuck at my sisters house for 4 days, my sister no longer has a car and lots of damage to houses. Worse floods we’ve ever had it was horrible. Most New Yorkers don't use trash cans. Most of the drains are covered with garbage. There is no reason for some of these streets to be this flooded. Ive seen drivers dump garbage out of their vehicles at stop lights and by curbs. This all contributes to the clogged drains that help cause the flooding here

Don't drive through water it'll trash your transmission - Automatic transmissions are particularly susceptible to water damage. The clutches in your transmission are hygroscopic - that is, they’ll literally push oil out of the linings to absorb water. I'm original America. This is what I would have done. Pulled out the inflatable kayak, got into my vehicle, park it on high grounds. Take my kayak back home where i have a bugout backpack for such occasions, make sure everything at home is sealed and placed in the attic. All valuable furniture is placed upstairs. I have eye hooks in the ceilings with a pully system and I can raise heavy furniture up off the floor. I have lots of food and water stored in the upstairs hall closet, enough to last a month if not six months. A composting toilet upstairs and a portable shower that can heat it's water. I have everything I might need to survive. If the house floats away, I will grab the bugout bag, get in my kayak, head to my jeep and my jeep has everything packed to survive in the urban jungle or national forest. So why has American IQ's dropped so much in the last 40 years? Yes! I lived many years in New Your and yes there are high grounds like parking garages. Maybe American's need to worry less about what is happening on their social media account and start preparing for disasters. Doesn't anyone watch the news? How many disasters is it going to take for people to wise up?
