New York Dolls- Jet Boy 🧨♟
Thought I would pay tribute to Johnny Thunders on this anniversary of his passing. Johnny had a big influence on me since middle school. When I was having a dark day I could turn to “You Can’t Put Your Arms Around a Memory” and I could find solace in it. His guitar playing was fierce, primal and unleashed. When he had an acoustic, he was sentimental. When he had his Junior, he blazed in all red at Musikladen. He played tales of New York junkheads looking for a kiss and flying oh so high with Eddie Cochran licks being the backbone. He’s deeply missed by those who love rock n’ roll to this day. RIP Jet Boy.

Thank you! A trick I do for this song is I mute the E and B strings in the G with my fingers. That way only the D and G ring open like a double stop. It sounds more like the way JT played it. Hope it helps!

@@NoirL.A. In middle school I obsessed over punk rock and decided to research all about it. Hardcore, post-punk and proto-punk was all interesting to me. So early on I found bands I loved and heard the message they taught me. The message was really that I could achieve anything I want as long as I have myself. So I just went with the music and found the Dolls, MC5 etc. I loved the Dolls because they were raw and had a great T.Rex sensibility about them. The music was very accessible to me as a beginner guitar player as well. As much as I love other genres, the punk thing will never leave me!

@@DevinRyanVitek despite how much propaganda you mite get to be into rap/hip hop/r&b/taylor swift/mylie cyrus etc. you knew good music when you heard it esp. since it was made without having publicity, celeb culture and mtv as a crutch (the music is def. secondary these days). thanx to internet alot of the undeground rock/punk bands are bigger now than when they were together. as when i was young older generations are always underestimating youth it really is ridiculous. fer people like us despite the age gap we know a gourmet lasagna from cotton candy no matter how much money and propaganda they throw at us. where u located? i'm in L.A.

Man that's a nice guitar. I don't like Gibsons all that much and especially the expensive Les Pauls, but man these so-called cheaper models that are or were used by guys like Bill Steer and Johnny Thunders.... I know I need me one of those.

Thank you! I so agree, Juniors and Specials are some of the best Gibson guitars. I went to the Gibson Garage with my dad in Nashville. The best sounding guitars were a black Junior and Olive Special. Cheaper, yes. But in tone? No way. Thunders knew the name of the game. The Dolls made a ginormous impact on me, one I’m grateful for.
