I have a question about NYC Blood Center employees. My husband & I gave blood the other day and the employees told me that they are not considered health care workers who will be vaccinated early. I was shocked because they are taking blood all day long and are exposed to many, many people. They are providing ESSENTIAL blood, plasma and platelets to cancer patients and those who experience blood loss from accidents and operations. I know I would feel better giving blood and being in such proximity to these people who are exposed to so many others if I knew that they were getting vaccinated early.

Apparently there is a number of rules about which people in the hospital staff are allowed to be in the first tier. Food service staff, orderlies, other staff with contact but are not nurses or doctors are not to be on the first tier of people who are employed by hospitals but not the staff to be inoculated first. There are a significant number of such staff people in any given hospital that were not to be given the vaccine
