Locust are fantastic firewood, especially for heat. They are not a long living tree. Usually they are the first to come up and grow fast. Usually those trees are not great firewood but locust is the exception. Probably my favorite wood that is easily available. That box wedge really processes the wood.

Just a suggestion… Drill about a dozen 1” holes 6” deep in that stump. Fill the holes with rock salt and put a layer of dirt on the top of the stump. Locust will sprout outta the stump and the thorns will tear you apart. It also grows out into an extremely large bush in a short time. The salt kills the stump and helps it rot away. A stump grinder just slows down its regrowth, won’t stop it.

Brad, don't forget, if you put the bar in your leg without chaps, you will need sixty stitches a second. It's just a habit that was required for all sawyers cutting on the fireline to put chaps and helmet on before starting the saw. Over my fifty years of cutting, my chaps saved me a handful of times so I'm just looking out for your safety. The most cut part of the body is the left thigh and it happens when you put the saw in your left hand to move something out of your way. And if the chain is not adjusted properly and it keeps moving after you let up on the throttle while switching hands, your chaps will buy you some time and prevent a nasty cut. Logging and tree work is one of the most dangerous professions.

Anything is possible but long as your not hammering on it all day your fairly safe. Iv been cutting since I was a teen and I'm 53 an never once wore a pair of chaps. But I stay hyper vigilant and don't hard all day long every day. No offense just my experiences
@StoptheLie
@StoptheLie Жыл бұрын
@@jimmieburleigh9549 When I worked for the U.S. Forest Service fighting fire around the country, it was mandatory you wore safety equipment. Most tree companies require their employees to wear safety equipment for workers compensation issues etc. Working for yourself you can do whatever floats your boat. Many times in 70's before the fatigue factor was policy, we worked 30 or more hours on initial attack. The times my bar hit my chaps was usually late at night when I was tired and we were cutting in a lot of brush or I'd trip on something my headlamp didn't see. Yea, I was conditioned at an early age to put on safety equipment so it became second nature. It's also good practice to be free of alcohol and drugs when working. I'm usually cutting like there is a fire coming at me and I'm trying to slow down but habits are hard to break. Cutting up tree tops is when shit happens too and even cutting in log piles your tip hits stuff and kickback happens. When I cut I'm not pussyfooting around so I like having some protection. The hillbillies would laugh at me 40 years ago for wearing chaps until they got 30 or 70 stitches. Continue being safe and enjoy working the way you like.
