In a way I find this kind of comforting... I find it's easy to nostalgically look at old films and long to return to a time when the world had a certain vibe. This kind of demonstrates that a big part of that feeling is just an illusion created by the combination of film, lens, filter and frame rate. Somehow it makes me feel more appreciative of the time we live in. That it's not necessarily better or worse than any time since the 1960s really... We're just viewing those times, almost literally, filtered through rose tinted glasses. A bit of George Harrison doesn't hurt either...

love it! super 8 makes anything look so aesthetically pleasing. even in 2017 new york looks kinda vintage through a super 8 camera. really wish I could get my hands on one, but the film seems realllyyy expensive and so does the processing :( i'm already throwing a ton of money away on 35mm every month lol

I know this comment is old but you can get a super 8 for like $60 on Etsy, I just bought a 16mm Kodak, it looks like this but the frames are slower.

But if you take in account that every roll of super 8 film is like 3 minutes and a half, for a price of minimum 30$ per roll, everyone can say that it's pretty expensive, considering that back in the day it would cost much less.

Nice scan. The 1 WTC may have been a giveaway that it's 2017 but boy it looked like the swinging sixties! And to think that the Mad Men 60s look was back in the relatively happier pre-pandemic 2010s and now the 30s/70s look is back in the TikTok crazy 2020s, this wouldn't look out of place among the legit 60s-70s super 8 films! This is one of the best films I have seen on super 8 and one of the best content I've ever seen on KZbin!

I LOVE this video, probably my favourite trip-vlog i have ever seen. It looks so cheerful and i nearly get jealous about this wonderful friendship. Everything looks so joyful, colourful, surreal and yet real at the same time. It's not just the same, it also the music and compostion, the interaction with your friend in between and strangers, what makes this video special. I've been in the US recently for the very first time and HOW MUCH i miss having friends that are just into recording and exploring like me, you can't imagine. This video transports me into a life i might never have.

Awesome job, and since I got interested in Super 8 (which is since a few days) and watched some footage, I have to agree with others, the world does look prettier in Super 8. I also dropped the hammer and decided to purchase a Super 8 camera, it will go well with my 35 mm Nikons and Zorki4 camera. But highest respect for your work, the footage you shot is amazing!!

This is hands down my favorite Super 8 video I've watched on KZbin. I'm currently debating whether or not to but a Canon 310XL or a Canon 514XL. I'd like to know your opinion if you have one. What specific digital scan process did you select on the Gauge Film Lab Website? Also I was wondering what type of settings you used and if you have any tips/techniques for recording on super 8. I subscribed man, great work on the film man!

FILM GEEK Thank you! I really appreciate it! I have both the 310 and the 514. The 514 has some nice extra features, but the motor in mine completely broke down on me. That’s why I shot this with my 310. In my experience you can’t really trust the viewfinder when setting focus so when shooting I just estimate the distance to set focus. Another tip would be to clean the inside of the camera before you load it to keep dust away. Best of luck man!
