I was at this game, but my father got stuck in a monumental traffic jam and we missed the entire pregame ceremonies. This is amazing to see this 38 years later

My favorite player of all times. I live in Pa. I am a Phillies fan but Willie was the guy I tried to play like.

Interesting to see Al Michaels emceeing the ceremony (how about those sunglasses!), he had been the Giants announcer during their down years in the mid-70s, pretty sure Willie was on the Mets by that time. And of course McCarver, on the call for the Mets here, would end up calling 4 World Series alongside Michaels (including the famous earthquake series in San Francisco)

Just want to mention, how did the Giants of Circa 1970 not win a championship with the great players they had?

Agree. It’s pretty crazy…

Beyond the 1962 club, which had Billy Pierce and Jack Sanford, along with Juan Marichal, and even with Gaylord Perry coming up that year, the Giants had very weak starting pitching. They also never had a strong leadoff hitter, and had some 'mediocre-field, no-hit' infielders.
