Let's look at the history of the #NewYorkMets baseball team! I'll walk you through who the #Mets are, from their origins as a proposed team in the Continental League, their early failures leading up to Miracle seasons in winning the World Series in 1969 and 1986, and their resurgence in the late 1990s and recent success! I'll go through their postseason and World Series history, and the best players that have donned the Mets uniform. This is the 10th installment in a series dedicated to providing a history of each #MLB team, so come back often to look for your favorite team's video!

I was just a little kid when the "Amazin' Mets" won the world series in 1969, but I do remember their "Cinderella run" in 1973. Those teams the Mets had during the "Seaver years" sure provided a lot of excitement.

I can imagine that would have been a very fun time to be a Mets fan! They had a lot of great years in those first three decades...it's good to see the current team changing the narrative again for the better!

The irony of the fact that the Mets went so long without a no-hitter is the fact that they traded away seven of them. Small nitpick. The Mets actually participated in the second ever expansion draft, the American League held one the year before for the Angels and the Senators (now Rangers). In August of 1965, while the Mets were away on a road trip, Shea Stadium hosted the first ever Beatles concert in the United States, which was also the first concert held at a major sports arena, birthing the whole concept of massive arena rock concerts.

Thanks for catching that...I had not double checked that expansion draft comment. Will see if I can fix it. Cool non-baseball trivia there about the Beatles. I recalled that they started the sports arena concert concept...but had forgotten it was at Shea!

Lisa's husband, Andy here. Another great video Brutus. Keep 'em coming. The Mets were a very good team when I first started watching baseball over here in the U.K. in the 1980's. But as you say, they were as mad as you get.

Great video, Brent. I vividly remember the broken bat fiasco, and the melee that ensued. I loved watching Yogi Berra work.

You implied that Duke Snider was drafted in the expansion draft. He wasn't on the 1962 Mets. They acquired him before the 1963 season.

Sorry, did not mean to imply that. May have just been how the editing process turned out. Thanks for adding the clarification!

@@brutusonbaseball No.. You were talking about the expansion draft and said the Mets went after players like Gil Hodges, Duke Snider and Richie Ashburn. Then talked about 1962. And you never mentioned fan favorite and the man wbo was born to play for the 1962 Mets, Marvin Eugene Throneberry!

No kidding huh? Imagine if the Phillies had Carlton and Seaver both, they would have been unstoppable! Baseball definitely used to be a good ole boys club

@@brutusonbaseball Of course, if the Phillies had Seaver, they may not have made the Carlton trade, but point well taken. Both of those guys, IMO, have really fallen off the radar when today's fans discuss great pitchers, even though I think both are arguably top 10 all-time, and were certainly thought of that way when they were active.
