Nice to see you boys in New York, another high pressure state. I used to hunt Chenango county, in the southern tier where I own some land, opening day gun used to sound like a war zone, now with lower hunter numbers you only hear a few shots, the silver lining is that soon we may see more mature bucks in New York. The standard New York hunting license comes with 1 Black bear and one buck tag. You can only harvest 1 bear a year regardless which manner of taking. With bow and muzzleloader/Xbow privilege you get a deer(sex depends on WMU) for each of them. As an NY resident my regular season license is $22, then $15 each for Bow and Muzzle/Xbow privilege. $52 gets you 3 white tail and 1 black bear tag. Never a guaranteed harvest, but not bad with our pretty long seasons.

You guys should really consider doing a trip tracking bucks on snow in the big woods. Adirondack mountains, Vermont, NH, or Maine. There are a number of guys who are really well known for this, I’m confident you could find someone to show you the basics of the game. Time to step out of the comfort zone and do something a little different. That’s big woods hunting as we think about it here. Adirondacks in particular .... vast areas, no roads, no motorized vehicles, no other hunters. Good luck and keep it up. Great videos.

NY state has a lot of public land and much of the state is predominantly semi- rural to very rural with hills and mountains. NYC and bordering counties downstate is like a wart you can't get rid of.

You need to check out the Allegany National Forest. Some monsters get shot off it each year. One of the biggest tracts of public land in the Northeast. Pennsylvania is also cheap for out of state hunters.

I hunt many NYS public lands up and down state . This method of hunting is effective, however , this is a one man tactic . You bumped deer. You don’t pace through public land with a bunch of guys that’s a big nogo . Not only will you run into hunters. You will continue bumping and chasing deer. Sit and wait .sit walk sit walk. Or just sneak walk solo.

Bear coincides with deer season in Ny I’m hunting public land in Cattaraugus County and there’s some big bucks in these woods. So you know you can only shoot a bear if it’s by itself in NY so you don’t shoot a sow and cubs
