NEW YORK VLOG - 5 Days in New York with Kids / Travelling from The UK - Summer Itinerary / May 2024

I hope you enjoy this vlog of our New York trip with the kids this May. We wanted to make the most of being in the city in the Summer so we ventured out to Coney Island, went down to Brooklyn (any info on restaurants etc, just ask) and even took the aerial tramway to Roosevelt Island. We used a mix of transport including the subway and NYC ferry (Uber is SO expensive) so any questions you have will help me put together a future guide/itinerary for those of you looking for the best way to plan your first visit.

I honestly think it’s just being a product of 90s TV/movie culture. My parents were big yankophiles when I was a kid too so maybe that? It’s also a walking city so I feel totally in control of my movements.. whereas in LA, say, I’d have to rely on someone else driving because I don’t want to drive abroad.

People ALWAYS ask me about safety .. someone at work asked if I’d ever been mugged.. as if it was a guarantee 😂 I’ve never felt unsafe BUT I think I have a pretty laid back view of my own safety so I might not be the best person to ask on that front

We almost always go in January cause it’s cheap. It’s all about tweaking the dates and dropping on a good deal really.January is cheaper than any other time though

How sweet is milo btw!! So jealous of your trip. We went last year for our honeymoon - only took 4 years to get there in the end due to covid, costs etc. and it was amazing. Absolutely living vicariously through you just now! I’m due a baby on Thursday so not visiting nyc any time soon 😭😂

Roosevelt Island is separate from Manhattan but part of the same county as Manhattan (New York County).

I been to New York few times but never used the subway. Do you feel safe in it? How is it in the evening? Would you go again or do you feel like you have "seen it all"?

I think this was my 13th visit so I would absolutely go again 😂 as for the subway, each ride is a gamble in terms of fellow passengers. There are people on there selling things, people preaching religion but I’ve never felt unsafe

They’re dotted all down the east side but jot the west. If you download the app you can see all the stops and plot your routes

The Harry Potter store is in the Flatiron district, just past the famous Flatiron building (I went twice on my trip last summer 😊)
