Yummy! Absolutely love that you've really gone out of your way to experience London to it's fullest even pie mash and liquor. I recognise that place - glad to see you're back in Tower Hamlets AK. Pie and Mash is an acquired taste but I've always liked it even without the vinegar. I eat a lot of spicy food so something less complex is a nice change actually. That green herb in the liquor is parsley by the way. Appreciate your efforts in showcasing London!

White pepper along with the chilly vinegar which are spread around the tables in Maureen's is the way to go. It's how it's eaten no questions asked. I was eating from the original Maureen's when I was a 3 year old child in a pushchair, I'm now 60 and still less than a quarter of a mile away from it.

I know they have a bangers and mash which is sausage with mashed potatoes but the pie looks very good! Glad you enjoyed it! Then vinegar should balance out the flavors because of the acidity. It should enhance the flavors

Thanks for taking on my recommendation AK! Glad you liked it. Cute kids in the background seem to be happy that you're enjoying an East London staple the proper way just like them with extra chili vinegar oil! I personally even like it with ketchup or HP sauce on top of the liquor to give it a bit more tanginess. Some other good recommendations - Bokit La truck at the Oval Farmer's Market from Fri-Sun before 3 PM. This is french guadeloupe fried dough sandwiches with spicy minced chicken inside. It is absolutely, mind blowingly delicious and similar to Trini rotis that you would get on Liberty Ave in Queens. It is an absolute must have for me whenever I visit London. My second must have is Roti King or Gopal's Corner (same owner). They have locations right at Oxford Circus and across from Victoria station. It is authentic Indian Malaysian food. Get the chicken curry with roti - it is on par with the best curries I've had in South Asia and Malaysia. Just in case you're looking for more good food spots, these 2 are extremely good and also very inexpensive (< 10 quid for these items I mentioned).

Fair play to you for going into the East end and trying pie 'n mash. Props to you for doing the vinegar. That looked like a good plate of hot food as the steam was always rising. I haven't been in the East end since I moved to the US. Did you try their hot salt beef sando? I'm trying to come up with a recipe for it from a place I use to go to in the City of London. It was cold salt beef in a runny white sauce with pickle chips in it.
